WWE touts their Netflix film “The Main Event”

By Jason Powell, ProWrestling.net Editor (@prowrestlingnet)

WWE issued a press release to announce that production is underway for the Netflix film The Main Event starring Seth Carr, Tichina Arnold, Ken Marino, Adam Pally, along with WWE wrestlers Kofi Kingston, The Miz, and Sheamus. Jay Karas will be the director. “After discovering a magical mask, an 11-year-old aspiring wrestler enters a competition to become the next WWE Superstar,” reads the official description for the film, which is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2020.

Powell’s POV: There’s no word yet as to how much time Kingston and Miz will miss while filming their parts. For those wonder why WWE Studios is shooting the film for Netflix rather than the WWE Network, it’s clearly a case of WWE Studios making money from Netflix, whereas they wouldn’t get that payday if they produced it for their in-house streaming service.
