[Hour One] Highlights from last week’s NXT show aired…
Vic Joseph and Booker T were on commentary. Mike Rome was the ring announcer…
Interim GM Robert Stone was chatting with Shiloh Hill backstage. Hill asked if he could be first in the gauntlet. Before he could answer, Tatum Paxley showed up and asked if Stone saw Blake Monroe, who stole her title belt. Shiloh cut in and said he could help Tatum just like he helped her stop Izzi Dame from leaving the arena a few weeks ago. Tatum and Hill left. Josh Briggs showed up and tried to ask Stone something, but Stone was dragged away by a referee for something more important…
Entrances for the opening match took place…
1. Kendal Grey and Wren Sinclair vs. “Fatal Influence” Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid (w/Jacy Jayne). Wren landed an early armdrag on Henley. Henley came back with an aggressive tackle and boot in the corner. Wren got a two count off a Sunset Flip. Henley rallied with right hands. Wren hit Fallon and Lainey with spin kicks. Henley tagged in Reid and teamed up with Henley for tandem offense on Wren.
A picture-in-picture showed Elio Lafleur and Eli Knight writhing in pain backstage. Vic noted that this was what Robert Stone was dragged away for. Fatal Influence maintainted control heading into break.[c]
Vic said Eli and Elio have been taken in for medical attention. Fatal Influence cut the ring in half on Wren. Wren managed to land a Enzuigiri (that got a lot of air). Lainey ducked another Enzuigiri. Wren hit Lainey with a backdrop after Lainey jawed with Grey. Grey tagged in and cleaned house. Grey hit Henley with a Saito Suplex and DDT for a two count.
Grey caught Henley with a superkick. Henley hit Grey with a assisted Wheelbarrow slam. Reid hit Grey with a tilt a whirl backbreaker. Wren shoved Henley into Reid to break up the pin. Grey reversed Reid with a Stundog Millionaire. Grey hit Reid with a Judas Effect for a nearfall. Grey went right into a Juji Gatame. Reid blocked it and escaped with a two count.
Grey got her way into a Juji Gatame again on Reid. Wren put Henley in a Final Wren-ch. Lainey Reid tapped out.
Kendal Grey and Wren Sinclair defeated Fatal Influence via submission in 9:51.
Kendal Grey took the mic and said she’s taking the title away from Jacy Jayne at Stand and Deliver. Lola Vice walked out holding her AAA Mixed Tag title. Lola said Grey will get a title someday, but at Stand and Deliver Lola Vice will break Jayne’s jaw and become the first Cuban NXT Women’s Champion. Robert Stone walked out and pointed out how Lola Vice and Kendal Grey are two of NXT’s best current crossover athletes. Stone booked Grey vs. Vice for a title shot at Jacy Jayne for next week…
Sol Ruca was shown walking backstage…[c]
John’s Thoughts: Both teams in the opener had a few sloppy moments, but both teams also recovered well and covered up for those moments. A good mix of veterans with Wren and Fallon, and developmental types Grey and Reid, to put together a good match. So far, Stand and Deliver, aside from the main event title picture, is looking like we might have singles title matches. I hope that sticks and we don’t get some kind of wonk finish to next week’s number one contender’s match (It would kinda be lazy booking to see Jacy Jayne do the pro wrestling cliche of thinking interfering would lead to a night off, only to have the authority figure book a Triple Threat).
Vic Joseph hyped up Stand and Deliver ticket sales…
Sol Ruca was in the ring for a promo segment. Sol said she’s been thinking about what to say for a long time, and a part of her didn’t want to say anything. Sol said Zaria isn’t the Zaria she once knew, after what Zaria has been saying on Social Media. She said she thought Zaria was stronger that this. Sol wondered how she lost Zaria, but she didn’t; Zaria just wasn’t wanting to stand next to Sol any more. Sol said she trusted Zaria as more than a tag partner, but as a best friend.
She said she always looked out for Zaria. Sol said that when people would hype Sol, she would always make sure Zaria was in the same picture because they were a team. Sol started crying and said that when Zaria couldn’t get her moment, she decided to take out Sol. Sol said she genuinely believed that she and Zaria were better together. She brought up going after main roster titles. Sol wondered if she was too loyal?
Sol said she wanted Zaria to shine as much as she did. She brought up giving up a spot in a battle royal, vouching to get Zaria a Knockouts Title shot, and allowing Zaria to defend and lose her North American title. Sol said she was always fighting for “us” while Zaria was waiting to make it all about herself. Sol said she sees, hears, and knows who Zaria really is.
Sol said if Zaria thinks she can stand on her own, she needs to prove it at Stand and Deliver. Zaria made her entrance. Zaria said all she wanted was “us”, but Sol wanted solo success more. Zaria said Sol didn’t give her anything. Zaria said she wasn’t considered as Zaria, but as “Sol Ruca’s partner”. Zaria said when she betrayed Sol, she took everything back that Sol took from her. Zaria said Sol wants her at Stand and Deliver, which is fitting because it will end where it all standed.
Zaria said Sol is moping, but now she knows how she felt. Zaria said Sol wasn’t going to share anything. Both women bickered a bit. Zaria talked about how it hurt her when she was knocked off a ladder last year by Sol. Zaria said it hurt her standing close to a person who thought it was a good thing that she would gain something just by standing next to a title holder.
Zaria said Sol doesn’t think Zaria cares, but she does. Zaria said she cares and knows that as long as Sol is standing, she won’t be able to stand tall. Zaria said this isn’t about Sol, but it’s about Zaria choosing herself. Sol said Zaria is calling her the villain. Sol asked how she’s the villain. Sol said Zaria was gaslighting her and treating this like a transactional relationship.
Sol said Zaria is too insecure to stand beside her. Zaria said Sol is all wrong, Sol is not the villain in her story, but rather “The mistake”. Zaria made her exit…
John’s Thoughts: A very interesting and solid melodramatic exchange between Sol and Zaria. Credit to Sol for being able to draw out some tears at will. What was interesting though, is that via the story content and both women’s explainations, Zaria came out of the segment as the justified one. In fact, the last three weeks have had Zaria coming off as the natural babyface of the feud. Again, I would prefer Zaria as the monster heel that doesn’t slip on banana peals; but maybe she’s also fit to be the heroic badass just like her fellow countrywoman Rhea Ripley?
Ethan Page and Ricky Saints were chatting and hyping each other up after last week’s tag win. Josh Briggs was sitting down seething in his corner. Briggs barged out due to Page and Saints talking about titles. Page said he thinks he deserves a title match after picking up the win last week. Joe Hendry walked up and said he’s taking care of Saints first and will take care of Tony D’Angelo at Stand and Deliver if all goes well. Ricky and Ethan then continued their frenemy bickering…
Kelani Jordan made her entrance…[c]
Vic Joseph hyped up Dennis Rodman appearing at WWE’s WrestleMania weekend popup store…
Thea Hail was already in the ring…
2. Kelani Jordan vs. Thea Hail. Hail hit Jordan with a Thesz Press early on. Jordan came back with a takedown and ground and pound. Jordan got a two count off a suplex. Jordan slammed Hail’s head into the corners. Hail reversed Jordan and hit Jordan with Matt Hardy’s Delete face smashes into the buckles. Both women traded float overs.
Hail put Jordan in a Kimura. Jordan escaped with a Spinebuster. Hail went for a Kimura again. Jordan escaped with an STO into the buckle. Jordan hit Hail with an X Factor and One of a Kind for the victory.
Kelani Jordan defeated Thea Hail via pinfall in 2:46.
Jordan attacked Hail after the bell. Jaida Parker ran out for the save. Jordan rolled away to avoid Hip Notic…
John’s Thoughts: I feel a bit bad for Hail coming off her accidental title win. They quickly took the title off her and then just as quickly put her into cannon fodder position. She’s very popular and deserves better (I wouldn’t mind her becoming a grad or doctorate student at Chase University to see if she can save that once popular act?). I do like the post match stuff as it was simple and sets up what should be a good encounter between two of NXT’s most developed wrestlers. Jaida is extremely over with the crowd and Kelani Jordan continues to exceed expectations as a vicious heel.
A Jasper Troy promo aired. Troy talked about Booker T being a father figure to him. He said he had to act when Keanu Carver tried to ruin Booker’s big night last week. Troy hyped how he’s going to take down Jasper Troy and make him regret trying to ruin Booker T’s night…
Shiloh Hill and Tatum Paxley were chatting backstage. Hill talked about how he used his hacking tools to pinpoint Blake Monroe’s location based off her social medias. Tatum said this was weird. Hill said you shouldn’t post your life online because creepy people can track you. Shiloh Hill then left to make his entrance for the gauntlet. Vic Joseph noted that Hill volunteered to be first in the gauntlet…
John’s Thoughts: What’s actually interesting, is that Shiloh Hill (real name Thunder Keck, which I think is a better wrestling name than Shiloh Hill) actually does creepy DarkWeb stuff in real life. If you go to his YouTube page, he’s been doing all this conspiracy theory and DarkWeb stuff since he was in high school, looking for aliens and buying illegal goods online. I like that there’s authenticity in his wrestling character.
An ad aired for WWE’s Kill Tony Tony Hinchcliffe show…[c]
Jackson Drake made his entrance. A match rules graphic aired. A “gauntlet eliminator” match is a mini-Royal Rumble. A 5 person Royal Rumble where you come out in intervals and get eliminated by pinfall and submission (similar to Lucha Underground’s Aztec Warfare match)…
3. Gauntlet Eliminator Match. Shiloh Hill and Jackson Drake started the match. Drake dominated the match early on with methodical offense. Hill rallied back and hit his signature standing flip on Drake. Dion Lennox was the third entrance. Dion used his power to toss around Hill and Drake.[c]
[Hour Two] They actually followed their 3 minute interval rule with Charlie Dempsey being the fourth wrestler in the match. Dempsey came out to new music with his Birthright faction. This happened during the break, and the crowd gave Charlie a “Nepo Baby” chant. Back from break, all four wrestlers formed a sleeper chain with Hill in the back. Dion broke it up with an arm wrench on Dempsey.
Hill Press Slammed Drake on Dion and Dempsey. All three men kicked out of Hill’s simultaneous pin. Dempsey put Hill in a Muta Lock, which Drake broke up. Dion put Hill through the ringside barricade. Dion hit Dempsey and Drake the same time with a German Suplex. Instead of the final entrant coming out, Candace LeRae made her entrance talking about trying to get Johnny Gargano out of his funk. LeRae said he needs to come back to where he made his name.
Candace LeRae introduced Johnny Gargano as the final entrant of the match. Johnny Gargano walked out to his Way entrance theme looking confused as LeRae and the crowd where cheering him on to get in the ring. Drake gave Gargano a boot and Gargano fell back into his comatose state. Dempsey put Dion into a armbar. The crowd started a “Johnny Wrestling” chant to try to get Johnny out of his coma.
Lucien Price and Bronco Nima ran out to attack Dion Lennox. Price hit him with a stomp. Shiloh Hill eliminated Dion Linnox at around 12:35. The show cut to break.[c]
Somehow during the break, Johnny Gargano ended up comatose on the ring barricade. Gargano eventually got to his feet, but was still crestfallen. Meanwhile, the other three wrestlers had submissions on each other. Shiloh Hill knocked Gargano back into his comatose state with a right hand on the apron. The show cut back from break.
Myles Borne was watching the match backstage. Drake hit Charlie and Shiloh with a flip dive at ringside. Drake hit Hill with a 450 for a good nearfall. Drake landed on his feet during Dempsey’s German Suplex. Drake hit Dempsey with a Suicide Dive. Hill reversed Drake into a pop up neckbreaker. Hill eliminated Drake via pinfall in 18:17. Dempsey hit Hill with overhead elbows.
Meanwhile, Johnny Gargano was still in a coma. Hill and Dempsey traded nearfalls. Hill hit Dempsey with a pop up neckbreaker. Hill eliminated Dempsey via pinfall in 19:47. The rest of Birthright attacked and beat down Hill after the match. LeRae finally got Gargano to his feet. Gargano fell back into his coma on top of the beaten up Hill for the victory.
Johnny Gargano won the Gauntlet Eliminator match in 20:27 of total match time.
Myles Borne confronted Johnny Gargano after the match. Gargano broke out of his trance to step up to Borne…
John’s Thoughts: A fun match with a nice twist on the Royal Rumble formula. We’ve seen this format several times over the years in companies, and I remember some of the most entertaining ones that I’ve seen coming from Lucha Underground with which dubbed “Aztec Warfare” there. Wouldn’t mind seeing this match again with any configuration between 5 through 30 wrestlers (depending on how much time you want to take up). It seems like Shiloh Hill’s stock has risen, while Dion Lennox’s has dropped (which makes sense as Hill is managing to naturally get over). Another positive is they didn’t do his stupid tooth gimmick! I’ve been getting a kick out of Johnny Gargano’s comatose gimmick on Smackdown, and it worked well here with him fumbling in and out of a coma throughout the match, only to win the match via his coma. Curious to see how they pull off the Myles Borne match as Johnny Gargano can play both the comedy goofball and Mr. Workrate really well.
Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes confronted Robert Stone about who’s going to replace Elio and Eli in the tag team tournament. Josh Briggs tried to get a word in. A referee showed up and Stone sent everyone away. The referee told Stone that nobody wants to ref the Keanu Carver vs. Jasper Troy due to the damage both men can do. Stone said he’ll think of something. Jaida Parker showed up and asked for a match against Kelani Jordan, which Stone granted…
Niko Vance and Shawn Spears made their entrance…[c]
The “NXT Origins” video from this week’s WWE Raw aired, which focused on Tiffany Stratton…
Sarah Schreiber interviewed Bronco Nima and Lucien Price. Nima talked about how this was revenge for getting jumped 3 on 2 by DarkState, and they just got their lick back on Dion earlier. Bronco said they challenge DarkState to a six person tag next week in New York. They revealed via the monitor, that they called TNA World Champion Mike Santana to come in as their tag partner.
Santana talked about how he was more than happy to answer OTM’s call. He said DarkState felt these hands before, but not like this. He said this is happening at Madison Square Garden. Santana said DarkState better wipe their feet before stepping into Papi’s home…
John’s Thoughts: Thank you NXT! I’ve fantasy booked Mike Santana being a part of OTM for over a year ever since the NXT and TNA relationship started. I might have even fantasy booked it before the crossover? I forget. I’ve been a fan of OTM since they first made TV and thought they had a sense of authenticity when they had a former Crip who legitimately got out tha mud in Scrypts as their mouthpiece. Ever since Scrypts left, they’ve been missing something. I’ve been lobbying for Mike Santana being a part of Out Tha Mud because Santana’s real life story, which we’ve seen first hand in AEW and TNA (via his recovery from addiction), is a success story of someone who truly found their way out of tha mud. When Mike Santana finally finds his way into WWE, I wouldn’t mind Santana being the leader of OTM due to his authenticity of truly getting himself “Out The Mud”.
Los Americanos (Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate) made their entrance. Vic noted that Rayo and Bravo are replacing Eli and Elio after they were attacked…
John’s Thoughts: Are they telegraphing that Josh Briggs was the attacker by having him constantly being shut down?
4. “Los Americanos” Rayo Americano and Bravo Americano vs. “The Culling” Shawn Spears and Niko Vance in a tag title tournament match. Spears tossed around Bravo and did a pose. Bravo gave Spears a rana and did a dance. Rayo and Vance tagged in. Vance did a leapfrog over both Americanos and hit them both with a clothesline. The Americanos traded quick tags and dumped both opponents to ringside. Bravo hit Spears with a Plancha. Vance caught Rayo off a Plancha. Bravo hit Vance with a Suicide Dive to send him into the announce table.[c]
Spears went after Bravo’s mask, but he escaped and tagged in Rayo. Rayo hot Vance with a Moonsault for a nearfall. Vance reversed both opponents and chokeslammed Bravo into the chest of Rayo. Bravo became a big strong boy and body slammed Vance. Bravo then gave Spears a helicopter spin. Vance broke it up. Rayo dragged Bravo away form a diving headbutt. Bravo loaded his mask with a piece of lead.
Spears gave Bravo a superkick. Spears gave Bravo a DVD. Rayo then loaded his mask with lead. Bravo gave Spears a loaded headbutt. Bravo gave Spears and Vance loaded headbutts. Bravo picked up the pinfall on Spears.
Los Americanos defeated The Culling via pinfall in 10:11 to advance to the finals of the Tag Team Title Tournament.
Birthright appeared at the Crow’s Nest to jaw at Los Americanos…
John’s Thoughts: The joke as heels may have run their course, but Los Americanos have been very fun as fan favorites when they show up in NXT and AAA. This is another case of comedy wrestlers causing you to underestimate their in-ring ability. Both men if treated right can be mixed into world title pictures (Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne), but instead they’re getting over as the goof troop, which isn’t the worst thing int he world. Tyler Bate in particular continues to show his versatility even in the clownshoes gimmick. Not sure why they went with re-writing Elio LeFleur into the story after Sean Legacy’s injury, only to do an injury angle on him to nullify that retcon? But I do like that Los Americanos elevates the in-ring quality of the title picture. Los Americanos are the more attractive pick compared to Birthright due to how dull Birthright has been off rip. Can we get William Regal hanging out with them.
Keanu Carver met with Robert Stone backstage. Carver said he’s going to smash Troy’s face next week. Stone said nobody wants to ref the match. Carver said that’s they fault!. Josh Briggs showed up and said he’s willing to ref just so he can get on the Madison Garden show. Stone agreed to let Briggs become ref…
Vic Joseph hyped Ricky Saints vs. Tony D for later…
The show cut to Tatum Paxley walking around into a hotel hallway, looking for Blake Monroe…[c]
The show cut to the cinematic cam of Blake Monroe having a bubble bath with her North American title. She went to the door assuming it was room service. Instead it was Tatum Paxley who pulled Blake by the hair, and saying she’s going to get her title belt back next week. Blake slammed the door closed and started quivering in fear…
Vic and Booker sent the show to Sexyy Red, who hyped up herself hosting Stand and Deliver…
The following matches were announced for next week’s NXT: Jasper Troy vs. Keanu Carver, OTM and Mike Santana vs. DarkState, and Lola Vice vs. Kendal Grey.
Ricky Saints and Ethan Page made their entrance. Saints acted a bit annoyed at Ethan. Ethan continued to be over-the-top in doing Ricky’s signature poses during his entrance theme. Tony D’Angelo made his highly produced vigilante entrance…
5. Tony D’Angelo vs. Ricky Saints (w/Ethan Page). Saints stalled by holding to the ropes to prevent an ankle lock. Tony D then worked on Saints with amateur mat work. Ricky used hands to escape a Belly to Belly at ringside. Tony D sent Ricky back in the ring with a Press Slam. Ricky got the advantage after the distraction from Page. Ricky sent Tony D shoulder first into the steel steps heading into break.[c]
John’s Thoughts: Is it just me, or does Tony D with his hair all over the place look like the result of a Seth Rollins and Sami Zayn fusion dance?
Back from break, Saints was working on Tony D with methodical offense. Vic ran through how NXT alumnus are all over the headline WrestleMania matches, like Stephanie Vaquer defending her championship on the show, or Oba Femi facing the legendary Brock Lesnar. Ricky tried to go for a Revolution DDT off a distraction, but Tony D reversed it into a core powered Suplex. Ricky same back with a series of Shotgun Dropkicks into the corner.
Tony D escaped a Roshambo attempt. Ricky hit Tony D with a Spear for a nearfall. Ricky sent Tony D into the corner with a power Irish Whip. Tony D hulked up and turned Ricky inside out with a clothesline and Belly to Belly. Tony D hit Ricky with a Bobby Lashley style flip spear. Tony D knocked Ethan off the apron. Tony D went for a Uranage on Saints, but Page hit Tony D with a Chop Block for the DQ.
Tony D’Angelo defeated Ricky Saints via apparent DQ in 10:17.
Ethan and Ricky beat down Tony D after the bell. Joe Hendry ran out and dumped Ricky to ringside. Joe hit Ethan with a Fallaway Slam. Joe then hit Tony D with a Standing Ovation. The camera then showed Ethan Page and Ricky Saints holding opposite sides of the NXT Championship. Tony D’Angelo was smirking in the corner while getting up…
Vic Joseph ran through next week’s advertised matches…
Sarah Schreiber interviewed Robert Stone about the NXT Title Match at Stand and Deliver. Stone booked Joe Hendry vs. Tony D’Angelo vs. Ethan Page vs. Ricky Saints for the NXT Championship in a fatal four way. Stone said he’ll host a contract signing for the match at next week’s New York show.

Sexy Red is anything but!
