Larry Hennig died today at age 82. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Hennig was a longtime pro wrestler, the father of Curt “Mr. Perfect” Hennig, and grandfather of WWE wrestler Curtis Axel (Joe Hennig).
Powell’s POV: It was a pleasure to be in the audience for Larry’s appearance on a podcast hosted by Wade Keller and Bruce Mitchell in Waterloo, Iowa during the National Wrestling Hall of Fame weekend this summer. Larry was still quick witted and had the entire room laughing out loud several times. My condolences to the Hennig family for their loss.
I’m sure it’s merely a typo, but Larry Hennnig was Curtis Axel’s grandfather, not his father. Curt Hennig was Curtis Axel’s father.
Damn! I grew up on Larry and especially Curt in the AWA, so definitely a typo. I appreciate you pointing it out so I could correct it.
Of course! I never had the pleasure of seeing Larry Hennig wrestle, and I first heard about him when Moonsoon and Ventura referenced him during a Mr. Perfect match. I jumped on the WWE/WWF bandwagon in 1990.
