The 2017 WWE Royal Rumble will reportedly be held on January 22 in Los Angeles, California at Staples Center.
Powell’s POV: It’s cool that the Rumble will be in Los Angeles. However, I am baffled by WWE’s strange decision to run opposite the NFL’s conference championship games again. WWE was wise enough to run the Rumble on the week between the conference championship and the Super Bowl for many years before they ran against the NFC championship game back in January. If the Rumble date stays the same, it would run opposite one of the two conference championship games again since the Super Bowl will be held on February 5, meaning the NFL’s free Sunday would be January 29. I realize it’s not a big deal for those who don’t care about football, but it’s a baffling business decision given that WWE avoid huge competition by running one week later.
