Cody “Stardust” Rhodes (a/k/a Cody Runnels) announced via Twitter that he asked for his release from WWE on Saturday. “The past ten years have been quite the trek, but as of earlier today I have asked for my release from @WWE,” Rhodes wrote on his Twitter page. “I’ll speak further on the matter shortly. Thank you to all the pro-wrestling/sports entertainment fans worldwide. Thank you.”
Powell’s POV: The news is surprising in the sense that Cody and his family have worked for WWE for so long. His wife Eden Stiles (a/k/a Brandi Runnels) works as a ring announcer, and his brother Dustin plays the Goldust character. Of course, his late father Dusty also worked for the company for many years. Cody will turn 31 next month and I’m anxious to see what his future plans are in terms of whether he plans to wrestle or pursues a career outside the pro wrestling industry. It’s worth noting that his wife retweeted Cody’s tweets and then wrote, “Could not be any prouder or more supportive.”
