AEW has fined and suspended Britt Baker. Dave Meltzer of WrestlingObserver.com and Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com report that the incident stems from an argument involving Baker and MJF that related to his girlfriend Alicia Atout, who was recently hired as a member of the broadcast team.
Powell’s POV: I was told that Baker complained openly in the women’s locker room about MJF and Will Ospreay getting an hour of television time on a recent Dynamite. The story goes that Atout was in the room and Baker assumed that she shared the story with MJF. I was told that Baker confronted Atout, which later led to an argument involving Baker and MJF. Baker’s suspension is believed to be for two weeks and my understanding is that she was issued a $10,000 fine. The suspension is believed to have started prior to Wednesday’s Dynamite. If it is a two-week suspension, then she would be eligible to appear at the August 14 edition of Dynamite (or perhaps sooner on Collision). AEW explained Baker’s absence from television by having Mercedes Mone claim on Dynamite that she got the EVPs to suspend Baker. I will have a lot more on this story in today’s Dot Net Weekly and Pro Wrestling Boom combo show.
All the crazy, dangerous, unprofessional shit that goes on in AEW and THIS is what gets a fine and suspension?
This is Pro Wrestling lad … not sports entertainment. Anything they do in that ring is cleared in the back and if it isnt theyre getting suspended.
Calling AEW “pro wrestling” is hilarious. It’s a bunch of amateur hacks doing stupid indy stunt shit for an increasingly smaller audience while injuring themselves and others for no reason other than lack of professionalism.
The woke-army wont like this but…
In the old days Undertaker (or other enforcers further back) would have handled this in-house. Now everyone runs to HR.
Also, this is a bit of an issue with a 50/50 (men/women) roster. If a man and a woman have a dispute there is no way to “handle it in the ring.” So now someone complains and someone gets suspended. Feels a little childish (unless there is more to the story than is being reported)
Backstage politics aside, they could have had Mone or her charge jump Baker backstage in a pretape to actually put heat and storyline into their match.
I’m glad wrestling is no longer the days of the Klique ruining people’s careers or Dynamite Kid bullying people.
Can’t imagine what was so heated about the confrontation as to warrant suspension.
Huh. Punk makes comments, Elite confront him, both parties suspended. Jungle Jackoff makes comments, Punk confronts him, both parties suspended. Baker makes comment, Atout runs and tells MJF, MJF confronts Baker, just Baker suspended. Not a Baker fan at all but goddamn, wonder what she said that was so bad it warranted a fine, suspension, and was bad enough that MJF was allowed to confront her with no repercussions…
