Logo_WWE_dnWWE issued the following press release to Prowrestling.net on Friday regarding the 2017 Royal Rumble.

WWE® announced today that the Alamodome in San Antonio will host the 2017 WWE Royal Rumble on Sunday, January 29, 2017.  This marks the return of Royal Rumble to the Alamodome for the first time since 1997.

Royal Rumble is one of the WWE’s biggest events of the year and officially kicks off the road to WrestleMania.  The event will be highlighted by a 30-man over-the-top-rope Royal Rumble match featuring WWE Superstars from both Raw® and SmackDown®, where the winner will receive a title opportunity at WrestleMania® 33 in Orlando on April 2, 2017.

Tickets for the 2017 WWE Royal Rumble will go on sale Friday, October 14 at 10 AM Central through all Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com, or by calling 1-800-745-3000.  All tickets are subject to service charges and facility fees.

The Alamodome previously hosted the 1997 Royal Rumble, where more than 60,000 fans witnessed WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin® win the Royal Rumble match and WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels® win the WWE Championship.

Powell’s POV: As previously noted, it’s good news for NFL fans, as this year’s Royal Rumble returns to taking place the week between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl. My apologies to that one die-hard out there somewhere who actually enjoys the awful Pro Bowl, which airs the same night as the Rumble.
