Daria Rae joined Hannifan and Rehwoldt. Gia Miller checked in from the concourse for an interview with fans…
Ring announcer McKenzie Mitchell delivered the introductions for the opening match as the wrestlers made their entrance…
1. Indi Hartwell vs. Mara Sadè vs. Elayna Black in a three-way. There were still plenty of empty seats as the match started. In the end, Sade performed a nice top rope moonsault on Hartwell, but Black pulled her off. Black hit the Blackout DDT on Sade before pinning her.
Elayna Black defeated Mara Sade and Indi Hartwell in 5:00 in a three-way.
Afterward, TNA Hall of Famer Traci Brooks walked onto the stage. She announced there will be a 16-woman tournament starting Thursday to crown the first TNA Knockouts TV Champion. A referee came out and showed off the title belt, which is silver with some purple lettering. Brooks said the title would be defended exclusively on TNA television. “Ladies, let’s make history,” Brooks said…

Powell’s POV: The fans were still arriving, so the wrestlers had a rough atmosphere to deal with. The match was fine, yet trivial. Oddly, TNA went with a Knockouts TV Title even though the men have an International Championship. I wonder if they’ll overhaul that title again. Both are big upgrades over the poorly named Digital Media Championship that became the International Title. I love the idea of a deeper 16-woman tournament rather than a typical eight-wrestler tournament, in part because it adds stakes to numerous television matches. One question about the title only being defended on TV. Isn’t that pretty much the case with all TNA titles these days, since they rarely run house shows?
Home Town Man came out wearing a Boston Celtics’ Larry Bird jersey. He carried a can of beer and poured some into one of the iHeartRadio coffee mugs on the broadcast team’s podium. He said the beer was a local IPA. Hannifan asked him questions about the Celtics and New England Patriots…
Mustafa Ali and Tasha Steelz came out. Ali wanted to know who his challenger for the AEW International Championship would be. Daria was about to share more info, but Santino Marella’s entrance theme cut her off. Santino walked onto the stage to a nice ovation. Santino also booked an opponent for Ali. Santino announced that Ali would defend his title in a “triple way dance.” Santino said Ali would find out the identities of his challengers when everyone else does…
Boston Celtics radio voice Sean Grande joined the broadcast team. Hannifan noted that Mick Foley officiated Grande’s wedding. “Doesn’t everybody?” Grande asked…
2. Ricky Sosa vs. Eric Young. Young performed a Death Valley Driver off the ropes at one point. Sosa came back, ran up the ropes, and hit a nice moonsault. Young regained control until Sosa avoided his top rope moonsault attempt. Sosa hit a sit-out driver for a two count. Sosa hit his Blue Thunder Bang finisher and got the clean pin…

Powell’s POV: I’m surprised this match was on the pre-show. I really liked the promo that Young delivered on Thursday’s Impact. He didn’t talk about The Cleanse or act like a crazy man. Rather, he established himself as the gatekeeper and questioned whether Sosa could pass the test. Sosa is just getting started in TNA, but he already feels like one of the company’s brightest young stars, so it was no surprise to see him win.
Ace Steel replaced Daria Rae at the podium with the hosts. The crew started to set up the Ultimate X structure. Hannifan tried to throw to a video package, but nothing happened. Steel spoke with the hosts about the TNA World Championship match. Steel said he thinks Nic Nemeth has Mike Santana’s number and would become the new TNA World Champion. Hannifan wrapped up the pre-show and said, ‘This one’s for Joe.” He noted that they were celebrating 24 years of TNA…
TNA Slammiversary Pay-Per-View
Ring announcer McKenzie Mitchell acknowledged the death of Joe Doering. There was a ten-bell salute with the crew on the stage. Cody Deaner stood next to Carlos Silva and spoke about Doering, saying that if you were his friend, you were his friend for life. He also spoke about Doering’s passion for pro wrestling and his strength. Deaner said he got to team with Doering after doctors opened his skull and removed a cancerous tumor, before telling him that his career was over. Deaner said Doering showed that if you have passion in your heart, you can do whatever you put your mind to. He said he got to spend time with Doering a couple of weeks ago. Deaner said that we all say thank you, Joe. Deaner dedicated Slamiversary to Doering. “Let’s blow the frickin’ roof off of this place, and Joe, this one’s for you,” Deaner said to close. A memorial graphic was shown for Doering…

A Slammiversary video package aired… Tom Hannifan and Matt Rehwoldt checked in on commentary… Entrances for the opening match took place. “Let’s kick things off with the return of a legend,” Rehwoldt said. Amazing Red made the first of the seven entrances for the Ultimate X match…
1. Cedric Alexander vs. Leon Slater vs. Frankie Kazarian vs. Fabian Aichner vs. KC Navarro vs. Mr. Elegance vs. Amazing Red in an Ultimate X match for the X Division Title. Hannifan stated during the entrances that Kazarian was wearing the same colors he wore in the first Ultimate X match 23 years earlier.
With everyone else down, Elegance made a play for the belt and took a moment to showboat before he was pulled down. Red performed a couple of Code Reds. Rehwoldt said the veteran hadn’t lost a damn thing. He went for a Code Red from the middle rope on Slater, but it didn’t go well. Kazarian made a play for the belt, but Aichner performed a springboard crossbody block to knock him down.
There was a sequence where three wrestlers had three other wrestlers on their shoulders while Slater was on the ropes. Two of the wrestlers tumbled to the floor, and then Slater performed a double Doomsday Blockbuster. Slater and Red climbed the cables and met in the middle. They pulled the belt down. Slater ended up with it, but Alexander stood in the ring and pulled it away from him to win the match.
Cedric Alexander defeated Leon Slater, Frankie Kazarian, Fabian Aichner, KC Navarro, Mr. Elegance, and Amazing Red in 10:30 in an Ultimate X match to retain the X Division Title.
Afterward, Kazarian got a mic and offered strong praise for Amazing Red. “My brother, you have my respect forever,” Kazarian said. Kazarian pointed everyone to the big screen to show how much everyone respects Red. An Amazing Red video package aired. It announced that Red will be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame. The live crowd gave Red a standing ovation and chanted, “You deserve it.” Red was emotional and shared a hug with Kazarian. TNA World Champion Mike Santana was shown watching his mentor’s moment from the stage. A “Thank you, Red,” chant broke out…
Powell’s POV: A very nice and well-deserved honor. I don’t know what it’s taken so long for him to return to a TNA ring, but I’m happy it happened. The Ultimate X match was entertaining, but tame compared to some past versions. The finish won’t make any Best of Ultimate X videos, but I got a kick out of the heel Alexander basically stealing the win. The rules require wrestlers to have the title and two feet in the ring, so that’s why Alexander was named the winner despite not pulling the belt down.
The broadcast team ran through the rest of the Slammiversary card… A video package set up the next match, and then entrances took place. Expressions delivered a heel introduction for AJ Francis on the stage and accompanied him to the ring. “Money” with Francis’s face on it fell from the rafters. Elijah played his guitar as part of his entrance. Expressions told him to stop because it was the intellectual property of Francis. Elijah called them Uncle Phil and DJ Jazzy Jeff…
2. AJ Francis (w/Expressions) vs. Elijah. Elijah can get his intellectual IP back if he wins. Yes, that’s really the stipulation. Elijah drilled Francis with a leaping knee to the face once the bell rang. Elijah covered Francis for a near fall in the opening seconds. Expressions got physically involved when Francis distracted the referee.
Later, Elijah hit his tombstone piledriver finisher, but Francis kicked out of the pin attempt that followed. Hannifan said no one in TNA had kicked out of that move. Elijah caught Expressions trying to grab his guitar. Expressions offered him money, but Elijah ended up slamming the guitar over his head. Francis rolled up Elijah for a two count and then powerbombed him, but he still couldn’t put him away. Elijah did a rope walk into a Destroyer and got the three count.
Elijah defeated AJ Francis in 9:10.
Afterward, Elijah pulled a new guitar with some lights on it out of a case…
Powell’s POV: The match was fine, but the stipulation made it all feel a little wonky. I’m not familiar with Expressions, but he’s a YouTube content creator, so I assume this was more of a one-off and he’s not joining AJ’s act permanently.
Gia Miller interviewed TNA World Champion Mike Santana on a backstage set. He said there have been a lot of rumors and speculation, but he’s lived and breathed and bled for TNA since the first day he walked in the door in 2017. Santana said tonight would be no different. He said he would give his heart and soul, just as he’d done since day one. Santana told Nic Nemeth that he hopes he knows who and what he’s stepping in the ring with…
3. Heather by Elegance and M by Elegance (w/Ash by Elegance, The Concierge) vs. Rosemary and Allie for the Knockouts Tag Team Titles. Both entrances were televised. The challengers both wore face paint. This was the first time the titles had been defended in four months. Rehwoldt said no one stepped up, which Hannifan disputed.
Heather had Allie down in the corner and tagged out before throwing a basement dropkick. M went up top and hit a Coast to Coast, which Hannifan said she calls the Toast to Toast. A short time later, M hit Rosemary with a top rope moonsault and had her pinned, but Allie broke it up. The wrestlers took turns hitting big moves, and all four wrestlers were down briefly.
Rosemary went for a pin, but Ash reached in from the floor. Rosemary went after her. Ash hid behind The Concierge. Rosemary sprayed green mist at him. Rosemary returned to the ring and was put down with a neckbreaker by M, who tagged out. M went down on her back and put Rosemary over her knees. Heather jumped from the top rope, but Rosemary got away from M, causing Heather to hit M with a double stomp. Allie hit a Codebreaker on Heather. Rosemary followed up with a reverse DDT before pining Heather…
Rosemary and Allie defeated Heather by Elegance and M by Elegance in 9:40 to win the Knockouts Tag Team Titles.
Powell’s POV: The crowd was quiet for this one, but they did cheer for the title change. M (Maggie Lee) continues to stand out with some flashy moves. The high spots are not ideal coming from a heel, but they are definitely impressive. She’s definitely someone to keep an eye on, given her look, size, and skill. It also doesn’t hurt that she trained at Seth Rollins’ Black and Brave Academy.
Backstage, Daria Rae complained to Santino Marella about how she booked an opponent for Mustafa Ali, only to have him book another. Santino told her to relax and said they have a fantastic three-way. He said sometimes the best things happen by accident. Daria said Santino is an accident. He asked if that meant she was saying he’s the best…

4. Mustafa Ali (w/Tasha Steelz) vs. Uhaa Nation and Rich Swann in a three-way for the TNA International Title. An “Uhaa” chant broke out.
Nation was in offensive control around 8:00, when he was distracted by Steelz on the apron. Special Agent Zero walked out, causing Nation to go to the floor. Ali hit Nation from behind with a suicide dive. Agent Zero slammed the ring steps on Nation.
In the ring, Swann avoided a 450 splash and then rolled up Ali for a two count. He followed up with a kick that turned Ali inside out. Swann went for a handspring move, but Ali caught him in a backslide and then went over him to bridge while getting the three count.
Mustafa Ali defeated Rich Swann and Uhaa Nation in roughly 10:00 in a three-way to retain the TNA International Championship.
Powell’s POV: A good match. Having Swann take the pin rather than Nation was logical. Nation was a nice payoff to the mystery wrestler tease as far as I’m concerned, but I’m sure some folks feel differently if they convinced themselves that it would be someone else. I’m happy to see Uhaa land in TNA, simply because I fear he would have ended up lost in the shuffle had he signed with AEW. I don’t know if he’s committed to TNA long term, but he should get a chance to shine if he sticks around.
A video package set up the No Surrender match. Eddie Edwards and Alisha Edwards made their entrance. Eddie stopped to harass Boston Celtics’ radio voice Sean Grande, who was in the front row. Backstage, Moose and JDC were walking when Moose stopped to greet Uhaa Nation. Moose excused himself, saying he had to go handle his business. Moose and JDC made their entrance…
5. Moose (w/JDC) vs. Eddie Edwards (w/Alisha Edwards) in a No Surrender match. The only way to win the match is if JDC or Alisha throws in the towel to surrender on behalf of their wrestler. Eddie caught Moose with a kick before he entered the ring. The referee rewarded him for cheating by calling for the bell to start the match. Moose came right back by powerbombing Eddie on the apron. Moments later, Eddie backdropped Moose on the bottom piece of the ring steps. Eddie and Alisha taunted Moose’s wife and son, who were in the front row.
Moose eventually grabbed a table and was trying to put it in the ring when Eddie kicked the table into him. Eddie took offense and ended up hitting his Boston Knee Party finisher. Eddie and Alisha tried to convince JDC to throw in the towel, but he didn’t budge. Moose came back and powerbombed Eddie. Alisha flipped off Moose, who wanted to spear Eddie through a table in the corner, but Eddie caught him with a Pedigree instead.
Eddie zip-tied Moose’s wrists to the middle rope. Moose’s wife took the towel from JDC and wanted to end the match, but JDC stopped her. Eddie grabbed Moose’s wife by the hair and shoved her to the ground. JDC tried to help, but Eddie dropped him with a punch. Moose’s son checked on Moose’s wife. Eddie grabbed Moose’s son and brought him into the ring. Eddie taunted Moose while setting up his son for a move, but the son low-blowed Eddie and escaped the ring. Moose’s wife slapped Alisha at ringside.
Moose broke the zip-ties and then speared Eddie twice. JDC tossed a chain to Moose, which he wrapped around his shoulder before spearing Eddie again. Eddie bled from the mouth. Moose kept the chain around his shoulder and wanted to spear Eddie through the table, but Alisha cut in front of him and threw in the towel.
Moose defeated Eddie Edwards in 13:10 in a No Surrender match.
Afterward, JDC stopped Moose from doing more. JDC gave Eddie a Stunner, and then Moose speared Eddie and Alisha through the table. Moose celebrated with JDC and his family and headed to the back with them…
Powell’s POV: A wild match with the unexpected involvement of Moose’s family members. Eddie and Alisha were big heels despite this show taking place in their hometown. Say what you will about the man-on-woman violence, but Eddie throwing Moose’s wife to the floor was a shocker and got major heat. The crowd also reacted strongly to Eddie dragging Moose’s son into the ring. This all worked for me since Eddie and Alisha got their comeuppance.
The announcers hyped the TNA World Championship match as still to come… A video package set up the Knockouts Title match, and then the entrances took place…
6. Lei Ying Lee vs. Xia Brookside for the TNA Knockouts Title. McKenzie Mitchell delivered in-ring introductions for the title match. Lee was in offensive control when Brookside avoided a kick on the floor, causing Lee to kick the ring post. Brookside targeted the left leg. Late in the match, Lee pulled Brookside out of the corner, and Brookside pulled the turnbuckle pad off in the process.
Lee powerbombed Brookside and got a two count. Lee limped as she went to the ropes. Brookside got behind her, but Lee kicked her away. Brookside bounced into the ropes, causing Lee to land face-first on the exposed turnbuckle. Brookside hit her DDT finisher and got the three count.
Xia Brookside defeated Lei Ying Lee in 11:50 to win the Knockouts Championship.
Carlos Silva entered the ring and presented the Knockouts Title belt to the new champion. The referee and Silva tried to raise Brookside’s arms, but she pulled away from them and then posed on the ropes…
Powell’s POV: They had a tough assignment of following the Moose and Edwards match. The live crowd was quiet to start, but the fans got a little more into it as the match went on. I appreciate that Brookside didn’t get emotional after winning the championship and remained in heel mode.
The broadcast team spoke at their desk and hyped Bound For Glory for Sunday, October 11, in Tampa. They also announced TNA Destination X for Sunday, November 15 in Edmonton…
Powell’s POV: Sunday nights during NFL season? Boo.
Entrances for the four-way ladder match for the TNA Tag Team Titles took place. Jason Hotch and John Skyler stopped and greeted Hotch’s wife and young daughter in the front row. The Hardys picked up a ladder that was in the entrance aisle. Some of their opponents idiotically ran toward them and were knocked down with the ladder…
7. Bear Bronson and Brian Myers vs. Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy vs. “The Righteous” Vincent and Dutch vs. “The Great Hands” John Skyler and Jason Hotch in a four-way ladder match for the TNA Tag Team Titles. The referee called for the bell when the Hardys were battering teams with the ladder. Two tables were set up on the floor, and then two more tables were placed on top of them roughly seven minutes in. There were two ladders set up in the middle of the ring. The Righteous went backstage and returned with a ladder wrapped in barbed wire and flowers, which the announcers assumed was straight out of the Wicked Garden.
The Righteous tossed the ladder in the ring. Bronson tried to fight them both off and leaned the ladder upside down in a corner of the ring. He scooped up Vincent, but Dutch broke it up and then powerslammed Bronson onto the “wicked ladder.” Dutch slammed Bronson on the ladder again, and then Vincent hit him with a Swanton. Rehwoldt called it a sick homage to the Hardys. A short time later, Vincent broke out his poison flower and used it on Myers, who fell off the ladder.
Late in the match, Bronson and Dutch fought on top of a ladder under the belts. The Hardys tipped over the ladder, which sent both men crashing through the four tables on the floor. A short time later, Jeff performed a Swanton from the top of a ladder that was set up on the floor onto the Great Hands, who were stacked on a ladder bridge that was over the apron and the barricade. The Hardys returned to the ring and pulled down the title belts to win the match.
Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy defeated Bear Bronson and Brian Myers, “The Righteous” Vincent and Dutch, and “The Great Hands” Jason Hotch and John Skyler in 17:30 in a four-way ladder match to win the TNA Tag Team Titles.
Powell’s POV: Wow, this was crazy. So much carnage. Hopefully, all eight guys are okay. Everyone worked hard, and Bronson especially took some hellacious bumps. The big spot with Bronson and Dutch going through the stacked tables on the floor looked awesome. I’m surprised the Hardys went over. I thought the Righteous would win and the Hardys would have to chase them for the titles.
The broadcast team set up “a special message” from Mike Santana. The TNA World Champion narrated the video package praising Konnan, which he closed by announcing him as another TNA Hall of Fame inductee…
Powell’s POV: A well-deserved honor for Konnan, whose work with both versions of LAX was excellent.
The broadcast team spoke at their desk and noted that ODB, Amazing Red, and Konnan will all be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame at Bound For Glory… A video package set up the TNA World Championship match…
Nic Nemeth made his entrance carrying the Call Your Shot trophy. Nemeth stopped to taunt Carlos Silva, who was seated at ringside. Mike Santana was shown in the concourse before he made his entrance through the crowd…
8. Mike Santana vs. Nic Nemeth for the TNA World Championship. McKenzie Mitchell delivered in-ring introductions for the title match. Nemeth handed the trophy to the referee and then stood on the middle rope after being introduced. Santana received a mixed reaction, which was followed by a “Yankees suck” chant.
Santana took offensive control early and worked over Nemeth on the floor. Santana blasted him with a chop by the barricade. Santana set Nemeth near the ring post and went for another chop, but Nic went down to avoid it. Santana ran him into the timekeeper’s area.
Ryan Nemeth showed up and taunted Santana from the ring. Santana entered the ring, but the referee stood in front of him. The referee ejected Ryan. Santana went to the floor, where Nic hit him with the Call Your Shot trophy while the referee was still focused on Ryan, who then headed backstage.
Nic put Santana in a sleeper. Santana, who was bleeding, fired up and had Nick on his shoulders before dropping back, which broke the sleeper hold. Santana eventually went for his Spin the Block finisher, but Nic superkicked him and covered him for a near fall. Nic hit the Danger Zone moments later for a strong near fall.
Nemeth tuned up the band and then threw a superkick at Santana, who drilled him with Spin the Block and covered him for another good near fall. A “this is awesome” chant broke out. Santana went for Spin the Block again, but Nemeth kicked his knee and then superkicked him before going for the pin, only to have Santana kick out at one.
Nemeth threw a fit over Santana kicking out. Santana drilled him with a superkick. Santana went for Spin the Block, but he nearly collapsed. The broadcast team mentioned blood loss. Nemeth hit the Danger Zone and scored the pin.
Nic Nemeth beat Mike Santana in 15:00 to win the TNA World Championship.
Ryan Nemeth ran out with champagne bottles to celebrate with his brother. The Nemeths sprayed and drank champagne. The producer credits listed Carlos Silva, George Veras, Hunter Johnston, Eric Tompkins, Kenny Smith, and Mark Brown. Hannifan closed out the show while Nic stood on the middle rope and held up his title belt while Ryan continued to spray champagne behind him…
Powell’s POV: A good match with a weak finish. I don’t think anyone bought the idea of Santana passing out from blood loss when he really didn’t bleed all that much and looked fine just a few seconds earlier. They finally avoided having a ref bump in the main event, yet they still couldn’t deliver a no-nonsense finish to a TNA World Championship match. I assume that Nemeth’s win means Santana is leaving TNA next month, but we’ll find out soon enough. If so, it’s a huge loss for TNA, as he’s been terrific since he returned to the company.
Overall, this was a strong show with a lot of action crammed into three hours. Slammiversary was newsworthy with title changes, the Uhaa Nation debut, and the TNA Hall of Fame announcements. I appreciate that they went with a three-hour show rather than running long on a night when there are still AEW and NXT shows to come. At least the two PPV dates during NFL season are on nights where the Ravens play the Falcons and the Steelers play the Bengals, so neither should matter much.
