WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross updated the blog section of JRsbarbq.com. The following items are among the highlights. To order J.R.’s BBQ products, visit WWEShop.com.
–Ross on Brock Lesnar’s SummerSlam opponent: “Rumor has it that Brock Lesnar will likely face the returning Randy Orton at Summer Slam. Not sure if the rumor is true but if it is I hope Orton is ready for some suplexes on his repaired shoulder that has been problematic for Randy for a good while. Obviously the outcome of the Lesnar-Hunt UFC 200 fight could potentially alter Lesnar’s appearance in Brooklyn in August.”
Powell’s POV: Orton has a history of neck problems and is coming off shoulder surgery, so I’m not crazy about the idea of him going to Suplex City. I’d love to see Brock drop the German suplexes routine and go back to having a more traditional match regardless of whom he faces.
–Ross on Brock Lesnar vs. Mark Hunt at UFC 200: “The over/under for the Lesnar-Hunt UFC 200 fight is a round and a hlf or 7 minutes and thirty seconds. To take the under one must wager $200 to win $100. This fight is likely going to end violently and suddenly no matter who goes down Saturday night on PPV. I can’t wait for Saturday night and UFC’s biggest show ever.”
Powell’s POV: It would be tempting to put down the $200 because most people tend to believe this one will end quickly. Of course, the oddsmakers know what they are doing. While my prediction is Hunt winning due in part to Lesnar’s long layoff, I’d probably feel safest putting a light Vegas bet on Lesnar to win with the goal of making some decent money due to Brock being the underdog.
–Ross on FOX Sports for the MLB Home Run Derby: “Voiced over a litany of ‘wild lines’ for Fox Sports for their coverage of the Homerun Derby that should be a fun presentation. Lots of satire and attempts at comedy by yours truly. Follow me on Twitter @JRsBBQ for more info. It will air soon I’m told on Fox Sports TV.”
Powell’s POV: JR can’t be worse than Chris Berman’s tired “back, back back…” routine on ESPN. It’s fun the first time you hear it, then Berman runs it into the ground by the time the first batter has finished swinging for the fences.
