NXT UK Hits
Pete Dunne vs. Jordan Devlin: This was the best match of the two shows on the night, and another great showcase to show how good Dunne is. Devlin certainly matched Dunne and both men came out of this match looking better than they went in. Some might argue that Spanish Fly move was overused in this match, but it did get a great reaction from the crowd when performed firstly on the outside and then from the top rope. A match worth going out of your way to see.
Xia Brookside and Millie McKenzie vs. Charlie Morgan and Killer Kelly: All four women were given an opportunity to impress in this match and they all delivered. This wasn’t a classic by any means, but everyone had their moment in the match and performed well. If you weren’t excited about the NXT UK’s women division before this match, you would be afterwards.
Saxon Huxley vs. Joseph Conners: A very minor Hit and that was for the match being laid to resemble a real world situation. After Conners surprised attacked Huxley a couple of shows ago, it was logical that this wouldn’t be a wrestling masterclass but rather a slugfest, which is what this was.
NXT UK Misses
Eddie Dennis vs. Ashton Smith: The announcers tried to frame this as a match following a war of words over the last couple of weeks, but this felt insulting to anyone who’d been watching the show. The match was alright, the best outing for Eddie Dennis with this new character and style, but I still don’t understand what they are going for with Dennis. Do they want him to be the calm, intelligent, cerebral character that he portrays in his video packages? Or do they want him to be a deranged, Broken Matt Hardy-like character in the ring while wrestling a big man Kevin “Diesel” Nash style? It doesn’t help that I recently re-watched Dennis’s TLC match against Mark Andrews at Progress Chapter 76, which was a tremendous match built around a tremendous story. I highly recommend you watch that match get a feel for Eddie Dennis rather than this mishmash of a character on NXT UK.
