NXT TV Taping
Winter Park, Florida at Full Sail University
Report by Dot Net staffer Zack Zimmerman

Tucker Knight beat Patrick Clark with a Thesz Press in the dark match. This was no good.

Samoa Joe cut a promo backstage saying that he sleighed the demon and tonight marks the true beginning of Joe’s era.

1. Authors of Pain (w/Paul Ellering) squashed an enhancement team. The AOP have a long way to go.

2. Carmella tapped out Tessa Blanchard with her head scissors submission.

3. TM61 over Blake and Murphy. There were hints of tension between Blake and Murphy again. TM61 got the win with a double-overhead press dropped into a swinging side slam.

4. Andrade Almas pinned Tye Dillinger after the CMLL knees in the corner. Once again, the crowd was significantly more into Dillinger, which after seeing the reaction at Takeover made this a very questionable rematch to book.

Finn Balor came out in street clothes for a promo and got an extended “thank you Finn” chant. He recalled seeing Enzo and Cass the first time he ever caught NXT on his TV and he knew he wanted to be a part. He said he became a part of NXT and NXT became part of him. He noted he held the title for 292 days and went to war time and time again. He said now that he stands there without the championship, everyone wants to know what’s next. The crowd chanted “Balor Club” and Finn dropped a quick “too sweet.”

He reiterated the question before the lights cut out and Shinsuke Nakamura made his entrance. The crowd went bonkers and the two shook hands in the ring. Nakamura said that he watched Balor become the icon of NXT from Japan. He said that even though Finn isn’t champion, he’s still the icon. Nakamura said that to become NXT Champion, he’ll have to go through the icon. Balor said that Nakamura answered his question of what’s next, and the two squared off to a big reaction before shaking hands to presumably close the first taping.

5. Ember Moon (f/k/a Athena) beat Mandy Rose (Amanda from Tough Enough). Moon used her diving stunner.

6. Oney Lorcan (f/k/a Biff Busick) over Tye Dillinger. The man with the worst name in the history of NXT won with his running blockbuster. He’ll always be Biff to me.

7. No Way Jose pinned an enhancement guy. Afterwards, Austin Aries came out and confronted him. Apparently, Jose told Aries that he could learn something from watching him, and Aries said that he did. He said he remembered it’s about having fun. They danced and danced and danced before Aries finally turned and starting kicking his ass. Aries left him laying and even though the crowd loves to dance with Jose, there was a loud chant for Aries.

8. Bayley defeated Deonna Purazzo

9. Nia Jax squashed Liv Morgan.

Tye Dillinger came out bickering about losing two matches tonight. He said he’s not going anywhere until Almas comes back out. They worked the body of a match with legitimately no start or finish and it looks like they will splice this into the match from the first show.

10. Shinsuke Nakamura pinned Buddy Murphy.

11. Alexa Bliss beat Carmella. This one got some time and they tried but it didn’t really stand out. Bliss won with the Sparkle Splash.

12. Andrade Almas over Noah Kekoa. Almas has been seriously overexposed to this crowd and they’re actually booing him already. Whoever is responsible for this may end up costing Almas a lot of future success.

13. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa defeated The Hype Bros. Post-match, Gargano and Ciampa cut a promo staking their claim as no. 1 contenders. American Alpha came out and said that if Gargano and Ciampa are top contenders, it’ll only be once American Alpha wins their titles back. The Revival came out and said that they call the shots regarding challengers. Cue William Regal who came out and reminded everyone that he calls the shots. Regal acknowledged that Gargano and Ciampa are in line for a title shot, but before that things need to be settled between American Alpha and The Revival. He announced that “next week,” The Revival will defend the tag titles against American Alpha in a 2/3 falls match.

Just as it looked like things were wrapping up, the Authors of Pain attacked AA. Gargano and Ciampa tried to make the save to no avail. Jordan fired up and managed to suplex one of the big guys, but he was quickly overpowered again and both members of AA were laid out with the lariat/Russian leg sweep combo.

14. NXT Champion Samoa Joe beat Oney Lorcan in a non-title match.

It’s unclear how many episodes they taped and what order they’ll be in, as they conceivably only needed to get two episodes in the can before the next taping, which will be held the day after the first cruiserweight tournament taping.
