Moore’s Lucha Underground Hit List: Matanza sells for the first time, AeroStar vs. Drago, final first round match in the Trios Tournament

Lucha Underground Hits

Mil Muertes vs. Matanza Cueto: Even though this was Matanza’s best match yet, it was mostly due to how vicious Mil Muertes is and has been. There was a major fear looming in the air that Mil would meet the same fate that the rest of the Lucha Underground main eventers have at the hands of Matanza in a passing of the torch moment that no one wanted. Thank goodness they kept Mil looking strong, but on the same coin, Matanza looks weak and useless. Dario Cueto is the only thing redeeming this act. Hopefully the roof spot keeps Matanza away so we can get solid Lucha Underground main events going forward.

Fenix, Jack Evans, and PJ Black vs. The Disciples of Death: The Disciples of death are still weak putty patrollers, but at this point that’s all they are good for. This year’s “Wild card” tag team looked odd on paper with three different personalities but they found a way to make it work. Jack Evans was the star of this trio with his heel antics to his own teammates and comedy moments when he finally gets in the ring. While it’s a shame Fenix got punted out of the main event, he provided the solid wrestling in this match. As far as athleticism, this team also rivals Team Rey Mysterio and it will be cool to see them mix it up next week. As for the disciples, in true Lucha Underground fashion, we got two murders with the purple guy powering himself up with the beating hearts of the gold and silver guy. It’s intriguing to say the least.

AeroStar vs. Drago: These two have had five matches in a row before this one and it still isn’t old. The framing of AeroStar and Drago being eternal rivals make it so that this feud never gets old; and their creativity in the ring glues eyes to the television. Drago picks up a lot of loses on his end, but he’s teflon at this point. AeroStar is making his return this season and needed a good win to establish him at the upper mid-card.

Lucha Underground Misses

None: If the Matanza match sucked, that would have gotten this spot again, but it wasn’t that bad. This was the fun weekly Lucha Underground episode that we were used to on a weekly basis from last season. They also did a good job hyping next week’s episode with Cage in a Cage and the Trios finals.
