Daniel Bryan commented on his contractual status with WWE during an interview with BusinessTimes.com. “The wrestling world is an interesting world right now,” Bryan said. “But I love working with WWE and my wife (Brie Bella) is a part of WWE and so there’s a good chance I’ll re-sign.” Read more at Businesstimes.com.sg.

Powell’s POV: Bryan’s deal with WWE expires on September 1 and it’s very interesting that he had not re-signed by the time the interview was conducted. WWE has been advertising him for live events and the big Australian stadium show that will occur after his deal expires. If he remains unsigned today (the interview was conducted earlier this month), Bryan may have even more leverage if WWE officials are steaming over Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling running Madison Square Garden on April 6. For that matter, it’s possible that we see Bryan work MSG on April 6. Bryan is the first of the big names with expiring contracts followed by Cody, the Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega in early 2019.

  1. I wonder how big of a deal it would be mainstream wise for WWE if Bryan left to do whatever else.

For certain it would be a huge deal to the Harder core wrestling fans that follow it on the Internet. NO question. I just wonder what he brings to the table for the more casual fans. Maybe a lot, I’m genuinely wondering.
