Retired pro wrestler Matt Morgan was unanimously voted the new mayor of Longwood, Florida at Monday night. City commissioners voted unanimously for Morgan. “The first thing I did was flash back to grammar school riding the special education bus and being made fun,” Morgan said. “It always made me feel lesser than others, but now it has come full circle. I really believe if you are willing to put in the work, you are able to punch your own ticket and do whatever you want to do with your life one day.” Read more on the story at MyNews13.com.

Powell’s POV: The story notes that in addition to all five city commissioners voting for Morgan, exiting mayor Ben Paris also voted for him. Morgan was voted a city commissioner in 2017, and became deputy mayor last year. Morgan last worked for Impact Wrestling in 2017 prior to his election.

  1. Not to belittle it, but the accomplishment means a lot less when it’s 5 people making the decision. Why do the 13,000 residents of the town get no say in who their mayor is?
