The leading contenders for the WWE Smackdown television rights are Fox, Facebook, and Amazon, according to Variety.com. The new story follows the HollywoodReporter.com report that Raw will be staying with NBCU for nearly three times the price of the current deal.

Powell’s POV: The story also notes the possibility of moving the show to WWE Network. That seems unlikely to me given the type of money the company can generate from the television rights deal. WWE has previously stated that they will announce their new deal sometime between now and September. Their current deal with NBCU runs through September 2019.

  1. If it goes to fox I would imagine that it will air on the fx network, although they have many channels to choose from. It would be the best (at least for me as a fan) if they moved SD to mondays so we can have a return to the Monday night wars.

  2. Call me old fashioned but I’d love to see Smackdown Saturdays at 5:05 on TBS. Perfect timeslot for all ages especially young adults who can catch the show before heading out for the evening. Also airing just 24 hours before a ppv they can much better build it up.

  3. NO WAY they move it to fadebook or the WWE network for no other reason other than what Jason mentioned, and that’s revenue dollars from advertising. NO way they let go of that huge amount of influx of $$$.
