WWE Raw (Episode 1,550)
Live from Orlando, Florida at Amway Center
Aired February 6, 2023 on USA Network

[Hour One] The Raw opening video kicked off the show… Pyro shot off on the stage… The broadcast team of Kevin Patrick and Corey Graves hyped the steel cage match as the cage was shown hanging above the ring…

Edge’s entrance music played. Beth Phoenix walked out first and then Edge ran out and did his usual sides of the stage plays to the crowd before joining her to pose for his pyro. Edge and Phoenix headed to the ring. Edge shook hands with the broadcast team while Phoenix posed inside the ring. Edge posed for a selfie with a fan at ringside and then shook hands before entering the ring.

A video package recapped Rhea Ripley hitting Phoenix with a Conchairto while the rest of The Judgment Day forced Edge to watch, followed by footage of Edge and Phoenix returning at the Royal Rumble.

Edge said it was so damn good to be back and said he’s the king of the comeback at this point. Edge said Judgment Day is his fault. He said the idea was to elevate talent that he thought truly deserved it. He said it worked in that the members are all better off now than they were a year ago.

Edge spoke about the accomplishments of Finn Balor, Damian Priest, and Rhea Ripley. “Oh, and Dom’s there too,” Edge said of Dominik Mysterio. Edge recalled feeling helpless when Phoenix was hit with the Conchairto. Edge gave Judgment Day a golf clap. “I never lost it,” Edge told fans who said he’s still got it.

Edge said Judgment Day made things worse because he’s a cruel, vindictive, sick bastard who will sink to any level to get his pound of flesh. Phoenix said she would cut to the chase. She started to say that she and Edge were there to finish the war with Judgment Day, but she was interrupted.

Finn Balor, Damian Priest, and Dominik Mysterio came out. Balor said it’s time for Edge and Phoenix to quit. Dom spoke about having done hard time since they were last around. Dom threatened to do something to them that he learned on the inside. He pointed out that his father never made it to the Royal Rumble match.

Priest screwed up and started to talk about entering the Money in the Bank match, but he blamed Edge and Phoenix for making him so flustered and then corrected himself. Dom said Ripley was busy promoting WrestleMania.

Edge told them to shut up and then spoke about his disappointment in what Balor and Priest have become. Edge spoke about taking care of them quicker than Dom dropped his drawers in the clink. Edge said he can’t wait until Rey snaps Dom’s neck and sticks his teeth down his throat.

Phoenix questioned whether Ripley was really on a promotional tour or whether she scared her off. Phoenix said that since Ripley wasn’t at Raw, she was challenging Ripley and Balor to face them in a tag team match at Elimination Chamber. Dom accepted on behalf of Ripley, and then Balor said they may not make it that far.

The Judgment Day trio climbed onto the apron. Edge was outnumbered by Balor and Priest. Angelo Dawkins ran out and helped Edge by clearing Priest from the ring. Edge speared Balor. Dom backed up the entranceway and was greeted by Montez Ford, who tossed him back inside the ring. Phoenix held up Dom, who yelled, “Mami!” before Phoenix gave him the Glam Slam heading into a commercial break… [C]

Powell’s POV: Dom continues to be an absolute blast and produces great heat from live crowds. This was a good opening segment with the production team doing an effective job of recapping the major points of the feud while Edge reminded viewers of his history in starting the Judgment Day faction. The Street Profits getting involved added a little juice to the Dawkins vs. Priest qualifier for the Elimination Chamber match for the U.S. Championship.

1. Angelo Dawkins vs. Damian Priest in a men’s Elimination Chamber qualifying match. The match was joined in progress. Footage aired from during the break of Adam Pearce coming out and ordering that everyone else involved in the opening segment had to go to the back so that they would have a one-on-one match.

Priest put Dawkins down with a Broken Arrow for an early two count. A graphic listed Cody Rhodes as appearing later in the show. Dawkins came back and cleared Priest to the floor and then joined him, but Priest clotheslined him. Priest followed up with a suplex at ringside. Priest ran up the ring steps and kicked Dawkins. [C]

Late in the match, Dawkins went up top and performed a Swanton that resulted in a near fall. Dawkins showed frustration over not getting the pin. Priest blasted Dawkins with a punch and then Dawkins returned the favor. Priest hit a spin kick and then hit the South of Heaven Chokeslam and scored the pin…

Damian Priest defeated Angelo Dawkins in 10:55 of television time to qualify for the men’s Elimination Chamber match.

Powell’s POV: A good match with Dawkins busting out an unexpected Swanton Bomb. I’m not surprised by the outcome, but I was actually hoping that we’d get both members of the Street Profits in the Elimination Chamber match.

Footage aired from earlier in the day of U.S. Champion Austin Theory arriving in a sports car… Patrick hyped a replay of The Bloodline segment that closed Friday’s Smackdown… [C] Graves congratulated Bad Bunny on his latest Grammy win…

Adam Pearce was shown signing Maximum Male Models and Maxxine Dupri to a Raw contract. Chelsea Green patted Pearce on the shoulder and then mentioned that she had Belgian chocolate rather than the Swiss chocolate that she requested. Green threatened to get Pearce fired if he didn’t add her to the Elimination Chamber qualifier…

A video package aired on The Bloodline segment’s from Smackdown… The broadcast team hyped The Usos vs. Braun Strowman and Ricochet for the Smackdown Tag Titles for Friday’s Smackdown… Baron Corbin and JBL made their entrance for Corbin’s match against Dexter Lumis… [C]

An ad for NXT touted Damage CTRL’s appearance and Carmelo Hayes being next in line for NXT Champion Bron Breakker… Dexter Lumix and Johny Gargano made their entrance…

2. Dexter Lumis (w/Johnny Gargano) vs. Baron Corbin (w/JBL). Corbin took a cheap shot at Lumis before the bell and then went on the offensive once the match started. Graves ranted about Lumis slamming a hatchet through JBL’s cowboy hat on their desk last week. Late in the match, Lumis avoided a corner splash and then hit his finisher on Corbin and pinned him clean…

Dexter Lumis defeated Baron Corbin in 3:15.

Powell’s POV: I would say quick and painless, but it looked like Lumis suffered a fat lip at some point during the match. The broadcast team played up Corbin not being able to get out of his own way, so hopefully they are working toward yet another reboot. Corbin’s current character and act with JBL is lousy.

Becky Lynch was interviewed by Byron Saxton on the backstage ring set. Lynch played to the Orlando crowd and noted that her issues with Bayley started in the same city. Lynch recalled meeting Bayley in the weight room at the WWE Performance Center.

Lynch spoke about becoming The Man of the industry and said Bayley didn’t like that so she attacked her with a chair, separated her shoulder, and brought her family into things. Lynch told Bayley not to talk about her family. Lynch said she had one hand she has yet to play, but she’s thinking that tonight might be the night…

The cage was shown hanging over the ring while Patrick hyped Lynch vs. Bayley as the Raw main event. Graves hyped Brock Lesnar appearing after the break while footage was shown of Lesnar being eliminated from the Royal Rumble by Bobby Lashley… [C]

Orlando imagery was shown… Footage aired of Triple H playing Braveheart as part of the build to the last WrestleMania in Los Angeles area…

[Hour Two] Brock Lesnar made his entrance to a big reaction from the live crowd. Lesnar came out in his cowboy attire while also sporting a Megadeth t-shirt. Lesnar smiled and tipped his cap to the crowd. Lesnar slapped some hands on his way to the ring. Graves brought up the Megadeth lyrics of “Peace Sells, but who’s buying?” and said certainly not Lesnar. Nice.

Lesnar entered the ring and asked the crowd if they caught the Royal Rumble. “I did too, I thought it sucked,” Lesnar said. “Or at least I had a sucky experience.” Lesnar said he got his ass thrown over the top rope by Bobby Lashley.

Lesnar apologized for not being on Raw last week while explaining that he had to get his head together. Lesnar said Lashley finally struck a chord and he couldn’t get him out of his head. Lesnar recalled going ice fishing and thinking about Lashley. He said he had a steak dinner and all he could think about was Lashley.

Lesnar said that when he crawled into bed with his wife. “Now, about four or five hours later, all I could think about was Bobby Lahsley,” Lesnar said with a smile. Funny. Lesnar said he came up with a violent resolution. Lesnar said that in his five-dollar denim jacket was a multi-million dollar contract for a Lesnar vs. Lashley match at Elimination Chamber. Lesnar said that if Lashley had balls, he could come out and sign the contract.

Bobby Lashley made his entrance dressed in a suit. Lashley recalled beating Lesnar in their first match. Lashley said Lesnar beat him in the second match, but he left him lying afterward. Lashley also pointed out that he had no problem throwing Lashley over the top rope at the Royal Rumble.

Based on his count, Lashley said things should be done on his terms. Lashley said he was going to let his agent, lawyer, and manager look at the contract. “I’ll take it into consideration,” Lashley said. Lashley asked Lesnar if he was surprised that he’s one up on him. Lashley turned to leave, but Lesnar spun him around and put him down with an F5.

Lesnar placed the contract over Lashley while the crowd chanted “one more time.” Lesnar looked to the crowd, smiled, and obliged by giving Lashley a second F5. Lesnar went to the apron and played to the crowd by holding up his hat…

Powell’s POV: A pretty basic angle. Lashley looked dopey for turning his back on Lesnar, but no major harm was done. Lesnar was over huge with the live crowd.

Candice LeRae was shown standing backstage. Johnny Gargano spoke to her while Dexter Lumis stood by and Nikki Cross was shown watching in the background. Gargano showed LeRae a photo that Lumis had drawn to wish her good luck. The photo had Cross watching Gargano, LeRae, their baby, and their dog from behind. LeRae spotted Cross and called to her, but Cross laughed and then ran away while LeRae acted confused…

Carmella made her entrance for the Elimination Chamber qualifying match… [C]

3. Piper Niven vs. Candice LeRae vs. Michin vs. Carmella in a women’s Elimination Chamber qualifying match. Niven’s entrance was televised coming out of the break, while LeRae and Michin were already in the ring. LeRae had an “LP” (Lanny Poffo) and “Grandpa” armbands on.

Niven performed a running splash onto all three opponents while they were seated in the ring and got a two count on Michin. Niven cleared two opponents from the ring and covered Carmella for a two count. Niven was standing tall heading into a break. [C]

LeRae hit Niven with a missile dropkick and then followed up with a Lionsault, but Michin broke up the pin. Niven came back with a Blackhole Slam on Michin and would have pinned her, but LeRae broke it up. Carmella snuck in and rolled up LeRae for a two count.

Carmella put the boots to LeRae and then moonwalked. Carmella and Niven both performed moves on LeRae in the corner. Carmella superkicked Niven and then covered LeRae for the pin…

Carmella defeated Candice LeRae, Piper Niven, and Michin in 9:45 to qualify for the Elimination Chamber match.

Powell’s POV: As much as I was hoping to see Niven in the match, I can’t complain about Carmella getting some love after her long injury layoff. Good for her.

Backstage, Baron Corbin asked JBL where they were going to eat (while MVP could be seen talking to Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin in the background). JBL told Corbin that his Hall of Fame career took a credibility hit because of him. JBL told Corbin that he doesn’t belong near him. Corbin said he would do better. “You can’t polish a turd,” JBL said. “I tried.” JBL walked away…

“Alpha Academy” Chad Gable and Otis made their entrance… [C] LeRae was walking backstage when Niven shoved her into some production crates and complained about not winning the match. Michin showed up to defend LeRae. Niven told them that she won’t be so forgiving if either one of them stand in her way of winning the Raw Women’s Championship…

4. Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin (w/MVP) vs. “Alpha Academy” Chad Gable and Otis. The tale end of Alexander and Benjamin’s entrance was televised and the broadcast team made a big fuss over MVP being in their corner again. Gable caught Alexander going for a move after hand-springing into the ropes and then suplexed him. The crowd gasped even though it was a safe suplex.

Otis and Benjamin tagged in and worked together for a couple of minutes before both men tagged out. Alexander performed his Neuralyzer on Gable, who ended up at ringside. Alexander performed a suicide dive, but Gable caught him and performed an exploder suplex on the floor. Gable followed up with a top rope headbutt and had the pin, but Benjamin broke it up.

A short time later, Benjamin performed a Samoan Drop on Otis. Alexander avoided a top rope moonsault from Gable, who landed on his feet. Alexander hit Gable with a Lumbar Check and then pinned him…

Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin beat “Alpha Academy” Chad Gable and Otis in 5:00.

Powell’s POV: The right team went over as they try to establish the significance of MVP being in the corner of Alexander and Benjamin. Plus, it looks like Otis will be clowning around with Maximum Male Models soon.

The Miz was interviewed by Cathy Kelley outside Adam Pearce’s office. Miz complained about his suit being ruined by Rick Boogs last week. Boogs emerged from Pearce’s office. Miz wondered how he got an appointment before he did. Pearce came out and heard Miz badmouthing him and claiming he would have won last week had he been dressed for the match. Pearce booked their rematch for next week.

Chelsea Green approached Pearce after Miz and Boogs were out of the picture. She said she better have an opponent or she would call his manager… [C]

Powell’s POV: I misunderstood Green earlier. I watched her segment back. She complained to Pearce that she could beat the women who had qualified for Elimination Chamber, then asked for a match on this show because she has family in attendance and expects a big star presentation.

Graves congratulated Ozzy Osbourne for winning a pair of Grammy Awards… Chelsea Green made her entrance. Patrick and James both complained about her and wondered who her opponent would be. Asuka made her entrance and they both laughed while Green looked intimidated…

5. Asuka vs. Chelsea Green. Green dropkicked Asuka just as the bell rang. Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, and Natalya were at ringside. Carmella walked out during the opening seconds of the match. Green performed a modified Flatliner and then jawed at the women at ringside.

Nikki Cross appeared at ringside. Graves said she crawled out from under the ring. Green jawed at Cross and the other women at ringside while Asuka recovered and then stood behind Green and laughed. Asuka hit Green with a series of strikes and then suplexed her. Asuka ran into a boot from Green, but then caught her in an armbar and got the submission win…

Asuka defeated Chelsea Green in 2:30.

Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair made her entrance and told the women to take a look at one another. She said she saw six top tier women in WWE. She asked who had what it takes to win the Chamber match and then go one-on-one with her. Belair said she was in their position last year. Belair wished them good luck and said that she’ll be waiting for the Chamber winner at WrestleMania…

Cody Rhodes was shown smiling as he walked backstage… [C]

Powell’s POV: The idea was that the women at ringside were scouting Asuka heading into the Elimination Chamber match. I’m really digging the character that Green is playing. I’m surprised they are having her lose matches rather than delaying the gratification of seeing the Karen put in her place, but it is pretty comical. Belair came off well with her brief promo.

Cody Rhodes was introduced by ring announcer Mike Rome. Cody came out dressed in a suit and slapped hands with fans on his way to the ring. He stopped and looked at the WrestleMania sign. Once in the ring, Cody waited for a “Cody” chant to die down.

[Hour Three] “So, what do you guys want to talk about?” Cody asked. He said he used his interview time last week to talk with respect about the man he could face at WrestleMania, Roman Reigns. The fans booed the mention of Reigns. A small “Sami” chant broke out. Cody said the fans read his mind. Cody mentioned that Reigns is defending the title against Zayn.

Cody played up the possibility that he will be challenging Zayn for the title at WrestleMania. Cody said he respects anyone avenging an injustice and respects his friend Sami Zayn. Cody said may the best man win.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Paul Heyman said before walking onto the stage and introducing himself. Heyman stood on the apron and asked for Cody’s permission to enter, which he was given. Heyman said Cody may one day find out that life at the very top in the industry requires an understanding that the only week busier than the week leading into a major event is the week coming out of a major event like the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania.

Heyman said that he and Reigns have a had a lot on their plate and a few things fell through the cracks on the Island of Relevancy. Heyman said one of those things is that he and the Tribal Chief want to congratulate Cody in front of the world for winning the 2023 Royal Rumble match. Heyman shook Cody’s hand and told him that he earned it and is very proud of him.

Cody said his father and his brother had a nickname for Heyman. “If you’ll indulge me, I’m going to call you Mr. Heyman,” Cody said. “It’s because I have an unparalleled respect for you and I think you know why.” Cody said that if they were going to pull back the curtain, they might as well pull it back for everyone.

Cody said that in the year 2000, the words hard times were more than just a promo. He said that his family was broke. He said his father did local car promos and for the money, but so that he could keep the car.

Cody recalled Heyman calling his father and telling him that ECW was in town. Cody recalled Heyman telling Dusty Rhodes that Steve Corino would talk a little smack about him, and if Dusty would agree to appear on ECW, he would pay him and pay him well. Cody said that Heyman kept his word and it gave his father his confidence back. Cody thanked Heyman for that.

Cody said that they don’t talk about it, but before he was in WWE, he was “somewhere else causing a little bit of trouble.” Cody said that from one disrupter in sports to another, Heyman showed him the way. Cody thanked Heyman again. The crowd chanted “Thank you, Paul,” and Cody encouraged it.

Heyman told Cody he was good. He said that Cody got him personally. Heyman took a deep breath and looked to the crowd. Heyman said that if they were going to peel it back, they should go all the way. Heyman said it’s not about him. He said that with all due respect, it’s not about his dad. Heyman said it’s about Cody.

Heyman said this is about everything that Cody has fought for to now main eventing WrestleMania. Heyman said main eventing WrestleMania is a whole different story. He said getting there is a long, long road and that’s Cody’s story. He said the story that Cody needs to finish is whether it’s a dream come true or if he has to suffer the nightmare of coming “just this close.”

Heyman said that Cody isn’t just main eventing WrestleMania, he’s trying to take away from the greatest box office attraction, the greatest champion of all-time, Roman Reigns. Heyman questioned whether Cody would self destruct under the pressure and said no one is ever prepared for that.

Heyman said the WWE Performance Center is right down the road. Heyman said Dusty trained and prepped the biggest stars of this generation. Heyman said Dusty trained and prepped Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, Bayley, Kevin Owens, and the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns.

“You know who your father didn’t train and prep,” Heyman asked. “Your father didn’t train and prep you.” Heyman said that as a father himself, he could counsel Cody that maybe Dusty wanted Cody to make it on his own because that’s how much love he had for him. “Maybe,” Heyman said.

“God, Cody, I can’t convey in words how much I loved your father,” said Heyman. “And I can tell you straight to your face, man, did your father love you. In my last conversation with your Dad, he told me that you, Cody, were his favorite son, but Roman Reigns was the son he always wanted.” Heyman dropped the mic.

Cody darted toward Heyman, who took a step back. Heyman said off-mic that he was just relaying the message. Cody grabbed Heyman’s hand and shook it aggressively. Cody said into the mic that he was just trying to win a championship, but everybody is trying to make it personal. Cody said that’s what Heyman just did. Cody said that Heyman won’t pay for it, his boy Roman Reigns will at WrestleMania “when I take those titles personally.” Cody shoved his mic into Heyman’s chest and then left the ring…

Powell’s POV: An outstanding verbal segment that was absolutely rooted in reality. Heyman’s line about Roman being the son that Dusty always wanted was great, and Cody’s fiery response was perfect. This was excellent television.

A WWE 2K23 video game spot aired. Montez Ford made his entrance for the Elimination Chamber qualifier… [C] A Black History Month video focused on Kofi Kingston…

6. Montez Ford vs. Elias in a men’s Elimination Chamber qualifying match. Elias’s entrance was not televised. U.S. Champion Austin Theory sat in on commentary. Ford caught Elias in an early inside cradle for a two count. A short time later, the action spilled over to ringside where Elias dropped Ford on the ring steps. [C]

Elias got Ford in Electric Chair position and then spun him around and powerbombed him for a two count. Ford battled back and executed a standing moonsault for a two count. Elias rallied and got another near fall of his own. A short time later, Ford performed his dive over the ropes and ring post into a flip dive on Elias on the floor. Ford rolled Elias back inside the ring and hit his top rope frogsplash for the win.

Montez Ford defeated Elias in 10:25 to qualify for the men’s Elimination Chamber match.

After the match, Theory stood up on the ring broadcast table and held up his U.S. Championship belt. Seth Rollins showed up and tripped Theory, who fell to the floor at ringside. Rollins performed a Stomp on Theory and then danced to his entrance theme…

Powell’s POV: The crowd was very quiet when the match started coming off the great verbal segment, but they got them into the match by the time it was over. Ford’s flashy offense at the end really won them over. It will be interesting to see how the Angelo Dawkins character reacts to his partner earning a spot in the Elimination Chamber match after he came up short.

Bayley was shown warming up backstage while Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai stood by. Graves said the cage match was coming up next… [C] The cage lowered around the ring…

The broadcast team hyped the following matches and segments for next week’s Raw: Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar’s contract signing for Elimination Chamber, Asuka, Nikki Cross, and Carmela vs. Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, and Natalya in a six-woman tag match, and Miz TV with Seth Rollins…

Bayley made her entrance along with Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky. Kai used crutches to get to ringside. Bayley stopped and ripped up a “Marry Me Bayley” fan sign. Becky Lynch made her entrance… [C]

Powell’s POV: Keep your chin up, buddy. Technically, Bayley didn’t actually say no.

7. Becky Lynch vs. Bayley (w/Iyo Sky, Dakota Kai) in a steel cage match. Patrick said the match could end by pinfall, submission, or by escaping the cage. Lynch and Bayley ended up fighting while standing on the top rope in a corner of the cage. Bayley shoved Lynch into the cage twice and then down to the mat. Bayley performed a top rope elbow drop for a two count. [C]

Lynch and Bayley were down on the mat when Lynch slammed Bayley’s head into the cage a few times. Lynch climbed the ropes. Bayley joined her on the middle rope, but Lynch shoved her down. Lynch went up top. Bayley got up and ended up performing a Bayley to Belly from the middle rope for a two count.

Bayley climbed to the top of the cage. Lynch followed her and both women ended up seated on top of the cage. Lynch caught Bayley with a version of the Disarmer on top of the cage. Bayley fell to the mat. Iyo Sky climbed up the cage and knocked Lynch back inside the cage. Kai handed a crtuch to Bayley, who jabbed Lynch with it.

Lita’s entrance music played and she made her entrance. Lita ran out and pulled Sky off the side of the cage. Lita pulled Kai’s other crutch away from her and hit Sky with it. Lita put Sky down with a Twist of Fate. Bayley tried to leave through the door, but Lita slammed it on her head. Lynch performed the Manhandle Slam on Bayley and then pinned her.

Becky Lynch defeated Bayley in 15:15 in a steel cage match.

After the match, Lita entered the ring and hugged Lynch. They played to the crowd while a graphic listed Chelsea Green, Damian Priest, and the team of Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin for Raw Talk…

Powell’s POV: Good effort from both women. The live crowd wasn’t the most vocal until late in the match, but they were engaged and popped big for Lita’s surprise appearance. I wonder if they are setting up Lynch, Lita, and perhaps Trish Stratus vs. Damage CTRL? Regardless, it was a fun surprise to see Lita make an unadvertised appearance even if turns out to be just a one-off.

Overall, a loaded show with Brock Lesnar, Edge, Beth Phoenix, and Lita appearing. The Cody and Heyman verbal exchange was special. The Elimination Chamber qualifiers and the announcement of Lashley vs. Lesnar made it a newsworthy show. I will have more to say about Raw in my weekly same night audio review for Dot Net Members (including our Patreon patrons). Let me know what you thought of Raw by grading it below.

  1. You gotta give props to Corbin for sticking with it. He’s been on the main roster for almost 7 years and other than when he was the lone wolf, his presentation has pretty much always been lousy. Safe to say he doesn’t have a big ego.

  2. It’s odd that no matter how good a show is it will still get terrible votes. Someone just hates wwe

  3. I see it with AEW as well it’s like people just love to hate on the big pro wrestling promotions or something.

  4. This was a pretty entertaining Raw tonight very surprisingly as it had a good start with decent matches. I like how they’re building the returns of Carmella and Karen Green lol and making Kana look strong in her match. The steel cage match was great and I love the surprise with Lita coming out. I liked Lashley/Lesnar’s segment and Cody & Paul gives me hope that the Reigns/Cody storyline can be decent going into Mania. Not a bad Raw and Raw is usually boring.

  5. FFS Carmella??!! I am happy for her that she is healthy again, but Niven would have been so much better in the Elimination Chamber.

  6. A peaceful chat. I dig it!
