Chikara “Judgement Day”
Haverhill, Massachusetts
Report by Dot Net staffer Zack Zimmerman
There appeared to be fewer people at the evening show than the afternoon show, but not by a ton. Probably about 150.
1. Wani submitted Officer Warren Barksdale with a Tazzmission. Both guys seemed very green but it was solid enough.
2. Worker Ant beat an enhancement wrestler. Worker Ant is very much another one of the “plateaued or regressed” guys.
3. Mr. Crummels and Mr. Defarge defeated Hermit Crab and Rock Lobster. This was another match where the participants were visibly inexperienced, but they worked hard and did some fun stuff.
Intermission
4. Mark Angelosetti over Fire Ant. Good match that would’ve been better had the referee not been trying to make himself the center of attention by enforcing rules that don’t even exist. Angelosetti beat the underrated and underutilized Fire Ant with a big spinning torture rack powerbomb.
5. The Big Deal (w/Rick Rolland and Sloan Caprice) over Chuck Taylor™ (Stokley Hathaway) with a Tadpole Splash. This obviously wasn’t a wresting classic, but it was wacky and fun. Stokley doing the karaoke gimmick is a riot.
6. Chikara Grand Champion Hallowicked (w/ UltraMantis) beat Heidi Lovelace to retain the Chikara Grand Championship. Best match of the day, with Heidi playing a good fiery underdog babyface. Hallowicked is always solid, but I would also put him in the “plateaued or regressed” group as well considering how much potential he seemed to have yet never caught on elsewhere. Hallowicked won with a leg-hook DDT which he calls Never Wake Up.
Overall this show was a good bit better than the first, but it was still pretty lame. Some of the most fun I’ve had at wrestling was because of Chikara, but today just wasn’t one of those days. Not sure if this is what modern Chikara is always or if this was an off day for them, but I walked away feeling really unimpressed.
