WWE Smackdown results (4/10): Powell’s live review of Pat McAfee’s “massive surprise,” Drew McIntyre exposing “the real Jacob Fatu,” Royce Keys’ debut

By Jason Powell, ProWrestling.net Editor (@prowrestlingnet)

WWE Smackdown (Episode 1,390)
San Jose, California, at SAP Center
Simulcast live April 10, 2026, on USA Network and internationally on Netflix

[Hour One] Joe Tessitore checked in while a shot aired of the exterior of the host venue. Allegiant Stadium was shown while Tessitore noted that WrestleMania 42 is eight days away… A video package recapped last week’s Pat McAfee angle…

WWE Champion Cody Rhodes was shown walking toward the building. Smackdown General Manager greeted Cody, who asked him where Pat McAfee was. Aldis said McAfee would be there, but he was under strict orders, and Cody was not to put his hands on McAfee under any circumstances. Cody asked who he was taking orders from. Aldis said it was coming from above him, and then said Cody knows what that means.

Jelly Roll showed up and asked where McAfee and Randy Orton were. Aldis asked Jelly Roll to stay out of it. After Aldis left, Jelly Roll told Cody that he was fighting for something bigger. Jelly Roll said Cody was fighting for 20 years of friendship and betrayal. Jelly Roll told him to stay focused…

Rhea Ripley made her entrance. Once in the ring, Ripley said Jade Cargill made things personal by “attacking my Iyo (Sky).” Ripley called out the WWE Women’s Champion so that she could whoop her ass.

Iyo Sky made her entrance and joined Ripley inside the ring. Ripley asked what Sky was doing. Sky said she knew that Ripley was angry, and so was she. She said Ripley would get Jade at WrestleMania, but she wanted to face her tonight. Ripley asked Sky if she was sure this was what she wanted. Sky confirmed she did. Nick Aldis came out and booked Jade vs. Sky as the show’s main event…

Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett checked in from their broadcast table. Bayley and Lyra Valkyria were shown outside the building. A shot aired of Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair inside the building. Tessitore said Bayley would face Bliss after the commercial break… [C]

Powell’s POV: Well, that was a far less newsworthy opening segment than last week. Dave Meltzer of F4wonline.com reported that the working plan is for Cody Rhodes and Jelly Roll vs. Randy Orton and Pat McAfee at WWE Backlash, so that would explain why Jelly Roll is back tonight. If that is the plan, does it give away that Orton is winning at WrestleMania, given that McAfee claimed he would leave WWE forever if Orton loses? Perhaps, though I suppose heel McAfee could simply go back on his word or even do something that causes the babyfaces to demand that he return so they can get their hands on him.

Tessitore hyped Penta vs. El Hijo del Vikingo for the Intercontinental Title on Saturday’s AAA show, then hyped the Smackdown main event… Entrances for the opening match took place while ring announcer Mark Nash delivered the introductions. Nash emphasized that Bayley was in her hometown…

1. Bayley (w/Lyra Valkyria) vs. Alexa Bliss (w/Charlotte Flair). Bayley was in offensive control going into an early break. [C] Bliss jumped from the middle rope and performed a DDT on the way down. Bayley clutched her knee. Bliss set up for Sister Abigail, but Bayley countered with a Bayley To Belly.

After trading pin attempts, Bayley hit a top rope elbow drop for a good near fall. Both wrestlers ended up on the floor. Bayley threw chops at Bliss in front of an annoyed Flair. Bayley tossed Bliss back inside the ring and then strutted to mock Flair, who threw her jacket at Bayley moments later. Bliss pulled a distracted Bayley through the ropes with a rollup that resulted in a three count…

Alexa Bliss defeated Bayley in 10:05.

Powell’s POV: I’m surprised that Bayley lost the match in her hometown. Even if you subscribe to the Vince McMahon philosophy that it’s good for heat, there’s really no heat to be had since Bliss is a fellow babyface.

The broadcast team recapped Sami Zayn beating Carmelo Hayes to retain the Intercontinental Title on last week’s show…

Carmelo Hayes was having his left knee treated while seated on a trainer’s table. Matt Cardona gave Hayes a pep talk about how the wait for a WrestleMania Moment would be worth it based on his own experience.

Trick Williams and Lil Yachty entered the room. Trick dismissed the trainer. Trick told Hayes that all of their history aside, he thought Hayes was going to win last week. Hayes said Trick was part of the reason he lost. Hayes told Trick he had to rehab his knee and told him to get out of his face. Yachty, who wore a Gingerbread Man t-shirt, mocked Hayes by saying he could watch Trick win the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania from the couch.

Hayes said he hopes Trick wins at WrestleMania because he’d be coming to take the title from him on the other side. Yachty pointed and told Hayes where the catering area was. Hayes got upset, but Trick told him he’d take care of it. After Hayes left, Cardona took issue with guests acting like they own the place. Trick said he didn’t have the time for this because he was going to WrestleMania. Yachty cut in and said Trick would whoop on Cardona tonight. Trick wasn’t pleased. Cardona said he would talk to Nick Aldis about the match… [C]

Powell’s POV: So Yachty is running his mouth and putting Trick in bad spots. If Trick is turning babyface, then it would make sense to have him split with Yachty.

A graphic noted that the Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu match would be the second unencumbered match in WrestleMania history…

A video aired with Drew McIntyre speaking from inside a jail cell. McIntyre said Jacob Fatu is a failure as a man and as a father. McIntyre assumed Fatu would have family in attendance with the show being in his hometown of San Jose. He said it must have been nice for them to have Jacob with them the last few years, but they’re probably more familiar with seeing him in the cell.

McIntyre said Fatu will always be a convict. McIntyre said Fatu’s kids need a father. McIntyre said Fatu doesn’t belong in WWE because he’s an animal who would end up right back in jail. McIntrye said Fatu stole his title and his main event of WrestleMania. McIntyre said he would make it right when he’s judge, jury, and executioner at WrestleMania…

Jacob Fatu was shown watching the McIntyre video on a backstage television. Fatu hit the television out of frustration. Cathy Kelley approached Fatu and asked him about the McIntyre video. Fatu spoke about the show being live in San Jose.

Solo Sikoa entered the picture with Tama Tonga, Talla Tonga, Tonga Loa, and JC Mateo. Solo said Fatu wasn’t the only person with family in San Jose. Solo said whenever someone brings up Fatu’s past, it makes their family look bad. Fatu said they weren’t doing this now, but they could run it back. Solo recalled Fatu having his teeth knocked out. He wondered who did it. Sol said it would be a shame if it happened again before adding, “Ain’t that right, Tama?” Tama stepped forward and went face-to-face with Fatu…

Tessitore noted that another wrestler from the San Jose area and then set up a video package…

A video package aired on Royce Keys (f/k/a Powerhouse Hobbs). Keys spoke about his upbringing and his grandmother. He said wrestling helped him get out of a rough area. He said he won’t be defined by where he’s from, but instead where he’s going… Keys was shown walking backstage… [C]

Barrett announced Matt Cardona vs. Trick Williams, and Jacob Fatu vs. Tama Tonga had been added to tonight’s lineup…

Angel and Berto were in the ring. Berto wore the silly scratch temporary tattoo, while Angel did not, so that meant Berto was wrestling. Royce Keys made his entrance to a nice reaction from the crowd…

2. Royce Keys (w/Berto (w/Angel). Keys put Berto down with a clothesline before pulling him up and powerslamming him in the same motion. Keys set up for a move, but Berto bowed out to the floor. Keys followed and was distracted by Angel, which allowed Berto to shove Keys into the ring post casing.

Berto rolled Keys back inside the ring and got a two count. Berto dove from the ropes, but Keys caught him and performed a fallaway slam. Keys followed up with a running powerslam. Angel climbed on the apron and ran toward Keys, who saw him and put him down with a clothesline. Keys put Berto down with a spinebuster for the win…

Royce Keys beat Berto in 2:50.

Powell’s POV: A nice spotlight win for Keys.

Pat McAfee was shown arriving in a truck outside the building. He exited the truck and said, “Let’s change the world a little bit.” Nick Aldis greeted McAfee, who said, “Hello, Governor.” McAfee asked if Aldis told Cody that he couldn’t put his hands on him. Aldis said he did. McAfee tossed his keys to Aldis, who let them hit the ground. McAfee picked him up and put them in Aldis’s jacket pocket.

Jelly Roll confronted McAfee once he entered the building. Jelly Roll asked McAfee is he told Randy Orton to RKO him. McAfee said Jelly Roll shouldn’t have been out there between Cody and Orton. Jelly Roll asked why McAfee was there. McAfee said it was bigger than Jelly Roll could even imagine. McAfee said Jelly Roll is an outsider. Jelly Roll said someone would check McAfee, who said that would be a bad idea with Orton around. Jelly Roll shoved McAfee up against the wall. Aldis returned and tried to calm him down. Jelly Roll said he didn’t work there. McAfee walked away while talking about going to find Orton…

Powell’s POV: I wish both celebrities would go home.

Tessitore narrated highlights of Tony Hirsch Jr. winning a Zuffa Boxing match. Hirsch was shown in the crowd, and Tessitore greeted him…

[Hour Two] Cathy Kelley interviewed Royce Keys about making his Smackdown debut 20 minutes from where he started. Keys spoke excitedly about working in the Bay Area. Solo Sikoa approached Keys and claimed to run Smackdown. Solo told Keys that his door was always open if he needed anything…

Pat McAfee made his entrance to boos. He told the crowd it was crazy to boo him. He said he’s the hero in the story. McAfee took issue with the fans cheering “these spineless bums like CM Punk.” Fans chanted for Punk. McAfee asked if they liked it when Punk called him “Pat MAGAfee.”

McAfee said it was hard for him to get past the fact that Punk wore officially licensed WWE gear. McAfee said Punk has 283 things for sale. McAfee wondered if the merch checks go to the needy families who can’t afford WrestleMania tickets. He speculated that the money from the TKO merch account goes right into the bank account labeled, “I’m sorry, Saudi Arabia.”

McAfee said Punk is a fraud. He said Punk is all talk and no action. He said Punk has the opportunity to game change, but he gets in a room, sits down, and rolls on his stomach like the little bitch that he is. McAfee flipped off some fans in the crowd. McAfee claimed to be everything that Punk claims he is. McAfee agreed with Punk that the WrestleMania ticket prices are high because Punk is in the main event, and the only thing good was Randy Orton.

McAfee said the fans didn’t deserve it, but he decided to help them out. He said he called the truck company that’s sponsoring WrestleMania. McAfee suggested they take 25 percent off WrestleMania tickets for Saturday night for anyone who buys the tickets between now and Monday’s Raw. McAfee told the fans they could thank him.

McAfee said he wouldn’t recommend that anyone spend money on WrestleMania Sunday. He said Orton would save the business by winning his 15th world championship. McAfee heeled on the fans by asking if they’ve ever won a Stanley Cup in San Jose. McAfee started to talk about how Orton would pummel the current champion when he was interrupted.

WWE Champion Cody Rhodes made his entrance and joined McAfee inside the ring. He said he knew he couldn’t touch McAfee. He said they could get McAfee a replica title, and then he could go back to the person who sent him to WWE and say, “Thank you, Daddy.”

Cody brought up the term “play wrestler.” He said he didn’t know what it meant until last week. Cody recalled McAfee talking about the Attitude Era. Cody said the Attitude was 30 years ago, and Orton didn’t debut until 2002. Cody mentioned McAfee labeling the fans as marks and using all the buzzwords. Cody said the word is customers. Cody got fired up and said the fans aren’t customers, they are family.

Cody said McAfee has a gift. He said that for the first time, the entire fan base agrees they want to see Orton, and don’t want to see McAfee. “Go home, Pat,” Cody said before dropping the mic. The fans took Cody’s cue and chanted, “Go home, Pat.” Cody started to leave, but he stopped when McAfee spoke.

McAfee said he’s home and was censored for whatever he called the fans. He said Cody was born into the business, whereas he was born to be in the business. McAfee called Cody a cosplay champion and mocked his hair and fake teeth. McAfee told Cody that if Orton doesn’t walk out of WrestleMania as the WWE Champion, he will never be seen or heard in the business again. The fans cheered and chanted for McAfee to go home.

Cody asked McAfee to take his shades off, then questioned if he was too high to remember he was standing on the table while Yeeting for three years. Cody mocked the idea that McAfee hates the place, then mocked McAfee for leaving because he was tired. Cody said they could get Gunther out there to put McAfee to sleep once and for all.

Cody exited the ring. McAfee asked where Cody was going. He said Cody has always been the elite runaway artist. He asked if Cody was going backstage to kiss Triple H’s ass. He asked if Cody was going to politic. Cody removed his jacket and tie and then headed back to the ring.

Randy Orton appeared on the big screen and got Cody’s attention. Orton said Cody may have forgotten something. The camera pulled back and showed that Jelly Roll was laid out in front of him. Orton said Cody should come get his boy, then told Cody he would bring his boy to him. Orton dragged Jelly Roll onto the stage and then rushed to the back when Cody checked on Jelly Roll.

McAfee snuck up on Cody, who saw him coming. Orton returned and attacked Cody and got him back in the ring. McAfee took a cheap shot at Cody. Jelly Roll got up and climbed onto the apron. McAfee got in Jelly Roll’s face. Jelly Roll grabbed McAfee by the throat, but Orton hit Jelly Roll and knocked him off the apron. Orton and McAfee roughed up Cody. Orton hit Cody with a Draping DDT. McAfee picked up the WWE Championship and handed the belt to Orton, who struck Cody with it. Orton and McAfee left the ring, and McAfee had the title belt over his shoulder… [C]

Powell’s POV: The only way this could be worse is if it turned out that McAfee’s character is in cahoots with Vince McMahon. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is aligned with The Rock, and even that’s not worth it. The company had a good thing going with Cody and Randy. This is all so unnecessary. Punk cut a great anti-establishment promo on Monday, so here comes McAfee on Friday to frame Punk’s character as a corporate sellout. How did that help anything? This is the shits. The WrestleMania Saturday main event has turned into a fantasy camp for McAfee and Jelly Roll. Pathetic.

Backstage, McAfee sang Orton’s praises while they both played to a camera. They got in McAfee’s truck. McAfee rolled the window down and said, “Hey, IWC and wrestling fans, marks if you will, you’re welcome” before driving away…

Highlights aired of CM Punk’s promo from Monday’s Raw… Jacob Fatu made his entrance… [C]

Backstage, Nick Aldis was talking with a referee when The Miz and Kit Wilson showed up. After the referee left, Miz complained about referee Dan Engler costing him and Wilson the WWE Tag Team Titles last week. Aldis said Engler couldn’t help it because he was cursed. Wilson said there should be consequences for referee Dan Engler. Aldis booked Wilson in a match against Dan…hausen…

Tama Tonga made his entrance with the other MFTs…

3. Jacob Fatu vs. Tama Tonga. The MFTs were not in Tama’s corner. Fatu performed a suicide dive that sent Tama over the broadcast table. [C] Tama came back and picked up a couple of near falls. Fatu stuffed Tonga’s Cutthroat attempt and hit the double jump moontsault for the win.

Jacob Fatu beat Tama Tonga in 8:10.

Drew McIntyre ran out while Fatu was on the mic after the match. McIntyre attacked Fatu, who fought back until McIntyre put him down with a Claymore Kick. McIntyre took the fight to the floor and ran Fatu into the ring steps. McIntyre grabbed a chair and struck Fatu with it. McIntyre pulled out handcuffs with a long chain.

McIntyre handcuffed Fatu, who bled from the forehead, and then threw the chain over the ring post. McIntyre kicked Fatu, who fell from the apron, only to have one of his hands come free from the handcuffs. McIntyre got it back on and put the chain over the ring post casing again. McIntyre told Fatu that he’s an antimal. Fatu headbutted him. McIntyre threw another kick at Fatu, and his hand came out of the handcuffs again. Ugh.

McIntyre cuffed him again and rolled him back inside the ring, then hit him with another Claymore Kick. McIntyre used his belt to whip Fatu while Nick Aldis and a group of producers tried to talk him down… [C]

Powell’s POV: McIntyre won the battle over Fatu, but the handcuffs won the war. Um, Fatu has been handcuffed so many times that he knows how to escape them? I’m sure the handcuffs gave both wrestlers fits, but they really didn’t ruin the angle. By the way, a WWE Hall of Fame graphic was shown during the match, and it included the ESPN and YouTube logos, so we finally have confirmation that it will be streamed.

Backstage, R-Truth was at his homemade ESPN booth giving someone instructions on how to access ESPN Unlimited. The camera pulled back and showed Danhausen was the person getting the instructions. Danhausen talked about taking over WrestleMania and then the world. Damian Priest showed up and said Truth figured out that Danhausen wasn’t Asuka. Truth denied ever thinking they were the same person. Priest got flustered. When Priest when he turned back, Danhausen was gone.

There was commotion while Priest and Truth were talking. B-Fab was thrown into a production case. Rhea Ripley entered the picture and said, “One down and one to go”…

U.S. Champion Sami Zayn made his entrance and was booed. “Okay, interesting reaction,” Zayn said. He added that they should nip it in the bud and talk about it.

[Hour Three] Zayn said he feels the wind of change blowing. He said everywhere he goes, people are talking about change, even Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton, who both suggested that he make changes to get ahead. Zayn said he came to the ring, and it sounded like the fans wanted a change as well.

Zayn said he’s always tried to give the fans his best. He said he has tried to give them something real. He said there were still fans booing, and he gets it, but he knows that it still means something to them. There were scattered cheers. Zayn said when he meets crying kids, that’s who he cares about. He said fans he meets who are going through the toughest times in their life are the ones he cares about. He said the fans in California who have had his back since day one are the ones he cares about.

Zayn said he won’t betray himself because he loves those fans. Zayn brought up the booing fans and questioned what he did. He said it was okay because he didn’t care. Zayn said his real fans would have his back. He said he would walk into WrestleMania as a champ and leave WrestleMania as a champ. The lights dimmed as the camera was focused on the WrestleMania sign.

Trick Williams made his entrance with Lil Yachty. Once in the ring, Trick told Yachty that he thought the fans were tired of hearing Zayn talk. Trick said Zayn was always crying, and having to wrestle him in his first WrestleMania match made him want to wash his hands from beating the hell out of him.

Trick said Zayn hates him. He said Zayn couldn’t stand him from the moment he met him. He said Zayn doesn’t think he deserves the chances he’s had because he didn’t spend 20 years getting to this spot. Trick said he’s the anointed one and he would beat Zayn’s as at WrestleMania. Trick said everyone loves him.

Zayn disagreed. Zayn said he would drag Trick into the deep waters at WrestleMania. He added that Trick hadn’t proven anything to him. Zayn said he would find out if Trick could walk the walk or if Trick is just talk. Yachty chimed in and said Trick would be the new champion at WrestleMania. Matt Cardona’s entrance theme played, and he made his entrance while the show went to a picture-in-picture break… [C]

4. Trick Williams (w/Lil Yachty) vs. Matt Cardona. The match started during the break. Cardona had his right wrist wrapped to sell the recent Randy Orton attack. Sami Zayn watched the match from a chair next to the broadcast table. Cardona got some offense, but Trick tripped him up before another break. [C]

Cardona rallied and performed an Unprettier that resulted in a two count. Cardona charged Trick, who launched him overhead into a turnbuckle pad. Trick rallied briefly, but Cardona avoided him, and this time Trick hit a turnbuckle pad. Trick got Cardona on the floor before shoving Zayn. Trick rolled Cardona back inside the ring and followed.

Zayn climbed on the broadcast table and exchanged words with Trick. Yachty tripped Zayn, whose face hit the apron. Zayn came right back with a Helluva Kick on Yachty, who crashed into the barricade. Cardona rolled up a distracted Trick for a two count. Trick hit Cardona with the Trick Shot before pinning him…

Trick Williams beat Matt Cardona.

Powell’s POV: I don’t think it should have taken over ten minutes, but at least the right guy went over. Lil Yachty is a good pest heel sidekick, but I don’t know if that’s what he’s going for since Trick is the babyface in this feud with Sami Zayn. I hope the creative team is a step ahead of me on this one.

A video package recapped the Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi angle from Monday’s Raw…

Danhausen made his entrance. Mark Nash introduced him as being from 1311 Mockingbird Lane. Barrett acted annoyed. Tessitore said Barrett should send Danhauen a thank-you card for everything he’s done for WWE. When Barrett grumbled more, Tessitore said he would send him one of Danahusen’s t-shirts… [C] Kit Wilson made his entrance…

5. Danhausen vs. Kit Wilson (w/The Miz). Danhausen performed a nice suplex into a bridge for an early two count. Barrett acted surprised and then said it was very lucky.

  1. They sure are trying to repair the mistake of bringing McAfee back

  2. Pat McAfee gives me heel David Arquette vibes. I just need him to shout “Shut uuuuuuuuuuup” and stick his tongue out to complete the image.

    • He and Cole had chemistry when he was on commentary. This shit actually makes me want to NOT watch the shows.
      that was some lame-ass promo

  3. Baron Von Erich April 10, 2026 @ 8:52 pm

Welp. I didn’t hate last week but I despised this. Total trainwreck

They have so many wrestlers who would actually benefit from McAfee as a mouthpiece if they wanted him to be some kind of heel manager. Orton does not need him. And in the process they killed the match for me

  4. I gotta hand it to whoever is behind the McAfee garbage; they actually made the Roman Reigns dogfood bit look good by comparison. I agree with Jason, I wish both McAfee and JellyRoll would go home.

  5. wow I usually like the way they use McAfee this has been horseshit.
everyone knows that this is just being forced down from the top and it’s just making things worse.
sometimes you have to admit when something’s not working and just pour the plug early.

  6. The McAfee angle is fucking money! Got some of you fools trippin. Let this shit breath a bit, and watch it play out, you marks!
