AEW Collision (Episode 109)
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at 2300 Arena
Simulcast live September 6, 2025, on TNT and HBO Max
[Hour One] Tony Schiavone welcomed viewers to the show while ring announcer Arkady Aura stood in the ring. Nigel McGuinness was on color commentary… Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir made their entrance through a backstage area. Shafir slapped Moxley before they headed to the ring through the crowd. Daniel Garcia’s entrance followed…
1. Jon Moxley (w/Marina Shafir) vs. Daniel Garcia. Matt Menard sat in on commentary. Garcia applied a Figure Four around the ring post. Once he released the hold, Shafir offered to help him up. Shafir pulled him up and jawed at him. The referee scolded Shafir while Garcia started to return to the ring. Moxley used the distraction to dropkick Garcia off the apron before a picture-in-picture break. [C]
Garcia had a run of offense and then put Moxley in the Dragon Slayer. Garcia wrenched back. Moxley teased tapping out before he crawled to reach the bottom rope, which broke the hold. A “this is awesome” chant broke out.
After jawing at one another, Moxley suplexed Garcia over the top rope, and both wrestlers tumbled to the floor. Back in the ring, Moxley and Garcia traded strikes. Garcia caught Moxley in a pin for a two count, and then Moxley reversed it and got the three count…
Jon Moxley defeated Daniel Garcia in 16:40.
Garcia was emotional after taking another loss. Shafir stood next to Mendard while Moxley headed backstage. Shafir applauded Garcia and then headed to the back. Menard tried to comfort Garcia, only to be pushed away.
Tony Schiavone tried to interview Garcia. Schiavone recalled Garcia saying he wouldn’t make the same mistake, yet credited him with another great performance. Garcia took the mic and mocked the line about it being another great performance. He said that when he falls, he gets back up, just like the fans. “It’s been a really good five years,” Garcia said. “But sometimes good isn’t good enough.” Garica dropped the mic and headed to the back with Menard…
Powell’s POV: Has Garcia considered ditching the dead weight of having his own personal color commentary? Anyway, this was another strong match with the same expected outcome. I like that they are telling a story with Garcia, but it’s time to move it forward.
Highlights aired from the Dynamite main event and the post-match Kenny Omega injury angle…
Schiavone announced AEW World Champion Hangman Page vs. Josh Alexander in a grudge match on Dynamite. Schiavone and McGuinness hyped the previously advertised Collision matches… [C]
Big Bill and Bryan Keith delivered a backstage promo. Bill said his life hit rock bottom in the 2300 Arena. He said the fans mocked him and laughed at him. He said the Philadelphia fans showed their true colors.
Bill said Philadelphia is where players spit on opponents, steal foul balls from children, and have a statue for their only hero, who is a fictional character. Keith echoed each of those jabs at the Philly fans.
Bill said he comes from a place where real tough guys are made – New York City. Bill said there’s another guy from NYC who claims to be a tough guy, but he hasn’t heard from him or seen him in a long time. “I’m officially calling you out… Eddie Kingston.” Bill said…
Powell’s POV: Kingston has been out since he suffered a major knee injury in May 2024. I’m definitely looking forward to his return.
2. “FTR” Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler (w/Stokely Hathaway) vs. Adam Priest and Tommy Billington. The entrances for both teams were televised. Harwood and Wheeler hit Priest with a double clothesline before a PIP break. [C]
The babyfaces had a nice run of offense that was capped off with a double headbutt on Harwood. Wheeler shoved one of the babyfaces into the pin to break it. FTR came back and hit the Power & Glory spot, which led to Harwood pinning Priest.
“FTR” Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler defeated Adam Priest and Tommy Billington in 12:30.
After the match, Hathaway entered the ring with a mic and was greeted with “Shut the f— up” chants. Hathaway said there were two more weeks until the end of Adam Copeland and Christian at AEW All Out…
Powell’s POV: A nice television match. There was no mystery regarding the outcome, but FTR did their thing by making the babyfaces look good in defeat.
An Outrunners video aired. They were in the woods wearing military helmets, camo, and leather vests. They spotted two of Dalton Castle’s boys and asked what the hell they were. Castle stood on a fallen tree and asked, “What they hell are you?” Castle did the bro handshake with one of the Outrunners and said, “Let’s go break some hearts”…
Schiavone hyped the eight-woman tag for after the break… [C]
Jon Moxley delivered a promo in a parking area outside the venue. Moxley questioned what he has that Darby Allin wants to take away from him. He said belts are a measurement for small thinking. Moxley said when he saw Allin climb Mount Everest, he hoped he realized what he was trying to do. Moxley said he would like nothing more than to have Allin standing at his side. Moxley said Allin won’t go away, so he’ll do it himself. Moxley said Allin is a problem that he will solve. “At All Out, I’m going to put you in the ground,” Moxley said…
Schiavone repeated Moxley’s final line and told viewers to remember those words…
Powell’s POV: So we’re getting the AEW equivalent of a Buried Alive match? Jack Perry and Christian Cage had a match called “The Final Burial” that was basically a casket match with the casket on the stage next to some dirt and a shovel. I’m not sure if that’s what they have in mind for Moxley vs. Allin or if they have come up with something different.
The Triangle of Fear and Megan Bayne made their entrances.
[Hour Two] Harley Cameron and Kris Statlander came out together, and then Mina Shirakawa and Toni Storm made separate entrances…
3. AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm, Mina Shriakawa, Harley Cameron, and Kris Statlander vs. Megan Bayne and “The Triangle of Madness” Thekla, Julia Hart, and Skye Blue in an all-star eight-woman tag team match. Everyone was banned from ringside. Wheeler Yuta came out before the match and said he had a little advice for Statlander. Yuta made his exit because of the match stipulation. Bayne hit Shirakawa with a clothesline from the middle rope going into a PIP break. [C]
Cameron shoved Bayne into the ring post and then applied a sleeper. Bayne backed into a post to break the hold. In the ring, Hart caught Statlander in a pin for a two count. Statlander came right back with a face plant and then pinned Hart. Schiavone said Statlander used Yuta’s move.
Toni Storm, Mina Shriakawa, Harley Cameron, and Kris Statlander beat Megan Bayne, Thekla, Julia Hart, and Skye Blue in 13:10 in an all-star eight-woman tag match.
After the match, the Triangle of Madness got the better of Storm. Shirakawa fought them off initially, but their numbers advantage caught up with her. Thekla speared Shirkawa. Hart and Blue held Storm. Thekla did her spider pose for reasons that only make sense to her, and then entrance music interrupted her.
Jamie Hayter came out and put down Hart and Blue at ringside. In the ring, Hayter hit Thekla with a backbreaker. Hart and Blue pulled Thekla out of the ring. Hayter offered to help Storm to her feet, but Storm stood up and looked apprehensive. Hayter said she was just trying to help. Statlander entered the ring and tried to play peacemaker.
Storm got the microphone and asked the fans, Hayter, and Statlander if they wanted to get nuts. “Let’s get bloody ballistic,” Storm said. She pointed at Statlander, Hayter, and Thekla, and indicated that she wants to face them all at All Out…
An Ace Austin video package aired. He said he has everything to prove and gain in AEW. He said he’s one of the most creative, innovative, and dynamic wrestlers today. He boasted that he was recruited into Bullet Club…
Powell’s POV: Yeah, Ace, you and like 100 other guys joined Bullet Club over the years. I enjoy Austin’s work, and I’m happy they are trying to introduce him to unfamiliar fans, but this was underwhelming.
Lexi Nair interviewed Juice Robinson and Austin Gunn in a backstage area. Austin acknowledged the injuries to his brother and Jay White. He said he couldn’t keep saying Gunns Up when they are down. Robinson said they needed to get rid of the cardboard cutouts of Colten and White, and figure out what to do… [C]
A video package aired on Mercedes Mone vs. Riho. Mone spoke about working with Riho’s trainer, Emi Sakura. A graphic listed Mone and Sakura vs. Riho and Alex Windsor…
McGuinness ran through the lineup for AEW All Out. Allin vs. Moxley will have a Coffin Match…
Tony Schiavone stood in the ring and introduced TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher and Don Callis, who came out with Josh Alexander. Schiavone spoke about Mark Briscoe getting a shot at the TNT Title, but Callis cut him off and took the mic.
Callis said Fletcher is everything he wanted Kenny Omega to be and more. Callis said Fletcher put Omega out for good and pulled the punk card on Hangman Page. Callis praised Alexander for having the babyfaces right where he wanted them during the eight-man tag match on Dynamite.
Alexander spoke while the fans chanted “shut the f— up” again. Alexander said he and Page have history. He recalled facing Page when he first arrived in AEW. He said Page got the better of him that night, but he’s not the same man anymore. He said he would run through Page for himself and his family.
Fletcher said he would step up and fill the shoes of Omega, Swerve Strickland, and Will Ospreay. Fletcher spoke about simultaneously holding the TNT Championship and the AEW World Championship. Fletcher challenged Page to give him a title shot at AEW All Out. Fletcher said Page should accept the challenge or he’d put him on the injured list like Omega…
Powell’s POV: I’m really high on Fletcher and see him as a future world champion. I’m sure he and Page can have a very good match, but I don’t think they can sell the masses on Fletcher as a threat to beat Page for the AEW World Championship in just two weeks.
A vignette aired with the Hologram clone that ended with “soon” on the screen…
Nair spoke with Hologram, Tomohiro Ishii, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong. O’Reilly said we finally did it, we’re cloning luchadors. Strong yelled Kyle’s name (remember when that was fun?) and took issue with O’Reilly teaming with Ishii recently. O’Reilly said something about Ishii going back to Japan and said there’s no name-calling in The Conglomeration… [C]
Lexi Nair interviewed Anthony Bowens in the parking area. He recalled going to a movie premiere and said he would be in a home run derby next week. Jerry Lynn interrupted and put over Bowens’ accomplishments. Lynn said Bowens went from the top of the top to the bottom of the top. Lynn told Bowens to take a look in the mirror and figure out what’s missing…
Powell’s POV: Anthony, please don’t look in that mirror and convince yourself that you are missing Billy Gunn.
Entrances for the main event took place…
4. Konosuke Takeshita vs. Mark Briscoe. Don Callis sat in on commentary. Schiavone played up that a Briscoe win would set him up with a TNT Title match. Schiavone sent the match to a commercial break, but they didn’t actually go to a break. Briscoe suplexed Takeshita and covered him for a two count. They went to a PIP break while Callis was talking. Awkward. [C]
Takeshita took out Briscoe with a flip dive from the ring to the floor. Briscoe came back once they were back in the ring. Briscoe sent Takeshita to ringside and then hit him with a Blockbuster off the apron. Briscoe threw Takeshita back inside the ring and hit him with a basement lariat for a two count. Both men were down heading into another PIP break. [C]
Briscoe went up top for Froggy Bow, but Takeshita got up and joined him on the ropes. Briscoe hit a sunset bomb. Briscoe went up top again and went for Froggy Bow, but Takeshita put his knees up.
Schiavone announced that Shelton Benjamin vs. Ricochet was added to the lineup for Wednesday’s Dynamite.
Briscoe and Takeshita jockeyed for position, with Briscoe going for a Jay Driller, but Takeshita countered into a tombstone piledriver and then hit a German suplex for a two count. Takeshita showed frustration over not getting the pin.
Briscoe battled back and went to the ropes, but Takeshita cut him off again. Takeshita set up for a superplex. Briscoe fought him off by biting his head and then hitting him with a few headbutts that knocked him off the ropes. Don Callis climbed on the apron to distract the referee while Briscoe was on the top rope.
MJF showed up at ringside and shoved Briscoe off the ropes. Takeshita blasted Briscoe with a knee strike. Schiavone said MJF just got married last night and questioned what he was doing there. Takeshita hit Briscoe with his finisher and scored the pin.
Konosuke Takeshita defeated Mark Briscoe in 18:00.
[Overrun] After the match, MJF entered the ring and threw punches at Briscoe. Takeshita took exception to MJF entering the ring and shoved him. Callis quickly intervened and got Takeshita to leave the ring. Briscoe tackled MJF. They traded punches on the mat until security pulled them apart.
MJF left the ring and got a microphone. He called Briscoe a white trash piece of shit and told him to name the time, place, match, and stipulation. MJF said it won’t matter because Briscoe’s ass will be his. MJF put the mic in the ring because he wanted a response.
Briscoe said MJF messed up. He said the match would take place at All Out. Briscoe said he had a lot of crazy shit going through his head, so he would get back to him about the stipulation. Briscoe told MJF that he signed his own death warrant…
Powell’s POV: A 2300 Arena honeymoon? That Alicia Atout is one lucky gal! Anyway, I don’t think anyone who was aware of the wedding taking place on Friday expected to see MJF appear tonight, so that was fun. The main event was a strong match. The thing working against it was Fletcher challenging Page to an AEW World Championship match earlier in the show, which made it pretty obvious that Briscoe wasn’t going to beat Takeshita to earn a TNT Title match.
Overall, the bookend matches carried the show, and the pay-per-view match developments and Big Bill calling out Eddie Kingston helped make it feel more newsworthy than usual. I’m filling in for Will Pruett tonight and next week, so I will have more to say in my same-night audio review of Collision, which will be available exclusively for Dot Net Members (including our Patreon patrons). Bring on Sunday football!

Toni Storm with the Andre the Giant singlet.
