Gutteridge’s NXT Hit List: No Way Jose vs. Elias Samson, Tyler Bate vs. Oney Lorcan, Ember Moon vs. Aliyah, Corey Graves video, and Takeover: San Antonio Fallout

By Darren Gutteridge

NXT Hits

Tyler Bate vs. Oney Lorcan: A nice showcase of Bate for anybody who didn’t see the UK Title Tournament. He’ll have to be kept warm somehow before the UK show starts, so having him and some of the other stars of the tournament pop up in NXT in the meantime is a good idea. Hopefully it will lead to some enjoyable matches and character building.

Corey Graves video: An unexpected treat. Graves has come on leaps and bounds over his time on NXT commentary, and added that much needed cool factor to main roster booth. His teaming with Tom Phillips is perhaps the best combination in WWE, so hopefully in a few years they find a way to team them back up on weekly TV again. As happy as I am for Graves, I am perhaps even more devastated that he is being replaced by Nigel McGuinness. I thought ditching ROH coverage would mean no more McGuinness in my life. This wasn’t the plan!

No Way Jose vs. Elias Samson: This match gets a minor Hit for holding my attention more than I anticipated it would. The match wasn’t a classic, but considering how toxic Samson can be to the concept of enjoyment, I’ll take it.

NXT Misses

Ember Moon vs. Aliyah: I think I’m past my tipping point with Ember Moon’s holding pattern. This match was OK, but it wasn’t a statement win. It was instead a fairly even match with a few awkward spots, which we’ve seen a lot of in the past few months. Thank the Lord they finally seem to be putting us on the path to Moon vs. Asuka at the next Takeover.
