Richmond, Virginia at the Richmond Coliseum

The upper bowls were empty. The arena was maybe half full, perhaps 3,000 or so, but not sure. It’s interesting that there were no women on the show at all, probably practicing for their Royal Rumble match tomorrow. Charlotte was advertised in the local ads.

Byron Saxton was the ring announcer.

1. The Usos defeated Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston to retain the Smackdown Tag Titles. Both teams were cheered. Some comedy early but once it got serious the Usos worked as heels. The Usos won with the top rope splash. No string of false finishes like on PPV but a good match.

2. Sami Zayn beat Sin Cara. Good match. Zayn got a lot of heat and did a great job working the ringside fans. Zayn won with Blue Thunder Bomb.

3. Breezeango beat Rusev and Aiden English. Rusev was cheered but his team worked as the heels during the match. Surprisingly, Fandango pinned English.

4. Bobby Roode over Jinder Mahal to retain the U.S. Championship. Both guys got strong reactions for their entrances. Nothing wrong but a pretty basic match. Roode won with the implant DDT.

Intermission

5. Zack Ryder beat Mojo Rawley.

6. Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Baron Corbin. Nakamura got a great reaction. The match was pretty basic. Nakamura won with the Kinshasa.

7. AJ Styles defeated Kevin Owens in a cage match to retain the WWE Championship. Styles got the biggest reaction of the night. Owens worked a regular match and didn’t seem to be protecting himself with his injury. Good match. The finish was Styles climbing out the cage at the same time Owens was going out the door, and Styles kicked the door in Owens’ face from the outside and jumped out.
