Joey Styles was fired by Evolve booker Gabe Sapolsky on Saturday for making a Donald Trump inspired “grab them by the…” joke during Saturday’s event. Sapolsky noted via Twitter that he had issued a mandate regarding political commentary of any kind during the show. On Monday, the Beyond Wrestling and Chikara promotions both announced that they are severing ties with Styles.
Powell’s POV: Styles was apologetic that night and continues to be. It will be interesting to see where he pops up next. He definitely made a mistake and while I can’t blame promotions for coming to this conclusion, particularly Sapolsky given his pre-show mandate or even those working with FloSports if the streaming service’s management is upset, I also don’t think he made such an egregious mistake that he should end up being blackballed. By the way, FloSports/Evolve have edited the incident from the on demand version of the show.
Joey Styles will no longer be appearing at Sunday’s live event in Worcester or any future Beyond Wrestling live events. Thank you.
