Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (Episode 33)

A reminder that there was not an episode last Saturday, as AAA had the live show Sunday morning. Corey Graves and JBL again provided commentary. No Rey Mysterio tonight.
* Footage aired of Sunday’s show in Texas.
* I checked cagematch.net, and it appears this next match took place on July 3 in Durango, Mexico.
1. Dinamico vs. “Los Vipers” Taurus and Histeria vs. El Fiscal, La Parka, and Mr. Iguana. La Parka and Histeria (masked in orange and black) opened. Iguana battled Taurus (his red-and-black gear is similar to what Black Taurus wore in Mexico). Fiscal dropped Dinamico with a clothesline at 2:00. Histeria got back in and chopped Fiscal. Histeria is really short! The rudos worked over Fiscal in their corner. Fiscal suplexed Dinamico at 3:30.
Mr. Iguana finally got a hot tag, and he hit a satellite headscissors takedown. He hit a flying headbutt on Dinamico. La Parka tagged in and hit a backbreaker over his knee on Dinamico, then a back suplex. He hit a Blue Thunder Bomb on Dinamico. Mr. Iguana hit a springboard crossbody block onto everyone on the floor at 6:00. Fiscal dove onto everyone. La Parka dove onto everyone. In the ring, La Parka hit a kip-up stunner on Histeria, then his twisting suplex to pin Histeria. Fast-paced and fun.
El Fiscal, La Parka, and Mr. Iguana defeated Dinamico vs. “Los Vipers” Taurus and Histeria at 6:48.
* Footage aired of the women’s gauntlet, won by La Catalina. She was interviewed backstage, speaking in Spanish with English subtitles. She has a strategy to beat Flammer for the Reina De Reinas Title. She told Flammer she doesn’t have much time left with the title, so she should kiss it goodbye.
* Footage aired of the tournament, culminating in Penta beating Rey Fenix to earn a World Heavyweight Championship match against Roman Reigns on the September 14 Raw in Mexico City.
* Rey Mysterio narrated a vignette about the history and importance of lucha six-man tags. The Clowns will face Los Perros Del Mal at Triplemania!
* Back to the venue, El Grande Americano introduced a legend… Pimpinela Escarlata! Pimpinela danced to the ring. Pimpi thanked the fans for a wonderful life provided by them. The crowd chanted “Pimpinela!” Americano and Pimpinela hugged. (I swear, everything Ludvig Kaiser does is just perfect. He was born to play this role.)
* A vignette aired with Grande Americano staring into the camera and talking about his big matches this year, and now having his eyes set on Dominik Mysterio.
* In another backstage segment, Rey Mysterio made another match for Triplemania. It will be La Parka vs. Mr. Iguana vs. Laredo Kid!
* Lots of commercials for Triplemania and Raw, and boxing, and shows on Netflix. They seriously have nothing in the vault they can air? We’re back to Triplemania lineup stuff.
* The War Raiders were interviewed backstage (with Spanish subtitles). Erik said there’s not a team on this planet that can take their belts… certainly not R-Truth and Damian Priest! Ivar said no one is ready for war!
* Flammer came to ringside to watch the main event! (NOTE: It is unclear when this match took place. Cagematch.net doesn’t indicate these two ever met in a singles match.)
2. La Catalina vs. Adelicious. Both women were in the gauntlet on Sunday, but Adelicious was eliminated long before La Catalina entered, so they didn’t cross paths. Basic reversals early on. Catalina repeatedly slammed Adelicious’ head into the top turnbuckle, then she hit a missile dropkick. She hit a running buttbump into the corner and a fisherman’s suplex at 3:00. Catalina hit a buttbump as Adelicious was in the ropes. She wrapped Adelicious around her back and slammed her stomach-first to the mat for the pin. That has to be the shortest main event since this show launched, right?
La Catalina defeated Adelicious at 3:33.
* Flammer argued with La Catalina. (Clearly this is recent footage, right?)
Final Thoughts: Certainly a skippable episode. All the commercials told us what matches are coming on the two nights of Triplemania, so I guess it did its job. The six-man tag was fun enough, but it really doesn’t tie much into the Triplemania shows.
