Matt Hardy made his entrance. McKenzie Mitchell billed him as Matthew “The Broken” Hardy. His “MATTer of fact” fact of the week (a callback to his old Matt Hardy Version 1 Mattitude Facts) was “Matt always partakes in Tim Hortons whilst in Canada”. Tom Hannifan noted that Jeff would be out here now, but he was attacked by a mystery attacker “backstage” last week (in reality, he still isn’t allowed to cross the border). Matt said he and Jeff walked into Lockdown as champions, and walked out of Lockdown as not-champions.
He said he’s not going to make excuses because the Nemeths beat them. Matt said the wrestling world calls him and Jeff the GOATs. He said it’s on the Hardys who didn’t live up to the world’s expectations. He said they’ve already lived their dreams by winning all the tag team titles in all promotions and realms. Matt said the TNA Tag Titles are the most special to them.
Matt said he and Jeff were about to cash in their rematch clause with the Nemeths, but someone beat up Jeff backstage and prevented that from happening. Matt said it takes a lot to take out Jeff Hardy because he’s bounced back from jumping off buildings and ladders; but Jeff didn’t bounce back after this attack. Matt said he suspects Ryan and Nic Nemeth being the ones who injured Jeff because they had the most to gain from taking Jeff out.
Matt said the Nemeths may have laid out this plan, but one thing about the Hardys is “We will not die”. The TNA Tag Team Champions Nic and Ryan Nemeth made their entrance. Nic joked “why won’t you die?” and said that Matt is being an old man who yells at clouds. Nic pointed out that Matt said he won’t make excuses, but then goes on to make excuses for ten minutes. Nic said he’s acting like the fans who say they don’t want to bother Nic, but then go on to bother him in the middle of him eating his Surf and Turf.
Nic said when the Nemeths beat the Hardys at Lockdown, they do it for big money and blockbusters. Nic said Matt better not blame Ryan and him for taking Jeff out. Nic said when the Nemeths beat the GOATs, they proved the point that The Nemeths are the best wrestling family in the world today. Nic said that he and Ryan aren’t taking Jeff out of commission for free.
Matt said that Nic made a mistake. Nic said he doesn’t make mistakes because he’s a ring general. Matt said the mistake Nic made was walking out here. Matt then went on to clock Nic and Ryan with right hands. Ryan blindsided Matt to save Nic from a Twist of Fate. The Nemeths put the boots to Matt with the numbers advantage. Indie security guards ran out and struggled to contain Matt Hardy and the Nemeths. Guards managed to separate them and send the Nemeths to the back…
John’s Thoughts: It takes a bit of suspension of disbelief to assume that Jeff Hardy was smuggled to Canada only to get shipped back to America in an ambulance (as TNA viewers, it’s become formula to expect the obligatory Jeff Hardy injury angle right before their Canada tours). That said, I don’t mind them trying to kayfabe the obligatory Jeff Hardy injury angle because they probably don’t want to draw attention to Jeff’s past DUIs. Because of how TNA set this mystery attacker up as a “Whodunit”, the Nemeths feel like a super obvious red herring. Matt’s promo did intrigue me though as it sets up the mystery attacker as maybe a mystery attacker tag team? The Righteous would be a HUGE letdown, so let’s hope they don’t waste the whodunit on them. Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy? I can see that as a good and satisfying guess?
Gia Miller interviewed Trey Miguel backstage about his number one contenders match against Jason Hotch for a title shot against Mustafa Ali whenever Ali is recovered from his injury. Trey said he and Jason want the same thing, Ali and the International Title. Trey said he doesn’t just respect Jason, he loves him. Trey talked about how he trained Jason Hotch. Trey talked about how they know all about each others’ moves, but tonight is about something bigger to them. Trey gave Jason a “may the best man win” and he said he wishes Ali is watching from his hospital bed as a preview as to what is in Ali’s future…
Hannifan and Rehwoldt hyped coming segments…[c]
Elayna Black cut a promo backstage. She said maybe her loss at Lockdown in front of her family may have affected her more than she thought. She was cut off when the Elegance Brand passed by her with the Concierge talking loudly. They mocked Elayna for her loss. The Concierge said the Elegance Brand no nothing about losing. He hyped up M as the inaugural Knockouts TV Champion. M said unlike Elayna, she didn’t disappoint everyone that came to see her.
Elayna told M she better be careful because Elayna might take the title from her. M said “nope”. Elayna said M was just scared. M said she didn’t want to fight Elayna, but Heather will. Heather let out a “wait, what?”. Elayna said she’ll see Heather soon and left. The Concierge, Mr. Elegance, and M also left, leaving Heather standing there looking baffled…
John’s Thoughts: I’m really liking Elayna’s babyface turn now. It was weird when they did the forced babyface turn for the hometown pop at Lockdown, but I like how they’re using the Lockdown loss as character development. Elayna was also in dire need of a character shift because her heel persona stalled out a long long time ago, going back to the latter part of her NXT run.
Expressions escorted and introduced AJ Francis while also heeling on the Canadian crowd. He said the crowd sucks like a vacuum cleaner. He also called AJ Francis the best big man in the business. His opponent was “already in the ring”, lookin’ like someone you call from Sears to repair your HVAC or laundry machine…
1. AJ Francis (w/Expressions) vs. Brent Oakley. Brent went for some quick Stinger Splashes, but was quickly shrugged off. Francis no-sold Brent’s gut punches. Brent draped Francis on the ropes and hit him with that Baseball Slide Power Bomb that Shinsuke Nakamura and John Morrison use. Oakley took Expressions’s cowboy hat and told him to “suck it”. Francis hit Oakley with a spear when Oakley entered the ring. AJ wins.
AJ Francis defeated Brent Oakley via pinfall in 0:40.
Francis took the mic and talked about how beating Brent proves he’s the best big man in the business. He said he’s also the best AJ to step foot in a TNA ring. Francis then demanded that he have Avery Styles’s debut match. Francis told Avery to come out here so he can give him the ass whoopin’ that his daddy never did. TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella made his entrance.
Santino said he normally doesn’t agree with “AJ Franchini” and his sidekick “Expresso”, but today he agrees. Santino introduced Avery Styles who joined Santino on stage. Avery asked Avery if he wants to make his debut against Francis next week? Avery said “hell yeah”. Frankie Kazarian rushed out and told him not to listen to everything a stooge like Santino says.
He said he can’t have Avery face a giant man like AJ Francis. Kazarian took it upon himself to refuse the match. He then told the J-brones in the truck to hit his music so he and Avery can bounce. Kaz’s music played to end the segment…
John’s Thoughts: Even though it was a 40 second match, that air conditioner repair man got in more offense than I expected. No harm, no foul though as AJ did ultimately destroy him in short order. I really do like jobber matches and really hope that companies use them more often to build up monsters (Undertaker is doing a decent job doing that with big men like Omos and El Carnicero in AAA). I hope they don’t rush this “Uncle Frank” storyline as it can lead to some character development while allowing Avery to get some good on the job training with a solid veteran like Frankie.
“The SUIT” Daria Rae met up with Xia Brookside and Zoey Serrano and wished them luck. Daria said she also hopes that they don’t just beat Indi and Harley, but she wants them to “end them”…[c]
A TNA Bound for Glory ad aired, featuring Nic Nemeth vs. Leon Slater for the TNA World Championship…
Entrances for the next match took place. Daria Rae joined the commentary table. Tom Hannifan actually called her “Diarrhea Rae”…
2. Indi Hartwell and Harley Hudson vs. Zoey Serrano and TNA Knockouts Champion Xia Brookside. Xia immediately tagged out to avoid Indi. Indi and Zoey tossed each other around and traded strikes. Indi dumped Zoey to ringside. Zoey and Xia then started bickering at ringside. Zoey then punched at a heckling “fan” in the crowd. Daria said she empathizes with Zoey because wrestling fans can be annoying, but she’ll also make measures to take care of the paying fans at ringside.[c]
Back from break, the heels cut the ring in half on Harley. Harley dodged Zoey to cause Zoey to accidently nail Xia with a clothesline. Harley hit Zoey with a Monkey Flip to bring in Indi for the hot tag. Indi rallied with clotheslines on both opponents and got a two count on Zoey. Both women traded counters, with Indi hitting Zoey with a Spinebuster for a two count.
All four women were laid out after trading power strikes. Both teams then traded hands. Xia dumped Harley to ringside. Zoey hit Indi with a German Suplex and running knee. Xia tagged in for a two count. Xia continued to berate Zoey Serrano. This allowed Indi to uppercut Xia and dumped Zoey to ringside. Harley kept Zoey at bay while Indi locked Xia in what looked like a modified Rings of Saturn. Xia tapped out.
Indi Hartwell and Harley Hudson defeated Xia Brookside and Zoey Serrano via pinfall in 10:04.
Hannifan said we rarely see Indi go for submissions and that Daria should appreciate that because Daria is a MMA fighter. Daria told Tom to shut the hell up…
John’s Thoughts: I liked this match and liked that it wasn’t your usual “challenger pins the champ” scenario. Yes, they went there, but the purpose of it was to protect the debuting Zoey while also setting up Indi for a potential title shot. Ultimately, I expect Daria to screw her over somehow to potentially set up a Bound for Glory match for the authority figure (?). I’m also intrigued as to why they had Zoey and Xia constantly arguing throughout the match?
It was time for the TNA sponsored Injury Report. Jeff Hardy is “out” for the foreseeable future with “head and torso trauma”. A good portion of the roster are recovering from injuries from Lockdown. Mustafa Ali is “out” with a punctured lung…

Ryan Nemeth and his shoe were laid out backstage, presumably by the mystery attacker(s). Hannifan wondered if Matt Hardy laid out Ryan?…
KC Navarro made his entrance. Leon Slater joined the commentary team for the next match and Hannifan reminded viewers that Leon Slater relinquished the X Division Title via “Option C” to earn a World Title Match at Bound for Glory. Joe Alonzo made his entrance with a mic in hand. He acted very corny and arrogant as he demanded the crowd cheer for him. He said the moment he signs his TNA contract, Leon Slater decides to relinquish the title. Joe said that rather than want to go for the world title, Leon Slater is just scared to watch Joe Alonzo take the title from him.
Slater said he doesn’t watch Joe Alonzo at all. Joe Alonzo said he’s going to beat thie Oompa Loompa KC Navarro, and then win the X Division Championship. Joe Alonzo was showered with boos. Joe Alonzo kept talking about himself in the third person. Joe Alonzo said the fans don’t like Joe Alonzo because they aren’t Joe Alonzo. Joe Alonzo said he understands because if Joe Alonzo wasn’t Joe Alonzo, then he would hate Joe Alonzo too…
John’s Thoughts: Hey! I kinda like this Joe Alonzo guy!
3. KC Navarro vs. Joe Alonzo in a match to qualify for the X Division Championship Match at Bound for Glory. Joe Alonzo kept asking the crowd to stop booing him. Joe Alonzo mugged for the crowd after a basic trip up on KC. Joe Alonzo flinched and KC pat his head. KC dumped Joe Alonzo to ringside and hit him with a Suicide Dive at ringside. KC dapped it up with Leon Slater at ringside.
KC was shoved off the top rope to ringside. KC sold a back injury. Joe Alonzo hit KC with a backbreaker on the apron for a two count. Joe Alonzo then put the boots to KC. Joe Alonzo hit KC with a dropkick and backbreaker for a nearfall. Joe Alonzo worked on KC with methodical offense. Joe Alonzo and KC took each other out with Stereo crossbodies after Joe Alonzo called KC an Oompa Loompa.
KC rallied with strikes and a Tornado DDT for a nearfall on Joe Alonzo for a nearfall. Joe Alonzo baited KC with a rope jawbreaker and hit KC with a flying Axe Handle strike for a nearfall. KC draped Joe Alonzo on the ropes and hit him with the 305 Area Code (Draped Wrecking Ball Kick). Joe Alonzo stuffed a Blessing in Disguise attempt and shoved the female referee into KC.
Leon Slater said that Joe Alonzo is scum! KC stuffed what looked like a pedigree attempt by Joe Alonzo. KC escaped a swinging neckbreaker attempt by Joe Alonzo but Joe Alonzo countered back with a rollup for a two count. While Joe Alonzo was gloating, KC hit Joe Alonzo with a Blessing in Disguise (Destino) for the victory.
KC Navarro defeated Joe Alonzo via pinfall in 7:40 to qualify for the X Division Championship match at Bound for Glory.
Hannifan noted that KC Navarro is one of six wrestlers that will wrestle at Bound for Glory for the vacant X Title. The camera then zoomed in on Leon Slater who promised that he will become the youngest TNA World Champion of all time…
John’s Thoughts: I was totally expecting this match to simply be a really good and well worked indie match between two very strong wrestlers. I was pleasantly surprised to see Joe Alonzo make an awesome first impression as a snobby and arrogant heel. Another positive sign of what I’m seeing as a youth movement in TNA ever since Delirious got the book. Joe Alonzo didn’t just keep that arrogance in the promo either, as Joe Alonzo managed to carry over that character work to his in ring. Total Fantasy scenario, but I would love it if TNA would sign McKenzie Mitchell’s arch nemesis, former NXT wrestler Big Body Javi, and we get him teaming with Joe Alonzo to form the most lovable smug asshole tag team in the world! On a serious note, I like them having Leon Slater promise a title win at BFG as it adds stakes to his match. Too bad, Nic Nemeth’s TV time is being cannibalized by the strange decision to put the tag belts on him, forcing him to split time in the lower-stakes tag division.
Fabian Aichner was shown clapping backstage after watching the previous match on a monitor. Aichner said he’s looking forward to joining KC in the match after winning his qualifier next week. Aichner said he respect KC after going to war alongside him against The System. Aichner said he’s going to prove to the world that Fabien Aichner is “Numero Uno”…
TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions Allie and Kiera Hogan made their entrance for an open challenge. Their challengers were “already in the ring”. They were indie wrestlers Shazza McKenzie and Vipress…
John’s Thoughts: I’m a fan of both of these women, but I have a fun story regarding Vipress. One night at the Hoodslam indie promotion, one of my good friends attended the show which might have been his first pro wrestling event he ever attended, and he’s a non-fan (his girlfriend is the wrestling fan and brought him over). He ended up really liking the show, but what really made his day was him accidentally getting hit as a legit fan by a Corkscrew Moonsault from Vipress. I’m ok sharing this moment because my buddy was a good sport and it gave him more respect to the stuff these wrestlers do (not to mention, he knows Jujitsu and can take a proper back bump).
4. Allie and Kiera Hogan vs. Vipress and Shazza McKenzie for the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championships. Allie hit Shazza with a Thesz Press and then tagged in Kiera for some tandem offense. Kiera hit Shazza with a draping hip attack and leg drop for a nearfall. Shazza distracted the ref to allow Vipress to get a cheap shot in.
Vipress tagged in and hit Kiera with methodical offense. Kiera hit Shazza with superkicks to bring in Allie for the hot tag. Allie rallied with running strikes on Vipress and hit her with the Upside Down. Allie hit Vipress with a Codebreaker. Kiera hit Vipress with a Paige Turner to give Allie the pinfall win.
Allie and Kiera Hogan defeated Vipress and Shazza McKenzie 4:29 to retain the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championships.
John’s Thoughts: A solid cred building win for the tag champions. I’m actually a huge advocate for the talents of Shazza and Vipress from Shazza’s work in PROGRESS and Vipress’s work in Hoodslam. Both are good signings if they want to go that direction. I do have a caveat with Vipress. She is very good in the ring and was TV ready with this cool looking Mortal Kombat villainess look. For some reason, she’s drastically changed up the look for the worse and looks like a regular person who you would hang out at the bar with (not totally bad, but her old look was just so awesome!). Meanwhile, Shazza did the opposite as she’s improved her look in a good way since the last time I saw her.
Indi Hartwell walked up to Indi Hartwell who was on the phone. Indi asked for a Knockouts Title shot due to pinning the champ earlier. Daria Rae said she’s giving Gabby Forza a title shot becasue Gabby gave her a better first impression than Indi. Daria then walked off ignoring Indi’s protests…

Tom Hannifan ran through upcoming TNA Live events which included another tour of Canada in November for Destination X and Impact (So anticipate Jeff Hardy’s next big injury angle coming up)…
Ricky Sosa cut a promo saying it’s been a rough few weeks with a recent loss and pain from Lockdown. Sosa said The System tried to keep him down, but The Young Savage is still standing. The System interrupted Sosa backstage with Alisha Edwards doing her catchphrase. Eddie said The System decide when things are finished, and things got finished at Lockdown.
Brian Myers said Sosa has guts, but that means nothing in front of the gatekeepers of TNA. Elijah walked over with his guitar and told The System to leave the kid alone. Elijah said he has unfinished business after The System beat him up last week. Eddie said Elijah needs to take that up with Santino. The System walked off…
Entrances for the next match took place…
5. Dutch (w/Vincent) vs. BDE (w/Rich Swann). After the bell rang, Vincent took the mic and said he wants BDE to understand something. He said he and Dutch sees someone who’s trying to make a name for himself around here. He said he knows that BDE wants his first singles win in TNA. Vincent said they’ll give it to him for free.
Vincent told Dutch to lay down on the mat, which he did. Instead of taking the freebie, BDE gave Dutch an elbow drop. Dutch then caught BDE out of the air and flapjacked him. Vincent then tossed BDE around methodically. Dutch no-sold BDE’s strikes. Dutch reversed a springboard cutter into a Bossman Slam for the victory.
Dutch defeated BDE via pinfall in 3:56.
Dutch pat BDE on the head after the match and then started to do his weird tongue thingy. When Rich Swann went to check on BDE, Vincent blindsided him with a swinging neckbreaker to leave him lying. Dutch then put an unconscious BDE over his shoulder and carried him to the back while doing his weird tongue thing…
John’s Thoughts: Oh no, Dutch doing that tongue thing has me afraid that he might be carrying BDE to some sort of creepy sex dungeon or something (I hope Dutch didn’t get the wrong impression when he heard the letters “BDE”). Jokes aside, BDE’s matches are predictable, because he’ll always lose, but I liked the story they tried to tell here with Vincent trying to give him a freebie win to coerce him into joining their weird hippie cult. The Righteous need to come out of this program with a dub, or else risk being yet another ineffective pro wrestling cult. This BDE losing streak story line has also been going on for a while now, and I think it might be finally time to turn the page to the next phase of that storyline. Maybe BDE gets “corrupted” coming out of this storyline and turns on Rich Swann? Maybe BDE cheats to pin the former TNA World Champion for his first win?

Mila Moore was on the phone with Mustafa Ali presumably, talking about paying attention to the Hotch vs. Miguel match. John Skyler nervously approached her and was about to request something (A confession? Booty? Booty and a confession? I kid). Mila was too busy and walked off to continue to talk on the phone…
Trey Miguel made his entrance. The camera flipped upside down to match Trey Miguel’s Spider-Man cosplay and entrance. Hannifan said he’s your friendly neighborhood Spider-Trey. “Tom Notch” Jason Hotch was out next. Hannifan noted that this match is happening due to Mustafa Ali owing both men contractually obligated rematches (Trey’s delayed due to his knee cap injury from months ago)…
6. Trey Miguel vs. “Top Notch” Jason Hotch for a future title shot at the TNA International Championship. Trey and Hotch jawed with each other for a bit, but then soaked in the cheers from the fans. Hotch and Trey shared a respectful handshake. Trey and Hotch then had a stalemate during a respectful technical start. Hotch and Trey had a few stalemates in the opening minutes.[c]
Hotch and Trey were even when brawling at ringside. Hotch sent Trey in the ring with a knee lift. Trey avoided a Frog Splash and put Hotch in a Regal Stretch, which Hotch escaped. Hotch escaped a Front Chancery and gave Trey a Yakuza Kick for a nearfall. Hotch hit Trey with a rebound back suplex for a neaerfall. Trey flipped out of a suplex and flipped off Hotch. Trey tripped up Hotch and hit him with a Lionsault for a nearfall.
Hotch dodged a meteora and took down Trey for a double stomp. Hotch hit Trey with a smooth Gamengiri and followed up with Mustafa Ali’s signature rolling neckbreaker for a nearfall on Trey. Trey hit Hotch with a double stomp combo for a nearfall. Hotch dodged a meteora and gave Trey a Helluva Kick in the corner. Trey dodged a dive, but Hotch took down Trey with a Cave-In Stomp for a nearfall.
Hotch landed on his feet off Trey’s Sunset Bomb. Trey hit Hotch with a Gamengiri and Cheeky Nandos. Hotch escaped the Nandos into a smooth Poisonrana. Trey no-sold the Poison-Rana and gave Hotch a Poisonrana, which Hotch so-sold. Hotch hit Trey with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a nearfall. Both men traded stereo strikes and no-sells, leading to both men taking each other out with stereo roundhouses.
Hotch and Trey took off the gloves and then traded Fighting Spirit right hands. Agent Zero got in between both men to nail them both with a double clothesline for the apparent no-contest.
Trey Miguel vs. Jason Hotch ended in an apparent No-Contest in 18:43.
After the bell, Zero laid out both men with chokebombs. The Executive Producer credits aired to close the show…
But wait? There’s more! In a stinger segment, security guards were holding back Nic Nemeth and Matt Hardy from brawling. Matt blaming Nic for taking out Jeff, and Nic blaming Matt for taking out Ryan. Santino Marella got in between both men and booked Nic Nemeth vs. Matt “Hard Boy” for the TNA Championship for next week in a No-DQ match. Nic was happy to oblige. The show closed with both men still arguing over who is behind the backstage attacks…
John’s Thoughts: Awesome match between Trey and Jason. Yes, it ended in a crap finish, but at the same time it set this match up as a TV preview as to what both of these men can do on the bigger stage. Hopefully both men run this match back on a PPV down the road as we know how wonderful they can be in 18 minutes. Maybe if Hotch wins the title at Bound for Glory we can get this killer singles match at Destination X? Really happy to see them turn Jason Hotch loose too as he’s fitting in well with this TNA youth movement.
Was Tommy Dreamer and Sami Callihan getting canned maybe the best thing to happen for TNA Wrestling (and I’ve liked Tommy’s and Sami’s work over the years)? So far, so good with former Ring of Honor booker Delirious on the book. I was afraid that he might make TNA vanilla too, so seeing him patiently working with all these young wrestlers and developing them has been a nice surprise. Keep it up! A solid episode of TNA this week as they continue to do a good job trying to make new stars. One compaint I do have though is still, why the hell did they put the tag team title on Nic Nemeth? He should be having a blockbuster feud with Leon Slater to sell the Bound for Glory main event; but instead he has to also meander to the tag team division to feud with Matt and Jeff.
