NXT UK TV
Taped June 12-14 at Download Festival in at Donington Park in Leicestershire, England
Aired July 17, 2019 on WWE Network
Sid Scala opened the show by saying hyping the matches…
Following the awful NXT UK music and video we were back at the Download Festival for the final time… The broadcast team of Vic Joseph and Aiden English checked in before Imperium’s music hit and out came Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner for their match…
1. “Imperium” Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner defeated Saxon Huxley and T-Bone.
Gleed’s Ramblings: The result was never in doubt as Imperium have the rocket strapped to their backs so that took something away from the match, but its always good fun watching the Barthel and Aichner combo. The reason for this match was to make Imperium look strong and considering the size of their opponents that was accomplished.
Travis Banks was being interviewed by Radzi, who said Banks fought valiantly but ultimately lost to Walter and thus wondered where Banks’s head was at? Banks said he was very disappointed as it’s his dream to be champion, however it wasn’t to be yet. He said this is a new beginning for the Kiwi Buzzsaw…
2. Jinny (w/Jazzy Gabert) defeated Xia Brookside. Jinny won after after Jazzy Gabert interfered in the match…
Gleed’s Ramblings: This was a really good match and the best I’ve seen Jinny against anyone not named Toni Storm and certainly in NXT UK. They worked rather stiff but it was effective. I’ve criticised Jinny for looking like she’s just going through a memorised sequence of moves and not executing them in an effective and realistic manner, but this was really good. Jazzy interfering wasn’t a huge surprise and keeps the feud going between the women.
An off camera interviewer asked Imperium about their issues with British Strong Style. Barthel said one by one they are falling. Alexander Wolfe said they have already done what they set out to do and that is destroy British Strong Style and the only one left is Trent Seven. He told him to be careful what he wishes for with his challenge on Walter, who said that he will break Seven’s back and accepted his challenge from last week. They then threw the interviewer and cameraman out of their dressing room…
Kenny Williams said he’d had a busy week. He said not only has he been taking mud out of his mouth but he’s also been talking to Johnny Saint about a match between himself and Noam Dar. Williams said he’d also been talking to the trainers and told them to be on standby for when he breaks the wing that Dar desperately wants him under…
Footage aired of what happened after the show last week with Joe Coffey and Dave Mastiff jawing at each other… Gallus were in their dressing room. An off-camera interviewer asked what their thoughts are with Dave Mastiff standing tall at the end of the show. Joe Coffey claimed that they tamed the wild animals in The Hunt. He then got angry that Mastiff was still standing. He said he will put Mastiff on a wee leash like a good little boy and he wants him one on one…
Toni Storm came out for a promo to a good reaction. The crowd chanted for her. Storm said for the longest time she thought Kay Lee Ray was one of her best friends. She said when she moved to the UK Ray took her under wing. She asked what happened to Kay Lee. Storm said Lee used to be the first person to help someone, but now she’s the first person to attack someone to get her attention. Storm said she doesn’t need to do that as she’s ready for her and she’s sick of the mind games.
Kay Lee Ray came out and said, “Awwww, the champ wants to hurry things along” and is sick of her mind games. Ray said everyone knows she has her championship opportunity. She asked Storm about having the match on the spot, then said that’s not happening, and the crowd of course booed and chanted you suck. She said she’s not taking her shot tonight or next week, she will wait until the biggest show they’ve ever had in NXT UK Takeover: Cardiff. She said between then and now she will make Toni’s life a living hell…
Sid Scala was asked if this means that we won’t be seeing either Toni Storm and Kay Lee Ray between now and Cardiff. Sid said no, and in fact next week we will have the first NXT UK six-woman tag match with Kay Lee and Toni on opposite sides…
A graphic to listed Kenny Williams vs. Noam Dar, and Walter vs. Trent Seven next week.
Gleed’s Ramblings: They are really stacking the card for the Plymouth shows which are being taped this weekend. If you are attending the tapings and want to pass on results, please forward them to Jason Powell via email at dotnetjason@gmail.com.
3. Mark Andrews defeated Kassius Ohno. Before the match Vic Joseph and Aiden English before the match agreed that Andrews’s music is the best in NXT UK, therefore as a result they are my favourite commentary combo in wrestling.
Gleed’s Ramblings: This was exactly as I thought it would be with Kassius being on an extended amount of offence for a large portion of the match using old school wrestling and tactics before Andrews came back by using his speed and “new school” style of wrestling. I personally loved this, but I’m not sure if it would appeal to everyone. One could argue this was symbolic of new school being better than old school, but that’s up for interpretation.
Overall, it was another good episode of NXT UK that flew by. I really enjoyed the main event, but my favourite match would have to go to Jinny vs. Xia Brookside, as it was a pleasant surprise to see such a snug and crisp match from Jinny. The majority of the show was dedicated to setting up the TV feuds heading into the Plymouth taping this weekend, but we had the first match announced for NXT UK: Cardiff between Toni Storm and Kay Lee Ray and they did a nice job on selling me on it.
