WWE Smackdown Live
Lake Charles, Louisiana
Report by Dot Net reader Nicholas Cannella

Tonight WWE had a Monday Night SmackDown house show and the card did change several times leading up to the show. For the past month it was advertised AJ Styles vs. John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose in a Triple Threat for the WWE Title, and The Wyatt Family vs American Alpha for the Smackdown Tag Titles. Last week, the main event was changed to Styles vs Cena vs Ambrose vs Ziggler in a Fatal 4-Way for the WWE Title. Due to Ambrose winning the IC title last week on SD Live and with Corbin now being apart of the title picture, the card was changed tonight during the actual event (as always the card is subject to change) and here is what went down.

1. Dean Ambrose defeated Dolph Ziggler to retain the Intercontinental Title. Ambrose won following Dirty Deeds to retain the IC Title. A great opening match with lots of action and near falls, Ziggler was playing his new heel role, and received a mixed reaction while Ambrose was fan favorite.

2. Kalisto defeated Curt Hawkins. Kalisto following the Salida De La Sol. Hawkins grabbed the mic and stated he will not leave this town a loser and challenged anyone in the back. This led to James Ellsworth answering the challenge.

3. James Ellsworth defeated Curt Hawkins. Ellsworth won following a No Chin Music in less than ten seconds.

It was announced that the main event would be AJ Styles vs John Cena vs Baron Corbin in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship.

4. Rhyno, Heath Slater, The Usos, Jack Swagger, and Mojo Rawley defeated The Vaudevillians, The Ascension, Tyler Breeze, and Fandango. Rhyno pinned Simon Gotch after hitting the spear. The Usos played as a face team again.

5. Nikki Bella defeated Natalya. At the end, Carmella attempted to interfere, but Nikki knocked her off the ring apron. Nikki won following the Rack Attack 2.0.

6. Alexa Bliss defeated Becky Lynch to retain the SmackDown Woman’s Championship. Bliss won with a small package and hand full of tights to retain. Afterward, Becky knocked down Bliss and raised her title.

7. American Alpha and Apollo Crews defeated Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper. Chad Gable pinned Harper after a Grand Amplitude. Alpha and Crews received a good reaction, but the Wyatt Family were really over during their ring entrance. As usual, Randy Orton had a huge pop, and he hit the RKO out of nowhere on Crews late in the match.

8. AJ Styles defeated John Cena and Baron Corbin in a Triple Threat to retain the WWE Championship. Cena hit the AA on Corbin, but Styles nailed Cena with a low blow and rolled him up for the win. Afterward, Styles grabbed the mic and stated he is “the face that runs the place and still the WWE World Champion.” Cena gave Him the AA to send the crowd home happy. A great main event with lots of back and fourth action. Cena was really over and Styles received a good mixed reaction, while Corbin had the most heat.

Overall a solid show, and The Civic Center was half full .
