Jeff Jarrett appeared on the “Down and Dirty with Dutch Mantell” podcast and was asked about how WWE approached him about entering the Hall of Fame. “I got a text, it was on a Sunday morning, early January,” Jarrett said. “It said, ‘Can you talk for about five minutes?’ I said sure to this high ranking WWE official who will remain nameless at this time. I don’t know if I’m supposed to discuss this guy’s name…

“To say I was shocked would be an understatement. All in about 60 seconds it was wrestling maybe at it’s best. I was shocked, I was grateful, very humbled, I was scratching my head. It was surreal. It was really a surreal moment. It’s no secret in 2017 I had some ups, I probably had more downs than I had ups, both personally and professionally, so early January 2018 to get that call it was a shock. I’m still sort of mesmerized by the whole deal.” Listen to the full podcast at MLWradio.com.

Powell’s POV: Jarrett sounds genuinely touched by the WWE Hall of Fame induction and I’m looking forward to hearing his speech on April 6. Jarrett and Mantell looked back on his early days in pro wrestling when they first met, and the Jarrett family history in the industry, and his current relationship with his father Jerry Jarrett. Jeff said he believes his father will be present when he is inducted. Meanwhile, Jarrett stated that the longest that he and Mantell have gone without working together over the years is roughly two or two-and-a-half years. Mantell is a riot and would be a great choice to induct Jarrett, but it’s been a WWE call and one would think that Brian James is a strong candidate given his friendship with Jarrett. For that matter, here’s hoping that WWE will eventually give the HOF nod to Mantell given his long history in the industry, which includes a recent run as Zeb Colter in WWE.
