Dreamwave Pro Wrestling “Eve of Destruction”

This show was recently released on IWTV. LaSalle is roughly an hour’s drive west of Chicago. The lights were on and it’s easy to see. They always sell out this small KOC Hall with about 300-350 fans. Gage Bright and Kyle Fields provided commentary.
* There was an all-women’s “Uprising” show here on Friday, which I previously reviewed. Many of those wrestlers are back here tonight! They are claiming this is a “random draw” show, so any match can happen, and no one knows who is stepping out of the back. They even had a dealer “drawing cards,” and they were alerting wrestlers in the back to come out. ALSO, we have several Japanese talents here!
1. Christian Rose vs. Laynie Luck vs. AMB vs. 12-Gaige vs. Channing Thomas for the Dreamwave Alternative Title. AMB is fairly talented and reminds me a lot of NJPW’s Callum Newman, but shorter. All five fought at the bell. AMB and 12-Gaige traded rollups in the ring. Laynie nearly pinned them both! Rose and Channing traded chops, and Thomas hit a leg lariat to the jaw at 2:30. Laynie hit a superkick on Thomas on the floor. AMB hit a flip dive to the floor. 12-Gaige hit a top-rope crossbody block to the floor onto all four opponents.
In the ring, 12-Gaige hit a stunner on Laynie, then a German Suplex on Channing. 12-Gaige hit a Michinoku driver on AMB at 5:00. Rose hit some Yes Kicks on 12-Gaige and AMB. Laynie hit overhand chops on Rose. Channing hit a sliding German Suplex on Rose at 6:30, then a top-rope flying double clothesline. Luck hit a tornado DDT on Thomas. She hit a slingshot double stomp to 12-Gaige’s chest. Channing hit a deadlift superplex on Laynie. Rose hit a Styles Clash on Channing, dropping him on AMB. However, AMB got a flash rollup to pin Rose! New champion!
AMB defeated Christian Rose, Laynie Luck, 12-Gaige, and Channing Thomas to win the Dreamwave Alternative Title at 7:46.
* Rose put the belt around AMB’s waist and shook his hand. AMB was crying. (I genuinely wonder if Rose surprised him by not kicking out and allowing AMB to score the pin. This feels like genuine shock from AMB that he won. If not, well, it’s some pretty good acting, then.)
2. Brittnie Brooks vs. Sydney Bakabella. Brooks wore white-and-blue again — it feels wrong to not see her in pink! Bakabella wore his long Flair-like black robe. Underneath, he wore his Andre-style one-strap black singlet. Of course, he has the height and overall size advantage. She slapped him and yelled at him at the bell. He vanished to the back… and came back wearing a dress! He hit a clothesline. The “Milkshake” song was playing in the background. He repeatedly rammed her head into a turnbuckle. Lots of silliness. Brooks hit a low-blow uppercut, got a handful of dress(!!) and got the tainted pin.
Brittnie Brooks defeated Sydney Bakabella at 4:13.
3. Anye Rune and Rebecca J. Scott vs. Ranna Yagami and Fuwa Chan. Again, Ranna has shorter, lighter brown hair. Chan wears light blue and bright pink, and she came out to some infectious pop music. Chan opened against Rune. They traded some reversals and had a standoff. Chan hit a missile dropkick at 1:00 and a powerslam for a nearfall. Ranna entered, and she hit a stiff kick to Rune’s back, then one to the chest. RJS got in and traded roundhouse kicks with Ranna.
Rune hit a flying back elbow on Ranna. The Japanese stars hit a stereo suplex on Rune for a nearfall at 4:00. Ranna hit a roundhouse kick on RJS, then an enzuigiri for a nearfall. Chan hit a suplex on Rune for a nearfall at 5:30. Rune tied Chan in a sleeper hold. Out of the back came Brittnie Brooks! Brooks and RJS jawed at each other. Rune hit her Anime-style palm strike and pinned Chan. Fun but much shorter than I expected.
Anye Rune and Rebecca J. Scott defeated Ranna Yagami and Fuwa Chan at 6:32.
* Heel manager Zeke Zshe came to the ring with two bald security guards. They all wore white suits. He cut a heel promo, but it was really hard to hear, and it had a bad echo. Zeke’s security passed around a collection basket. This was an utterly pointless segment.
4. Kody Lane vs. Maggie Lee. She matches him in height, but he’s much thicker, and he easily threw her to the mat at the bell. The commentators noted that Kody is on a losing streak here. Lane easily scooped Maggie up and bodyslammed her. Maggie responded with a running Blockbuster. He hit a senton for a nearfall at 1:30. Kody planted his foot in Lee’s throat. He applied a full nelson and spun her around several times before tossing her.
Kody pulled back on her wrists and pushed his foot into her spine, then he hit a back suplex for a nearfall at 4:00. Maggie fired up and hit some punches. She tried a crossbody block, but he caught her, hit a fallaway slam, then another senton for a nearfall. He hit a third senton for a nearfall. He went for a second-rope superplex, but she rotated and landed on top and got a nearfall at 6:30. Maggie hit a huracanrana and she was fired up!
Maggie hit a running cannonball from the apron to the floor, crashing onto Kody. In the ring, she hit a top-rope crossbody block. Kody missed a senton, and she immediately hit a Code Red for a nearfall at 8:30. She missed a Swanton Bomb, and Lane immediately hit a piledriver for a nearfall. She got an inside cradle for a nearfall. He hit a running kick, but he missed his one-legged Lionsault. She immediately rolled him up for the flash pin! That was easily the best match so far.
Maggie Lee defeated Kody Lane at 10:04.
5. Stephen Wolf vs. Bobby Orlando in a no-DQ match. Wolf carried his Tag Title belt. They each had a kendo stick, and they clanged them together. Bobby hit a standing neckbreaker. He swung the kendo stick and missed, but he eventually hit some blows to Wolf’s ribs. Bobby set up for a dive at 1:30, but Wolf cut him off with a kendo stick blow. Wolf repeatedly struck Bobby with the cane. Wolf grabbed Bobby’s stupid stuffed goat and turned babyface in my eyes by striking the toy a few times with the kendo stick.
Wolf hit a DDT out of the ropes for a nearfall at 4:30. He hit a few more strikes with the kendo stick. Bobby finally got his hands on a kendo stick, and he repeatedly struck Wolf with it. Bobby hit his Athena-style flying stunner for a believable nearfall at 6:00 – that’s a rare kickout of that move! Wolf hit a low-blow punt kick, then his pop-up flipping stunner for a believable nearfall. Wolf chased off the ref! Orlando lifted the kendo stick to crotch Wolf at 7:30, and they were both down. While holding the kendo stick, Bobby hit a second-rope elbow drop for the pin. That was fast-and-furious action.
Bobby Orlando defeated Stephen Wolf in a no-DQ match at 8:31.
6. B3cca vs. Syuri. International pop star B3cca sang her top radio hit “Hot Bod” on the way to the ring. Stardom’s Syuri competed in New Texas Pro a week earlier. An intense lockup to open, and they tied each other up on the mat. B3cca applied a Muta Lock at 3:00. Syuri hit a stiff kick to the spine and a double-underhook suplex for a nearfall. She grapevined B3cca’s left leg and kept her grounded. B3cca hit a hard clothesline for a nearfall at 5:00. She planted her foot in Syuri’s throat, and she jawed at the fans.
Syuri hit a Lungblower to the back at 6:30 and a running knee, then a DDT for a nearfall. Syuri hit a German Suplex, so B3cca hit one for a nearfall, and they were both down at 8:30. Syuri hit some forearm strikes and a spin kick, and they were both down. B3cca hit a shotgun dropkick into the corner, then a TKO stunner for a nearfall at 10:30. B3cca missed a second-rope moonsault. Syuri immediately hit a running knee. She applied a mid-ring Figure Four, but B3cca reached the ropes at 12:00.
B3cca snapped Syuri’s arm across the top rope, and she hit a top-rope 450 Splash for a believable nearfall. B3cca was in disbelief that she didn’t win there, and the crowd was all over the ref. Syuri hit a hard knee lift to the gut. B3cca hit a Pump Kick for a believable nearfall. Syuri hit a Lungblower to the chest. B3cca hit a superkick. Syuri hit a jumping knee for a nearfall at 14:00. She hit a second jumping knee for a believable nearfall. Syuri nailed a buzzsaw kick to the side of the head, and she locked in a Stretch Muffler and pulled back on B3cca’s legs until she tapped out. That was awesome.
Syuri defeated B3cca at 14:37.
7. Joiya Blake vs. Rachel Ley vs. Anna Ray vs. Brody Dahl. Everyone in this is fairly new. Ley was a collegiate gymnast, and she’s been really impressive in matches across the country this year. Brody is the punk rocker who reminds me a bit of the greatly missed Daffney, or a bit like Ruby Riot. Anna was flirting with the ref, so he missed some early cover attempts. The other women got angry with Anna, and they all kicked her to the floor! Joiya hit a basement dropkick. Brody went for a cover, but Rachel broke it up. Rachel hit a cartwheel-into-a-clothesline in the corner at 1:30. She hit a Finlay Roll on Dahl for a nearfall.
Ley hit a top-rope crossbody block on all three opponents. Brody hit a DDT on Rachel. Anna hit a stunner across the top rope at 3:30. Anna hit a hard back elbow on Brody for a nearfall. Anna hit a double bulldog for a nearfall at 5:30, but Ley made the save. Anna hit some short-arm clotheslines on Ley, then a hair-mare faceplant. Joiya and Brody took turns slugging Anna. Those two fought over who would cover and pin Anna. Ley hit a moonsault for a nearfall on Anna, but the ref stopped counting! The crowd went nuts, angry at him for stopping!
The women all shoved him around. Joiya peeled off the ref’s shirt, and she put it on. Rachel “pinned” the ref at 8:32. “Montreal be damned, this is the biggest controversy in all of pro wrestling!” a commentator said. The ref had an Anna Ray T-shirt on! Ley hit a swinging neckbreaker. Anna got a rollup on Joiya and got the flash pin! The crowd was irate at the blatant favoritism by this crooked ref.
Anna Ray defeated Joiya Blake, Rachel Ley, and Brody Dahl at 10:03.
8. Connor Hopkins vs. Hartenbower in a no-DQ, Falls Count Anywhere match. The other members of the heel faction came to the ring with Hopkins, but they left before the bell. Hartenbower struck him with a chair as they fought on the floor. They looped the room and fought along the walls. “The Curse” faction partners Hunter Holdcraft and Stephen Wolf came to the ring and helped fight Hartenbower. Hopkins and Hartenbower brawled over to a bar at 6:00. Hartenbower got a nearfall on top of the bar! He dropped Connor face-first on the bar.
Hunter and Wolf got back in there and helped beat down Hartenbower. Hopkins hit a suplex across several open chairs, and he got a nearfall on the floor at 9:00. They put a guardrail link over Hartenbower, then they struck the guardrail with a chair. Brittnie Brooks grabbed a trash can, and she struck Hartenbower over the head with it at 11:30. They finally got back into the ring, but Hopkins, Wolf, and Holdcraft continued to beat down Hartenbower. Hopkins leapt off the second rope, but Hartenbower caught him with a spear! He got a nearfall at 13:30.
Hartenbower and Hopkins traded forearm strikes while on their knees, and more while standing. Hartenbower hit a flipping powerbomb for a nearfall. Hartenbower powerbombed him against the guardrail link in the corner of the ring at 15:30! Hopkins speared Hartenbower through a door in the corner! 12-Gaige finally came to the ring at 17:30 and brawled with his former tag partner Holdcraft! Hopkins swung a chair, but he accidentally hit teammate Holdcraft, sending Hunter off the apron and falling through a table at ringside!
Hopkins hit 12-Gaige and Hartenbower with the chair. The heels began pulling up the mat! They removed the canvas, so the exposed wood boards were visible. Hopkins hit a Stroke faceplant onto the wood boards for a nearfall at 21:00. Channing Thomas and RJS now ran to ringside to help beat up the heels! Hartenbower and Hopkins brawled back to the floor and over by the commentary table. Hartenbower powerbombed Hopkins through the table and got a believable nearfall at 24:00. Hartenbower stacked two open tables, and he placed Hopkins on the middle table. He started to climb a ladder, but the heels returned and grabbed Hartenbower and powerbombed him through the double-stacked tables. Hopkins rolled on top of the prone Hartenbower for the pin.
Connor Hopkins defeated Hartenbower in a no-DQ, Falls Count Anywhere match at 26:07.
* Bobby Orlando ran down and chased off the heels. (Where was he for the past 26 minutes, though?)
Final Thoughts: Some fun matches on this ‘surprise match’ show. B3cca vs. Syuri was fantastic and well worth going out of your way to check out. I’ll go with Kody Lane vs. Maggie Lee for second. The main event takes third. It was an okay brawl, but much like a different match I reviewed a day ago — it just didn’t need to go 26 minutes. And of course, it makes no sense why the babyfaces all wait so long to come down and help when the heels were out there the whole time, cheating.
AMB continues to be an impressive newer face in this territory, and it was nice to see him win a belt. Again, it may have been entirely planned that he was going to win, but the way it played out, I just wouldn’t be surprised if Rose surprised the kid by getting his first title by not kicking out. Regardless, that was a fun five-way to open the show.
