Rey Mysterio spoke with AJ Martelli of the Poughkeepsie Journal and spoke of how he began his pro wrestling training at a very young age. “My training began south of the border, in Tijuana. Mexico,” Mysterio said. My uncle [Rey Mysterio Sr.] was a professional wrestler, and he trained me along with several of the greats from Mexico. There’s a rich history of Mexican lucha libre. By the age of 8, I was wrestling. A normal kid would be playing basketball or baseball, but I was into the world of professional wrestling. I got my big break at the age of 13 and started work for the first major promotion, AAA.”
Mysterio also provided an update on his son Dominic’s training to become a pro wrestler. “I’ve been doing this almost three decades,” Mysterio said. “The only part that’s left for me to prepare my son, Dominic. He started training last year and he’s ready to take off to Lance Storm’s training school in Canada.” Read the full interview at PoughkeepsieJournal.com.
Powell’s POV: Little Dominic from the Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero storyline from 2005 isn’t so little anymore. He’s in his early 20s and is notably taller than his father. It will be fun to follow his career after seeing him as a kid in that storyline. The Mysterio interview was done to promote Saturday’s Wrestling Under The Stars, an annual event run by Northeast Wrestling. The show will be held at Dutchess Stadium in New York and includes the Young Bucks, Marty Scurll, The Kingdom, Flip Gordon, Billy Gunn, Matt Riddle, Christian, Jimmy Hart, Renee Young, Corey Graves, and more.
