HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” featured a 23-minute segment on how WWE treats its wrestlers. Watch the full segment on the Last Week Tonight Youtube Page. [Thanks to Dot Net Member David Owens]

Powell’s POV: Host John Oliver noted that he is a fan of pro wrestling to start and then addressed premature deaths, Vince McMahon’s character using a racial slur on the air, and then focused on the company’s wrestlers being labeled as independent contractors rather than employees. Oliver also took aim at WWE’s schedule, the talent contracts, wrestlers working through injuries, and even Roman Reigns being booed despite being cast as a babyface as an example of how passionate pro wrestling fans are. Oliver isn’t the first to bring up these issues, but the fact that he did so on a high profile platform offers some small hope that the company will eventually be pressured into making significant changes.

  1. Wow. What a strong piece. I don’t think it was a coincidence how Linda was in the headlines last week leaving whatever post she was in.
