–Ross on the WWE No Mercy match order: “Had no issues with the match order especially considering the US Presidential Debate was going to have such a massive FREE, over the air, audience heads up with No Mercy in arguably a better ‘booked’ pro wrestling storyline than most company’s are featuring these days. Thought that putting the WWE Title bout on first and away from the debate helped protect the title. Not sure that AJ needed to use the chair but so be it. Considering that AJ is being positioned as a villain, I understand the use of the chair but IMO the ticket buyers want to cheer Styles and will continue to do so most likely.”
Powell’s POV: Why not give viewers incentive to watch the main event by having it open the show prior to the debate? Makes sense to me. I am surprised that WWE waited until the day of the show to announce this rather than working into the build for the show in the weeks leading up to the event. By the way, hopefully this inspired fans to not only watch the show, but also to stick around long enough that they missed that train wreck of a debate. God help us all.
–Ross on The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler at WWE No Mercy: “Miz vs Ziggler had the match of the night and arguably could have closed the show in a bigger way than was featured but that’s easy to book after the fact. Who knew that the IC title match would be the career best for both men? Hindsight is 20/20 but congrats to Dolph and Mike for busting their ass, telling a good story and for selling! The IC Title match was the Show Stealer!!”
Powell’s POV: Was their match that much better than their past matches or was it better because the fans were engaged because of the stipulation and everything felt like it mattered more? An interesting topic of conversation for this week’s Ross Report podcast?
–Ross on the What Culture Pro Wrestling pay-per-view: “My sincere thanks to all the great people at What Culture Pro Wrestling including James Dixon plus Kenny McIntosh of Inside the Ropes for hosting two, terrific events that Jim Cornette and I thoroughly enjoyed contributing to in our small way. The Wednesday night Q&A in London, with special surprise, unadvertised guest Bret Hart, was a sell out and the crowd was tremendous. The VIP meet/greets were off the page in London as were the reactions of the audience for our presentation. We are blessed to be in a business where fans still care about history and respect those that have contributed in a variety of ways and over a long period of time. to the genre. I’m always proud to say that I am a pro wrestling fan and unabashedly so.”
