New trial ordered in Jesse Ventura case, appeals court throws out the $1.8 million ruling in his favor

HallofFameWWE_dnA federal appeals court threw out the $1.8 million in damages that Jesse Ventura was awarded in a defamation lawsuit against the late Chris Kyle. The AP reports that the court of appeals also sent Ventura’s defamation claim back to district court for a new trial.

“Ventura’s counsel’s closing remarks, in combination with the improper cross-examination of two witnesses about Kyle’s insurance coverage, prevented Kyle from receiving a fair trial,” wrote the judges who ruled against Ventura. Read more at Cbslocal.com. [Thanks to Dot Net Member Efren]

Powell’s POV: Kyle, a late Navy SEAL, claimed in his book “American Sniper” that he punched out “Scruff Face” (Ventura) in a California bar in 2006 after Ventura made offensive comments about the special forces unit, to which he also belongs.
