Evolve 128
May 11, 2019 in Indianapolis, Indiana at Southside Turners
Report by Dot Net reader Bob Garver

1. Anthony Greene beat Steven Pena. The highlight was a 360 cross body block from the top rope (not the top turnbuckle, the top rope) by Greene, continues to justify his WWN contract, while Pena is denied a contract.

2. Adrian Jaoude beat Harlem Bravado. The highlight was Jaoude’s back heel kick. Jaoude continues his undefeated streak in Evolve. Bravado continues to come up short.

3. Leon Ruff beat Brandon Taggart, Juntai, Stephen Wolf in a four-way freestyle. Wolfe’s Tope Con Hilo over the top rope was the highlight of the match. Ruff continues to show up the lesser members of The Skulk. Taggart, Juntai, and Wolf end this weekend winless.

4. Babatunde defeated Liam Gray. The highlight was Babatunde, from the floor, chopping the chest of Gray, who standing on the apron. Babatunde remains an unstoppable big man. Members of the Skulk other than Fox and Ruff continue to have a hard time.

5. Curt Stallion beat Ace Perry. Stallion performed a Kamikaze Headbutt at one point. Roster guy Stallion justified his contract. Perry lost, but looked good.

6. Austin Theory beat Spyder Nate Webb to retain the Evolve Championship. The highlight was an over-the-head chairshot by Webb while both men are brawling through the crowd. Theory fended off Webb in what was probably a one-weekend-only appearance.

7. Shotzi Blackheart defeated Natalia Markova. A cannonball by Shotzi was the highlight of the match. Shotzi makes the case for why she deserves a WWN contract, to join lone female roster member Brandi Lauren. By the way, Lauren attacked Shotzi after the match and the two had a pull-apart brawl that was much more exciting than the match that preceded it.

8. Kassius Ohno beat Josh Briggs. The highlight was both men kicking each other in the head simultaneously, which made for the only “This is Awesome!” chant of the evening. Ohno picked up a win to mitigate his loss in the tag match last night. Briggs has to be wondering if he came back from injury too early.

9. “The Unwanted” Eddie Kingston and Joe Gacy defeated “The Work Horsemen” JD Drake and Anthony Henry to retain the Evolve Tag Team Championship. Drake hit a moonsault, accidentally taking out his own partner Henry at one point in the highlight of the match. The Work Horsemen take another step toward dissolving, with Henry shoving Drake after the match, the two men arguing, and Henry walking out. But I don’t think this counts as an official breakup.

10. Adam Cole beat AR Fox. The highlight was Cole hip-tossing Fox back first onto the apron. Cole gained momentum going into his NXT Championship match against Johnny Gargano.

Final Thoughts: All the matches on this show were highly predictable and the crowd never got out of second gear – save for the main event where they sounded like what I expect of an Evolve crowd. I’m sorry to say that this was not a particularly memorable show.
