Moore’s Lucha Underground Hit List: Team Mysterio vs. Team Mundo for the Trios Championships, Mil Muertes looking reminiscent to Han Solo in carbonite, Cage vs. Chavo

Lucha Underground Hits

Rey Mysterio, Prince Puma, and Dragon Azteca Jr vs. Johnny Mundo, Jack Evans, and PJ Black: A really fun match and a major upgrade over Team Mysterio’s title defense a few weeks ago. The technico did all of their fun spots, but it was cool to see some of the ways that the rudo team blocked the technico spots. Johnny Mundo using his ab strength to block DDTs and huracanrana was unique. The excessive low-blow use was fun too as it helps mask what would be considered a fan favorite moveset from Mundo’s team. The title change falls a bit on the downside in that you would have thought that Lucha Underground would have tried to milk the Rey Mysterio trio a bit. Maybe we get a rematch soon? Maybe Rey is ready to go back to singles matches?

King Cuerno: The scene at the trophy room of King Cuerno was really cool and I like how we are getting regular monologues from him in his house. It was a bit strange for a while with him saying that he’s going to kill people and put them up as trophies when you know that both pro wrestling and main character immunity usually prevents actual killing of people in a pro wrestling show. We got a vegetative Mil Muertes! That counts even though we saw last year that he can wake up from dying. The scene was also cool because it reminded me of Han Solo frozen in carbonite. Now I’m just waiting for Catrina to be Mil’s Leia and save him from his slumber

Lucha Underground Misses

Chavo Guerrero vs. Cage: I don’t want you to assume that I’m putting this in the Miss section out of habit due to Chavo going in the miss section by default. This was actually a well wrestled match by both wrestlers. What made this odd was the amount of offense that Chavo got and how much he dominated Cage from a wrestling standpoint. It wasn’t Shane McMahon vs. Undertaker awkward, but we’ve seen Prince Puma or Johnny Mundo get a lot less offense and still come out great after a match with Brian Cage. Not only did this make Cage look a bit weaker, but it also makes it seem like he has no chance against Matanza next week.

Fenix: Something’s a bit wrong here. Fenix was up there for MVP of Lucha Underground the first half of the season alongside Mil Muertes and even won the Lucha Underground Championship. He has fallen far. First, he served as cannon fodder (as champion) to Matanza in Aztec Warfare, and then he was “killed” easily in his rematch. Now he gets “killed” off-screen by Johnny Mundo. This guy deserves more.
