WWE SmackDown (Episode 1,411)
Taped on August 28, 2026, in Cleveland, Ohio, at Rocket Arena
Aired September 4, 2026, on USA Network (streamed internationally on Netflix)
NOTE: I’m watching the international feed of the show to avoid commercial breaks. For those watching the show on USA Network, don’t scroll past what’s aired on television if you want to avoid spoilers.
[Hour One] Joe Tessitore checked in on commentary and was eventually joined by Wade Barrett… A video package recapped last week’s Kevin Owens vs. Gunther vs. Finn Balor match to become No. 1 contender to the WWE Championship, which ended in a no-contest due to Sami Zayn’s interference…
Gunther made his entrance while ring announcer Mark Nash introduced him. Once in the ring, Gunther said he’d been looking forward Sami Zayn all day, but he knew he was hiding. Gunther said the show wouldn’t go forward until Zayn came out.
Sami Zayn showed up behind the fans on the main floor and told Gunther that he was keeping his distance because he still had a broken hand. Zayn claimed he’s the last good guy in WWE. He said their champion, CM Punk, is a snake in the grass who shouldn’t be allowed to breathe the same air as him.
Zayn said all he wants is a chance to get the WWE Championship back. He said Gunther got a spot in last week’s match, but he didn’t. Zayn said if Gunther didn’t like what happened last week, he should buckle up. Zayn said nobody would get theirs until he gets his. Gunther said that if Zayn wouldn’t come to the ring, then he’d go to him. Zayn said he’s still not medically cleared.
Finn Balor showed up in the crowd and spoke briefly before chasing Zayn to ringisde. Zayn entered the ring and rolled out the other side.
Kevin Owens’ entrance theme played. Owens came out and ran after Zayn, who exited the arena floor…
CM Punk was shown watching the segment backstage. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis showed up and complained about what Zayn has been doing. Punk told Aldis that he had an idea.
Punk spotted Johnny Gargano planking while his wife Candice LeRae stood by. Punk said he knew Johnny Wrestling was in there somewhere and played up that he’s a son of Cleveland. Punk offered Gargano a shot at the WWE Championship during SmackDown. Gargano didn’t budge.
Punk started to walk away with Aldis, but Candice stopped them. “Oh my God,” LeRae said while looking toward her husband, who was now on his feet. “Let’s do it,” Gargano said while on his feet in response to Punk’s challenge. LeRae was giddy that her husband was no longer comatose…
“Fatal Influence” Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Lainey Reid made their entrance before the first commercial break… [C]
Powell’s POV: Gunther, Balor, and Owens being pissed at Zayn for ruining last week’s match is a logical development. Conversely, you have to turn your brain off to believe that Gargano travelled to city after city while comatose. We’ll see if they even bother trying to explain it. That said, I’m looking forward to Punk vs. Gargano. By the way, before last week’s taping, WrestleTix listed the venue as being set up for 10,815, with 10,363 tickets distributed. The venue’s capacity for pro wrestling ranges from 12,500 to 19,000 depending on the stage setup and production layout. The last time WWE ran the venue, 9,913 tickets were distributed for the February 9 Raw and SmackDown taping.
Tessitore said CM Punk vs. Johnny Gargano for the WWE Championship was official for later in the show…
Backstage, Charlotte Flair spotted Alexa Bliss and questioned why she wasn’t dressed for their match, adding that they had a chance to earn a shot at the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. Bliss said there was a change in plans. Tatum Paxley showed up and was giddy about teaming with Flair, who did not share her enthusiasm…
1. WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid (w/Jacy Jayne) vs. Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley (w/Alexa Bliss) in a non-title match. They cut to a break during the opening minute of the match. [C] Late in the match, Paxley kicked out of a Reid pin attempt, which sent Reid toward Flair, who hit her with a big boot from the apron. Paxley hit the Cemetery Driver finisher on Reid before pinning her.
Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley beat WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid in a non-title match in 3:35 (with no commercial time included).
Afterward, Jade Cargill, B-Fab, and Michin attacked Flair, Paxley, and Bliss. The Fatal Influence trio helped Jade’s crew work over the babyfaces. Jayne, Henley, and Reid indicated to Jade, B-Fab, and Michin that the babyface trio was all theirs. With Bliss down, B-Fab and Michin hit Paxley with their BTA finisher, and then Jade put Flair down with Jaded…
Powell’s POV: There wasn’t much to the match, at least in terms of what was shown on television. But the post-match beatdown put some heat on Jade, B-Fab, and Michin heading into their six-woman tag match with Flair, Bliss, and Paxley on Sunday Night’s Main Event.
The broadcast team recapped highlights from last week of Nikki Bella attacking Paige…
Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviewed Nikki Bella and asked what she says to people who say she’s taken things too far with Paige. Nikki blamed Paige for ruining her return and Brie Bella’s injury.
Paige walked onto the interview set and said she wasn’t going ot touch Nikki. Paige said she realized that Nikki didn’t like her from day one. Paige said the reason Nikki didn’t like her is that she built her career on hustle, loyalty, and respect. Paige said that Nikki better bring it next week in Mexico City, or she would end their match quicker than Nikki’s last relationship…
Powell’s POV: Nikki deserves credit for being a good sport with Paige’s jabs about her personal life.
Nick Aldis was on the phone in his office when Gunther arrived. Aldis wrapped up his phone call with a doctor, and then Gunther complained about Johnny Gargano getting a title shot. Danhausen could be seen doing Dahausen things behind them.
Gunther said he figured it out. He said Aldis got a taste of the limelight when they wrestled, and now he’s making crazy decisions to keep the spotlight on him. Aldis said Gunther could talk to Punk about Gargano getting a title shot, and then excused himself because he and the doctor had to address the WWE Women’s Championship.
Danhausen tried to buddy up to Gunther by putting his hand on his back and saying that he knew exactly how Gunther felt. Gunther grabbed Danhausen’s wrist and told him not to touch him ever again. Gunther exited. Danhausen put a framed picture with “Employee of the Month” written on a piece of tape on Aldis’s desk…
Aldis stood in the ring with a man he introduced as Dr. Woodruff, saying he was there to discuss Chelsea Green’s injury situation with full transparency. Aldis introduced Green.
WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green made her entrance. She slapped some hands, but she looked worried. Once in the ring, Green said they had already done this. She said the fans weren’t going to get waterworks. She said they were getting a pissed-off WWE Women’s Champion. Green said she’s not worried about her safety; she’s worried about her legacy.
Aldis said he likes Green, but he is because it’s his job to be. Aldis said it’s not up to him anymore, and then had the doctor speak. The doctor told Green that she has a fractured orbital bone that has not fully healed. The doctor said it is healing. He said that as long as she wears the face mask, she was cleared to compete.
Nia Jax and Lash Legend made their entrance. Jax said Green should give her an immediate title shot or she would break her other orbital bone.
Tiffany Stratton ran out and hit Legend with a Backstabber. Aldis stood on the floor and booked Green vs. Jax for the WWE Women’s Championship for next week in Mexico City. Aldis booked Jax vs. Stratton on the spot. Stratton hit Legend with a baseball slide kick, but Jax put Stratton down with a clothesline… [C]
2. Tiffany Stratton (w/Chelsea Green) vs. Nia Jax (w/Lash Legend). The match was joined in progress. Green wore her face shield while at ringside.
