WWE Smackdown Live Event
Texarkana, Arkansas
Report by Dot Net reader Nicholas Cannella
WWE held a house shows on a Monday night for the Smackdown brand for the first time since 2010. With the new draft era, it only makes sense as this is the first full official house show with the blue crew because the past few weeks they have had split Raw and Smackdown rosters. The original card that was advertised for the last month was a double main event of John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose vs. AJ Styles in a Triple Threat for the WWE World Title, and Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt, along with The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler for the IC Title. This was updated last Thursday to a triple main event of Cena vs. Styles, Ambrose vs. Ziggler for WWE World Title, and Kane vs. Bray (Orton was removed from the show for some reason), and also Miz vs. Apollo Crews for IC Title. Well, this is what actually happened tonight with a few minor changes to the lineup. Also of note, before the show they had the fans vote through Twitter to determine which classic SummerSlam match they wanted to watch, #CenavsLesnar14, HBKvsHHH02, or the winner TakervsAustin98 .
1. The Usos defeated The Vaudevillains. The Usos won with the Uso Splash off the top rope in a good opener.
2. Baron Corbin defeated Heath Slater. Corbin won with the End of Days.
3. American Alpha and The Hype Bros. defeated The Ascension and Breezango. Jason Jordan and Chad Gable hit the Grand Amplitude. A cool eight-man Tag Team Match with lots of action.
4. Kane pinned Erick Rowan. Kane won after a chokeslam. Per the updated card from last week, originally Orton vs. Wyatt, then It was scheduled to be Kane vs. Wyatt, but this changed due to Bray being involved in another match up later in the night.
5. John Cena defeated AJ Styles in the first main event of the night. Cena won with the Attitude Adjustment. A great performance between Cena and Styles, as it has been in each of their matches with lots of back and fourth action and near falls. Both men were really over with the crowd. It was pretty much the same as the SummerSlam match only with Cena coming out on top this time. Post match, John celebrated and posed with fans .
6. Becky Lynch defeated Natalya. Lynch won with the Disarmher finisher.
7. The Miz defeated Apollo Crews to retain the Intercontinental Title. Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the win. Another rematch from Summer Slam that was similar.
8. Dean Ambrose defeated Bray Wyatt and Dolph Ziggler in a Triple Threat Match to retain the WWE Championship in the second main event. Ambrose hit Wyatt with the Dirty Deeds for the victory. It was advertised to be Ambrose vs Ziggler, but they added Wyatt right before the matchup, which was fine. A great final match to end the night and plenty of action with Ziggler almost stealing the show a few times. Bray played his great usual heel role, and champion Ambrose did what he does best as a big fan favorite. Dean celebrated with crowd afterwards.
The Four States Rodeo Fair was about 75 percent full. Despite the few changes it was still great show in a small rodeo venue with bleachers. It was cool to see WWE run a show here because they only come every four or five years. The last time WWE came to Texarkana was in 2012 when Cena defeated Tensai in a good main event. Some people were wondering where Randy Orton was because he was actually still listed on the WWE website, but on the arena website he wasn’t listed anymore as of last week. There was no announcement as to why and he didn’t appear on Raw, which I thought could have been a possibility due to his on going feud with Brock Lesnar. With the card changing up a bit, the card is as always subject to change!
