Simone Garcia Johnson played the role of the first-ever Golden Globe Ambassador at Sunday’s film and television award show. Garcia Johnson is the 16 year-old daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The ambassador role replaced the role of “Miss Golden Globe” for the first time this year. “I’m so happy about the change because it’s more inclusive and it promotes equality,” Garcia Johnson told the New York Times. “I’m really passionate about those things.” Read more about the change at NYTimes.com.
Powell’s POV: The Rock introduced his daughter at the ceremony that aired Sunday night on NBC. The Times noted that there is “fierce competition and campaigning by proud A-list parents for the role.” Meanwhile, I remember my dad once successfully signing us up for the three-legged race at his company picnic. I don’t like to brag, but it was a pretty big deal when we finished in the top three.
