NXT Takeover: Chicago on-site report: Notes on the live crowd’s reactions to each match, beachballs, and problems with the live screen

Dot Net reader Rick W attended the NXT Takeover: Chicago event on Saturday at Allstate Arena and sent the following report.

This was my very first NXT Takeover event live. It was a great night and here are some in-person items.

-The NXT Tag Title match with Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong vs. Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch was a lot of fun. At first, the crowd did not like Lorcan and Burch, but by end of night they earned some respect, although crowd got mad when Adam Cole was ejected.

-The Velveteen Dream vs. Ricochet match was match of the night. The crowd was super into both men. There were lots of cheers when each man did the other’s moves.

-The NXT Women’s Title match with Shayna Baszler vs. Nikki Cross was good. There was a brief “fix the screen” chant when the screen above the ring went out so we did not see the move on the floor. Also, a beachball appeared, but the crowd booed it then cheered when security took it After that, the crowd got very into Nikki cross

-The NXT Title match with Aleister Black vs. Lars Sullivan was fine. Sullivan is huge in person. Other than a brief “you f—ed up” chant, the crowd seemed to like it.

-The street fight with Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa was brutal. There was another brief “fix the screen” chant as it was not working for the first two minutes of the match. Chicago hated Ciampa with a passion. Also, the crowd did not seem to like the finish. After the match, Candice LeRae and Gargano got a standing ovation..

Overall, a very fun show that I very much enjoyed.
