NXT Great American Bash Countdown Show Notes
Megan Morant and Sam Roberts were the hosts and checked in from the WWE studio set. The hosts started the show by running through the advertised card. They then sent the show to the Ricky Saints vs. Ethan Page hype package. Sam and Megan then gave their thoughts on the feud…
Blake Howard interviewed Jasper Troy and asked him about his background. Troy said he didn’t like talking about his past much before. He talked about how he likes contact and how much he enjoyed beating down football players into the dirt when he played for Kansas. Howard asked him how he felt winning LFG. Troy said he loved that he got to be mentored by Booker T, Undertaker, and Bully Ray. He said Booker told him that he’d have to step over people to keep moving in the business.
Howard noted that Troy immediately challenged Oba Femi when he arrived in NXT and that caught people’s eyes. Howard asked him how he feels about Je’von Evans. Troy said Evans cracks jokes and lived a structured life. Troy talked about how he’s going to destroy Evans. Howard asked Troy for his gameplan against a high flyer. Troy said he doesn’t need a gameplan. He said he’s going to swat Evans out of the air and show everyone that the future belongs to Jasper Troy. Troy’s last words were “line your heroes up, and I’ll take them all down”. He closed the interview by warning Evans. The panel then gave their thoughts on the Troy vs. Evans match…
The show cut to footage of Josh Briggs psyching up Yoshiki Inamura after they left Oba Femi lying. Briggs asked why Inamura looks nervous. Inamura said he didn’t jump Oba to get an advantage, but to protect Briggs. Inamura said he wants to fight fair and with honor. Briggs said Inamura shouldn’t think about honor and they should do everything they can to make Japan a hero in Japan. Inamura said “not like that”. Morant and Roberts then gave their thoughts on the NXT Championship match…
Kelly Kincaid interviewed Izzi Dame and Tatum Paxley. Kelly asked them how their friendship came about. Izzi said she saw herself in Tatum and how she was without friends last year until she met Shawn Spears and Niko Vance. Tatum said she’s happy someone looked out for her and not the other way around. She said all her other friends left her, but this is now the closest thing she’s had to a family.
Kelly asked Tatum why Sol Ruca and Zaria don’t approve of this new friendship. Tatum said that maybe because Izzi did bad things, but bad things should be fogiven. Izzi pointed out how Sol Ruca and Zaria acted like her friends, but they never let her do friend things with them. Kelly asked Izzi about her thoughts on facing Sol Ruca. Izzi said Sol may fly, but she can’t beat someone who is cold, cruel, and cunning. Tatum said she knows her new best friend will be the new North American Champion. Kelly wished Izzi luck to close the interview. Morant and Roberts then gave their thoughts on the interview…
The hosts recapped the Trick Williams, Joe Hendry, and Mike Santana feud over the TNA title. After the commercial break, The panel recapped the Je’von Evans vs. Jasper Troy feud. Jordynne Grace and Blake Monroe were shown arriving at the arena. They then showed Fatal Influence arriving to the arena. The hype package aired to hype the Fatal Influence vs. Grace and Monroe match…
Kelly Kincaid was supposed to interview the Fatal Influence trio, but Jacy Jayne said to just interview her and they’ll show up later. Kincaid asked Jayne about how she feels facing Grace and Monroe in a tag match. Jayne talked about Grace and Monroe being singles wrestlers while she’s a part of a team. Jayne said she’s above both of them. Kincaid then brought up how Fatal Influence made their in ring debut at last year’s GaB.
Kincaid pointed out how in recent months it seems like they had trust issues. Jayne said they are on the same page and they are here to influence the division. Jayne said the proof of their success is her and Henley winning championships during their run. Kincaid talked about Jayne being a long time member of NXT. Kincaid asked her how her headspace is now. Jayne said the fans never believed in her and she tried to gain their trust when she joined Chase U, but that was for naught.
Kincaid then brought up Jayne being the top women’s champion in NXT heading into Evolution. Jayne said no one believed in her, so she believed in herself. She said people kept calling her the most beatable champion, but she beat the woman nobody can beat in Stephanie Vaquer and then Lainey Reid in her debut. Henley and Nyx walked in wondering why the interview started without them. Jayne abruptly ended the interviewed and walked away. Roberts and Morant gave their thoughts on the interview and feud…
The hosts closed the show by running through the advertised card…
John’s Thoughts: Eh, these are a waste of time. They’re going to replay the hype packages during the main show anyway. The interviews were fine, but they don’t really help sell the PLE. These things got worse too, when they expanded the pre-show to an hour just to put in long commercial segments.
NXT Great American Bash Main Show review
Separate shots of Oba Femi, Josh Briggs and Yoshiki Inamura, Ricky Saints, Trick Williams, Fatal Influence, and Blake Monroe and Jordynne Grace were shown as they were all arriving at the arena…
A Great American Bash intro video aired which credited Dusty Rhodes with creating the event. They also showed clips of past GaBs from WCW…
Vic Joseph, Corey Graves, and Booker T were on commentary. Mike Rome was the ring announcer…
Entrances for the opening match took place…
1. Je’von Evans vs. Jasper Troy. Troy and Evans started the match with a long staredown. Troy then used a claw grip to manhandle Evans around the ring. Evans had his rib taped. Evans then stepped up to Troy and slapped him in the face. Evans rallied with right hands, but Troy stopped that with a simple knee to the gut. Evans jumped over the ringpost when Troy threw him into it. Troy caught Evans off a Slingshot. Troy was staggered after he ate a dropkick.
Troy blocked a huracanrana. Evans reversed a Power Bomb into a Sleeper. Troy broke the hold by stumbling to ringside. Troy gave Evans a Spinebuster on the apron. Evans gave Troy a Punt Kick to the jaw. Evans hit Troy with a kick. Troy came back with a simple but effective shove to dump Evans to ringside. Troy stepped on Evans out of disrespect. Troy tossed Evans back in the ring. Troy hit Evans with a running Splash.
Troy followed with another splash when Evans was on all fours. Troy grinded his wrist coverings over Je’von’s face. Troy tossed Evans into the turnbuckle. Evans gave Troy a few slaps to the chest, but Troy body slammed him. Evans dodged a elbow drop. Evans rallied with right hands again. A “that boy bouncy” chant ensued. Troy used his weight to block a German Suplex. Troy caught Evans out of the air when he went for his signature Springboard RKO.
Troy carried Evans around while slamming his ribs against things. Troy added more disrespect by grinding on Evans’s head with his boot. A “Jasper sucks” chant ensued. Troy put Evans in a grounded abdominal stretch. Evans tried to rally again, but Troy stopped it with a shove. Evans staggered Troy with a kick. Evans went for a springboard, but his ribs gave out on him. Troy walked over Evan’s injured ribs.
Evans rolled to dodge a Vader Bomb. Evans managed to get Troy to a knee with a kick. Evans parried a shove and managed to back Troy into the corner with punches. Evans hit Troy with a superkick and big boot. Troy used his weight and elbow to block another German attempt. Evans managed to get Troy off his feet with a slingshot crossbody. Troy blocked the RKO again. Evans came back with his flip overhead kick for a good nearfall. Troy dragged Evans off the top rope. Evans dumped Tory to ringside and hit him with a top rope clearing dive.
Evans slipped off a springboard, but then fired up the crowd by finally hitting Troy with the German Suplex. Evans hit Troy with a Frog Splash for a good nearfall. A “this is awesome” chant ensued. Troy reversed the RKO into a chokeslam. Troy hit Evans with a running front hip attack. Evans reversed a Black Hole Slam into a rollup for the victory.
Je’von Evans defeated Jasper Troy via pinfall in 13:37.
John’s Thoughts: An awesome story of David and Goliath here. Credit to both men playing their role well. Troy was good as the bully here. He doesn’t take many bumps, but that works well for his big man persona, to the point where the crowd pops for the babyface finally sweeping the big man off his feet. Evans was amazing as usual with his offense constantly being shut down, to the point where the crowd popped huge when he finally hit them, like the German Suplex they were teasing throughout the night. Troy is protected by the plucky win by Evans, but at the same time, he’s not protected due to him losing more in NXT than winning. I do wonder if they are testing him for now before repackaging him? They might have to do that soon because this guy never wins and you don’t want to have that be a hole too deep to climb out of.
A Instagram video aired where Stacks talked about his list of people he wants to wrestle in Heritage Cup matches. He said he wanted to challenge people like Lexis King, Santino Marella, Jersey Shore’s the Situation, and Logan Paul’s dad. Stacks then entered the Performance Center and claimed that A Train Matt Bloom accepted the challenge. Bloom said he didn’t. When Stacks turned around, his trophy was gone…
Vic Joseph plugged WWE’s podcast lineup…
Sarah Schreiber interviewed Sol Ruca and Zaria about their upcoming matches at GaB and Evolution. Sol talked about riding on a high after her Smackdown where she got to snatch two Sol’s. The screen scrambled with the DarkState distortions for a bit. The show cut back with Zaria hyping up how they’re going after the Tag Team titles at Evolution…
The Culling made their entrance, wearing mostly red. Spears and Vance headed to the back. Sol Ruca and Zaria then made their entrance. Mike Rome handled the formal in ring championship match introductions…
2. Sol Ruca (w/Zaria) vs. Izzi Dame (w/Tatum Paxley) for the NXT Women’s North American Championship. Paxley slapped Zaria’s face and ran away. The referee kept Zaria and Paxley apart. Izzi hit a distracted Sol with a Sky High. The referee was distracted with Tatum and Zaria, so he was late to get the count. Izzi slammed Sol and did a kip up. So recovered and hit Zaria with a Missile Dropkick. Sol hit Dame with a huracanrana at ringside.
Sol hit Izzi with a running knee lift for a nearfall. Izzi hit Sol with Snake Eyes on the top rope and followed up with a Fireman Carry Gutbuster. Izzi hit Sol with Clinch Knees to the gut. Izzi hit Sol with a running knee for a two count. Izzi worked on Sol with methodical offense. Sol escaped a submission and rallied with back elbows. Izzi came right back with a Mafia Kick for a good nearfall. A “Lets go Ruca” chant ensued. Sol rallied with axe handles and a Sling Blade.
Izzi rolled up Sol for a nearfall. Sol hit Izzi with a double boot Backstabber. Sol hit Izzi with a crazy looking springboard Triangle Moonsault which turned into a over head kick. Sol hit Izzi with a slingshot flip into a clothesline. Izzi blocked a super X Factor attempt and hit Sol with Magnum for a nearfall. Sol and Izzi traded Yay Boo strikes. Sol caught izzi with a Gamengiri. Sol almost slipped by did a tightrope into a Super X Factor.
Izzi gave Sol a dropkick to the back. Izzi reversed a slingshot into a Chokeslam. It looked like Sol hit Izzi with Sliced Bread, but apparently Izzi hit some sort of move for a nearfall. Sol caught Izzi out of the air with a Superkick. Izzi smacked Sol in the back on the top rope. Sol flipped out of a Superplex and hit Izzi with a Spear. Tatum put Izzi’s foot on the bottom rope for the break. Zaria gave Tatum a Spear at ringside. When Izzi re-entered the ring, Sol hit her with a Sol Snatcher in the middle of the ring for the victory.
Sol Ruca defeated Izzi Dame via pinfall in 11:43 to retain the NXT Women’s North American Championship.
John’s Thoughts: The match was pretty much okay, but it looked like Izzi wasn’t prepared to assist on Sol Ruca’s innovative offense. Most professionals or insane athletes that Sol faces are ready for them, but Izzi’s more of a developmental wrestler so I don’t blame her 100%. It’s also probably up to Sol too to work to her opponents limitations and not include so many of her crazy spots. The Culling lose yet another one. It might be time to move on from the latest failed cult in pro wrestling. Izzi does have some potential though as she has been doing good character work with her recent push.
A Lola Vice Instagram video aired where she talked about how she’s going to win the battle royal at Evolution.
Blake Monroe and Jordynne Grace were warming up in a makeup room. Monroe called Grace her “Muscle Muffin” and put makeup on her while Grace was doing resistance band workouts…
The Ricky Saints vs. Ethan Page hype package aired…
Entrances for the next match took place….
3. “All Ego” Ethan Page vs. Ricky Saints in a Falls Count Anywhere Match for the NXT North American Championship. Saints beat up Page before he could take off his jacket. Saints beat up Page a bit with a Kendo Stick. Page got a moment respite after Page backdropped Saints on a trash can behind the barricade. Page dragged Saints up the stands while punching him. Saints and Page traded hands while in the crowd. Saints and Page actually brawled into the seats where the fans were.
Saints did his signature Old School move on a guardrail near concourse. Saints then sent Page into the actual Concourse area. Page sent Saints into a pillar and then put Saints in a Boston Crab. Saints shoved Ego into the pillar to escape Ego’s edge. Both men traded fatigued strikes. Saints gave Page a Modified F5 into the WWE merch table. Saints got a two count. Page and Saints brawled over to the ringside.
Saints gave Page a Irish Whip into the steel steps. A “we want tables” chant ensued (They gave ya’ll a merch table a few seconds ago! I should call ya’ll crackheads since ya’ll treat cracked tables like it’s crack cocaine). Page rapped a chair around the neck of Saints and then sent him into the ringpost to hit Saints in the injured larynx. Booker is overdoing his brain stem joke (When he mistakenly called a larynx a medulla oblongata). Saints fended off Page by spraying him with a fire extinguisher. Saints detached a guard rail and slammed it on Page.
Saints set up the guardrail in the ring against the turnbuckle. Page escaped a Roshambo attempt and then slammed Saints’s neck into the buckle. Page opened up some chairs in near the turnbuckle. Saints recovered and hit Page with a Tornado X Factor onto the seat of the chair for a nearfall. Saints set up the spine of the chairs against each other. Page reversed Saints with a backdrop on the spines of the chairs.
Page suplexed Saints through the guard rail for a good nearfall. Page slammed a chair on the back of Saints. Page opened up more chairs. Page dragged Saints to the top rope. Saints bit Page’s face to escape and hit him with a Jackknife Power Bomb through the chairs for a good nearfall. Page and Saints brawled over to the backstage office area. Saints did a double boot by holding the pipes. Saints accidentally stumbled into Jasper Troy, who gave Saints a Black Hole Slam into a crate.
The action spilled over to the entrance ramp which was level with the ring. Saints reversed Ego’s Edge with a backdrop. Saints ran off the body of the referee and hit Ego with a Tornado DDT. Booker said Ricky should be DQ’d. Vic and Corey clowned on Booker because it’s no DQ. Page backdropped Saints and then gave Saints an Ego’s Edge off the stage through tables for the win.
Ethan Page defeated Ricky Saints via pinfall in 14:46 to retain the NXT North American Championship.
John’s Thoughts: Oh shoot! All In 2025 happened early with Ricky Starks vs. Ethan Page in an awesome hardcore match. Oh wait? This isn’t Arlington, Texas? I kid. This was fun and really creative. Reminded me of some of those fun attitude era backstage brawls and AEW backstage brawls. The Jasper Troy cameo was well done when Ricky stumbled into him. Every part of this match was very fun. The only thing really missing here is blood really would have enhanced it. Ethan Page and Je’von Evans were at least allowed to use blood capsules! Was this also a Loser Leaves NXT match? We’ll see (Even though while both men are ready for the main roster, I would have moved up Page first due to him being more flexible in terms of being able to play any character. Everything from comedy to sadistic).
A Luca Crucifino instagram video aired where he was excited for the Tony D’Angelo Family final battle. He said he wants to be known as a wrestler, not a lawyer…
Vic Joseph announced NXT’s next PLE for August 24th, Heatwave…
John’s Thoughts: BOOOOOOO! Dammit WWE!?! During Forbidden Door? Really?
NXT GM Ava was in the ring with a contract signing table set up. Ava said Evolution would be history, but so will Slammiversary. Ava said she’s here on TNA authority figure Santino Marella’s behalf to moderate a TNA contract signing. Mike Santana made his entrance through the crowd. Say his name and he appears! I believe in Joe Hendry! Clap Clap! Joe Hendry was out next. Vic and Corey continued to clown on Book about him thinking a Larynx was a part of the brain stem a few weeks ago (it was a funny botch when it happened live).
TNA President Carlos Silva was shown in the crowd (this man is getting some airtime recently). Ava asked all three men for their signatures. Santina stood up and fired up the Atlanta crowd. A TNA chant ensued. Santana said he doesn’t take moments like this for granted. He said representing TNA and being on a WWE PLE means something to him. He said the TNA Championship means something to him, and it looks like Trick is taking things for granted.
Mike said for him it represents much more: Hustle, Pride, Dedication, and respect. All things Trick had once upon a time. He said he thinks Trick got soft, baby boy! Santana said next week we’ll find out if Trick Hollywood here is all sizzle and no steak. Mike then called out Joe, saying he respect how Joe reps the brand. Mike paused to allow “we believe” chants. Mike said at the end of the day, Trick is standing in the way of Mike getting his, so they have to throw hands.
Santana said TNA was built off the backs of the best professional pro wrestlers and at Slammiversary Santana will bring the championship back to the roots. Joe said he respects how Mike wants to bring TNA back to the roots, but Joe wants to continue to take TNA to new heights like only he could. Joe brought up TNA hiding behind people like First Class and High Ryze. Joe said next week Joe will have to face them without pillars and Joe will make Trick believe in Joe Hendry.
Trick cleared his throat and asked Mike and Joe if they got it out their system. Trick said he’ll give Mike and Joe advise, you better put respect on Trick’s name. He said he’s Him and Mike and Joe aren’t Him. He said he has the stroke, steak, sizzle, midas touch, and the man carrying two brands. He said it’s not about making anyone believe or making promises to a daughter. It’s about getting done with business.
An AJ Styles chant ensued, and Trick said “Ey Trick Williams”. Trick said he doesn’t need an entourage to beat all ya’lls asses. Trick was the last to sign the contract. Joe pulled Trick back to the ring when he tried to leave. He said that he and Mike can agree that the TNA Title will come back to TNA. Santana said “and you talk to much” (that’s going in the signature Botchamania segment). Mike and Joe punched around Trick put him through the contract table…
The commentary team checked in and ran through tonight’s Saturday Night’s Main Event card. Vic was interrupted when DarkState made their entrance, complete with their light show. DarkState mugged Santana and Hendry. DarkState left Santana lying with a pop up Shield Bomb. Trick was watching from the ramp…
John’s Thoughts: I was about to wonder why they put a TV segment on a PLE, but this contract signing was was elevated by three wonderful talkers, especially Mike Santana. I’m really happy for Santana. Dude comes off real and it looks like he really is appreciative about where he is now. I want him to stick in TNA as long as possible, but you know WWE is going to want to bring him in. Santana’s a real and humble dude that you want in a WrestleMania main event. Check him out on TNA Impact if you want to see this guy cut the best promos on a week to week business.
A Tony D’Angelo promo where he hyped up next week’s D’Angelo Family final battle. Tony D revealed that he stole the Heritage Cup. Tony D told the cup to sleep with the fishes and then tossed the cup over the bridge into a river…
John’s Thoughts: Oh shoot! Is the useless Heritage Cup finally dead? This was how NXT used to kill off their released wrestlers. Hopefully this sticks, but last time when Penn and Teller sent the cup to the Undead Realm, Penn just brought it back the following week.
Josh Briggs fired up Yoshiki Inamura backstage and told him to win the title “by any means necessary”. Inamura said he’s going to win, but with honor. Briggs and Inamura fist bumped and made their entrance. NXT Champion Oba Femi made his entrance. Mike Rome handled the formal in-ring championship match introductions. Vic Joseph said a NXT championship haven’t changed hands in Atlanta (that’s a weirdly random stat)…
4. Oba Femi vs. Yoshiki Inamura (w/Josh Briggs) for the NXT Championship. Inamura got back to his feet quickly after being shoved to the ground. Oba and Inamura traded shoulders in a Test of Strength. Oba had the upper hand with Inamura creating a bridge. Oba let go of the hold. Oba put Inamura in a side headlock. Inamura went for a Stinger Splash, but Oba lifted him into a backdrop. Inamura no sold the toss.
Inamura struck a Sumo pose and hit Oba with a Sumo shove. Inamura hit Oba with a corner tackle and shoulder tackle for a nearfall. Inamura hit Oba with a elbow drop. Oba swatted Inamura to the mat with a overhead chop to the chest. Inamura dropped Oba off the apron and hit him with a flying Missile Shoulder Tackle. Inamura hit Oba with a Helicopter Body Slam for a two count. Oba hit Inamura with a modified Big Ending for a nearfall.
Vic mentioned the days Oba Femi is champion (why is Vic randomly throwing out the usual Michael Cole championship death flags? Those get balanced out by them foreshadowing Briggs costing Inamura the title). Oba gave Inamura a Gourd Buster on the top rope for a nearfall. Vic noted that targeting the gut might weaken Inamura’s charged Frog Splash. Inamura reversed a back suplex into a crossbody for a few nearfalls.
Oba hit Inamura with a Spinebuster for a good nearfall. Inamura lowered his weight to block a suplex. Both men teterd to reverse suplexes. Inamura hit Oba with Sumo Palms. Inamura hit Oba with a fun CQC slap combo into a rolling elbow. Inamura hit Oba with a Deadlift German Suplex for a nearfall. Inamura charged up a Frog Splash, but Oba recovered. Oba shoved Inamura into the referee. REF BUMP!!
Briggs hit Oba in the back of the head with the NXT Title with Inamura not seeing it. Inamura went for the frog splash, but stopped when he noticed Briggs still holding the weapon in his hand. Inamura reversed Oba into a shoulder tackle. Inamura hit Oba with the Charged Frog Splash, but the referee was still bumped. Oba hit Inamura with a choke slam. Inamura kicked out at two. Oba and Inamura traded Fighting Spirit forearms in the ring.
Inamura rallied with chops. Both men went back to Fighting Spirit. Inamura hit Oba with a overhead punch. Inamura hit Oba with a delayed Blue Thunder Bomb for a good nearfall. Oba knocked Briggs off the apron. Inamura rolled up Oba for a two count. Oba hit Inamura with his Power Bomb finisher for the win.
Oba Femi defeated Yoshiki Inamura via pinfall in 13:18 to retain the NXT Championship.
John’s Thoughts: An awesome big man match with Inamura continuing to showcase his unique and unorthodox big man offense. Even though this match looked great on paper, the interest was hurt with them rushing the build. This match deserved at least a month or two of storytelling, instead you just have Josh Briggs laying it on thick, foreshadowing that he’s going to wonk the finish. That aside, both men put in good work here. Oba is proving he can have good matches with any contrasting or comparable in-ring style. Inamura, meanwhile, is an instant hit on NXT.
Trick Williams approached Ava backstage and talked about how Joe and Mike are plotting against him. Ava said she’s more worried about DarkState jumping Mike and Joe. Ava implied that Trick hired DarkState. Trick said they jumped him before too! Ava said Trick can prove his innocent by teaming with Hendry and Santana next week against DarkState. Trick said “oh hell naw”…
Sarah Schreiber interviewed Oba Femi who gave Inamura his props. Inamura showed up and apologized for Briggs interfering in their match. Oba said he’ll give Inamura a free title shot because Inamura deserves a fair match due to fighting with honor. Josh Briggs barged in to yell at Oba. Referees dragged Briggs away…
The commentary team hyped matches for Tuesday’s NXT…
The women’s tag team match hype package aired…
Jordynne Grace came out to her terrible Def Rebel remix of her old TNA theme (and you know it’s def rebel because of the random dude saying a random tagline before the song). Blake Monroe made her entrance. I think she might have inherited Bobby Roode’s spinning platform. Fatal Influence made their entrance next. Vic said the women have main evented the Great American Bash before, but this is historic because it’s the first time they main evented in a regular tag team match (what’s up with Vic and the lame statistics tonight?)…
5. Jordynne Grace and Blake Monroe vs. “Fatal Influence” Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henley (w/Jazmyn Nyx). Grace tossed around Henley with her power offense. Jayne tagged in. Jayne rolled up Grace a few times for kickouts. Jayne told Grace to chill. Monroe tagged in for the first time in WWE. Blake soaked in the cheers. Vic joked about Booker’s repetitive jokes sounding like a bingo card. Both women traded wristlocks.
Blake got the upper hand. Henley tagged in. Blake and Grace traded tags to trap Henley in her corner. Blake hit Henley with a Helicopter Sidewalk Slam for a nearfall. Jayne distracted the ref to allow Nyx to get a cheap shot in. Jayne tagged in and worked on Monroe with methodical offense. Grace got the hot tag and suplexed both opponents. A “muscle muffin” chant ensued. Henley ran away and sent Grace right into Jayne’s big boot.
Henley and Jayne cut the ring in half on Grace for a few minutes. Monroe rallied with axe handles off the hot tag. Monroe hit Jayne with a a missile dropkick. Monroe went for a Sunset Flip bomb off the apron, but Henley pulled Jayne in. Nix hit Monroe with a roundhouse while the referee was distracted with Henley. Henley hit Monroe with a Springboard Blockbuster for a nearfall. Monroe used a modified jackknife for a nearfall.
Monroe hit Henley with a headbutt. Grace tagged herself in. Monroe hit Henley with a running knee when Grace rolled up Henley. Grace and Henley brawled to the ramp. Henley hit Grace with a nice looking slingshot spear. That one got a “this is awesome”. Jayne and Monroe tagged in and traded forearms. Monroe sidestepped Jayne and hit her with a German Suplex.
Nyx shoved Monroe off the top rope. Knockouts Champion Masha Slamovich walked out to punch Nyx. Henley and Jayne hit Blake with a double team move. Grace shoved Henley on Jayne to break the pin. All four women traded hands. Henley hit Grace with a Tiger Feint Kick. Jayne rolled up Monroe for a two count. Grace took care of Henley at ringside. Monroe hit Jayne with Sweeping DDT for the victory.
Blake Monroe and Jordynne Grace defeated Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henley via pinfall in 16:31.
Grace and Monroe celebrated to close the show…
John’s Thoughts: Well? That was a decent match. Both teams worked hard as usual given the talent level. The problem here is this was your usual Teddy Long classic weekly TV main event. This was so TV that there was the usual 4 minute cut the ring in half heat segment before the hot tag to fill in the usual commercial break. If you want to see what Blake Monroe has to offer in the ring, pull up yo HBO Max and watch her debut in AEW (or if you’re a red blooded American male, watch Mariah May vs. Mina Shirakawa going at. You’ll thank me) . This was fine, but I also would tell you that you could have ended the show after the Oba match to not waste your time.
It was a fine match, just, it should have been on TV. Or in the mid-card of Evolution. The finish was logical in that it sets up Monroe with a future women’s title shot due to her “pinning the champion”. I have a good feeling that the champion might be Jordynne Grace after tomorrow. Makes the most money making sense in that it puts Grace in position to become the NXT-TNA combined women’s champion. Grace can be Miss Rah Rah TNA given her recent history there, similar to when Christian Cage was Mr. Rah Rah TNA when he beat Kenny Omega for the TNA title on Rampage. You won’t get Tom Phillips getting all mad at Grace like he does Trick due to Grace being an OG. Then you set up for Grace to feud with Blake. Simple?
The build was rushed, and the card looked really thrown together. It was really thrown together in one week, because NXT television the last 3 weeks were all over the place trying to book 5 different shows at once (NXT TV, GaB, Evolution, Impact, and Slammiversary). That said, aside from the good but missable main event, everyone exceeded the low expectations of this random card (Ruca vs. Dame was messy at points, but at least the match made sense on the card). Ethan Page vs. Ricky Saints was the best match for me due to how fun it was, but I also really liked the David vs. Goliath story of Je’von Evans vs. Jasper Troy. The contract signing was also productive.

“BOOOOOOO! Dammit WWE!?! During Forbidden Door? Really?”
Who the fuck cares what the minor leagues are doing?
If you’re a fan of a company showing predatory business practices, I’m not gonna judge. You be you.
(Minor leagues? I understand MLW or TNA, but AEW got a TV deal and streaming son!)
Damn that WWE for running shows for the last 35 years just to undermine AEW!!
If you think they give two bright blue rat shits about a company that struggles to draw 3,000 people and 600k viewers for their A show, then you’re out of your mind.
AEW is predatory to their own product by producing shit for years on end with zero marketable stars.
WWE has clearly seen enough AEW to know that they don’t need to pay a single fucking bit of attention to their schedule.
(…I mean, but they clearly do care)
But ey! I like the way ya’ll think. It’s mindless entertainment for me. I missed ya’ll tribal negative peeps. I was missing reading all the goofy ish all the LOL-TNA fans used to try to defend because they feel personally attacked or something (back when TNA used to have all those cornball lame segments).
Can’t we just enjoy “the more quality pro wrestling the better”? I can’t comprehend, from sports teams, politics, wrestling, to et cetera, why peeps get all grumpy and mopey going “ew, that thing is there, I must hate”? I get a nice laugh entertainment out of people hating and acting a foo somethimes.
Not saying you are a foo, but you taking effort to argue about something that didn’t need to be argued about is kinda funny ^_^
No Impact review this week? Can’t seem to find it anywhere.
I’ll most likely have it up sometime tomorrow. Got called in for something yesterday. Would have done it today, but being in the west coast, it made this review early today along with the other errands I had to do.
This was fine. Some matches better than others. But I fail to see how much of anything is PPV/PLE level any more. So much TV. So many shows. Why should I watch this (or SNME or 19 hours of All-in) over anything else?
Agreed. There is way too much wrestling on TV right now. I would be happy with 2 hours of Raw, 1 hour of NXT, and 1 hour of TNA on a real channel.
Give me PPVs that matter, and have time devoted to building up to them, and you’ve got a winning product.
WWE wants Santana as a WM main eventer?!? I like Santana, but that’s a maaaaaaaaaaaaaassive reach.
