Impact Wrestling will be rebranded as Global Force Wrestling. Company executives Ed Nordholm and Jeff Jarrett confirmed change in story posted at Tennessean.com. The story also noted that the company intends to develop an on demand streaming service to “tap into its valuable library.”
Powell’s POV: There was a story on Profootballtalk.com earlier today about how the NFL uses the Friday of the holiday weekend to dump less than flattering news such as player suspensions because they know many people are distracted. With that in mind, it’s bizarre that Impact/GFW would choose the same day to announce its name change. That said, I feel that it’s best to move away from anything as closely associated with TNA as the Impact Wrestling name was. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen what approach the company will employ with their streaming service, but I don’t sense that there’s a lot of interest in their library. That said, the company could potentially benefit from taking an over the top approach rather than attempting to sell their pay-per-view events for $44.95 while the industry leader is charging just $9.99 for its streaming service.
And may wrestling’s only real alternative continue to prosper. Whatever the letters are, the true fans will continue to support it.
Slammiversary 15 is this Sunday, that’s why they announced it today. Also, their tape library is very valuable. Do you know who and what amazing matches, feud, storylines, etc theyve had? To name a few, Kurt angle, Sting, Aj styles, Samoa Joe, Abyss, rhino, Christian, raven, Dudleys, Hardys, Lax, motor city machine guns, not to mention early days of cm punk, Dean ambrose, last appearances of guys like macho man Randy savage.
You think the work of Sting and Angle in TNA is worth seeing? LQTM!
The real value is the early X division, the high points of Joe and Styles, and the short run last year under Corgan. Valuable, for sure, but most of what you mentioned is washed up bullshit like the ECW guys 10 years after they were relevant.
oh god… Impact was a nice easy good-sounding name. Global Force is just a frickin’ lame 90’s cartoon name.
The GFW was a failed brand, they had a hanfdul of shows and couldn’t even get a TV deal. So the company thinks that adopting a failed brand name is there best bet? I know the TV show will continue to be called Impact, but is Jeff’s ego so big that he refuses to give up using the GFW name?
oh cool so the show’s still called Impact?
On television it would appear so; something like GFW Impact.
It’s not a huge deal. Just a way to get further away from the embarrassing TNA initials. GFW Impact, etc. sounds fine.

Ummmmmm maybe because Profootballtalk.com isn't an industry leading source of validated information such as the above suggestion about Friday of the holiday weekend?
I know, right. A few years back and idiot local radio guy in DC, Mike Wise, intentionally floated a fake tweet about an injury to Ben Roethslisberger just to see if PFT would run with it. They did, citing an “unnamed source,” then through an epic hissyfit when they found out they’d been had. They’re complete garbage as a news source.
