WWE Live Event
Tampa, Florida at Amalie Center
Report by Shane Howard of Twitter.com/HitTheRopes
This was the final Smackdown show of the Holiday Tour.
1. The Usos beat New Day and Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable to retain the Smackdown Tag Titles. Aiden English told everyone about his U.S. Championship aspirations before the match. The crowd loved everyone but English, Gable, and Benjamin. Los of “Rusev Day” chants throughout match. Comedy galore with twerking and rapid unsuspecting tags at one point.
2. Mojo Rawley beat Zack Ryder. Ryder started match on mic telling Rawley he looked stupid and threatened to punch him. Rawley said do it and Ryder obliged. Mojo dominated most of the match though Ryder had a spot where he controls but falls to a forearm shot.
3. Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan (w/Ruby Riott) beat Becky Lynch and Naomi. Naomi had the pin on Sarah, but Ruby got in the ring to distract ref. Naomi kicked Ruby and Sarah rolled the preoccupied Naomi up for the win.
4. Bobby Roode, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Randy Orton defeated Baron Corbin, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn. Zayn teased throwing his shirt to crowd only to throw it to Owens. Zayn is great at being a pest and making people hate him and did things to rile up the crowd throughout. No one cared for Corbin. There was a hot tag to Orton, who hit the RKO on Zayn to win while Nakamura prevented Owens from making the save. Orton and Shinsuke posed and took pictures with several fans after match. They also sign autographs. Huge applause for Orton when he talked with and hugged a fan with cancer.
Intermission
5. Bludgeon Brothers beat Breezango. There was a pep talk backstage by The Ascension. Breeze stunned Harper early on with a vicious kick to the face and Breezango hit a double team move. They didn’t get any offense after that. The match finished in about three minutes with a minute of it being comedy from Breezango trying to hype themselves up like the Bludgeon’s before things got physical.
6. Charlotte defeated Natalya, Carmella, and Tamina in a four-way to retain the Smackdown Women’s Championship. The usual woos for Charlotte throughout the match. Charlotte got Nattie to tap out to Figure 8.
7. AJ Styles defeated John Cena and Jinder Mahal (w/The Singh Brothers) in a Triple Threat to retain the WWE Championship. The crowd was hot for Cena and AJ. No love for Mahal, who based on the Singh Bros, has his sights on the U.S. Championship. The Singh Brothers got involved to help Mahal early on. Cena and AJ team up to triple suplex the heel trio. Cena brought a table inside the ring late in match but ended up going through it courtesy of Jinder. A Phenomenal Forearm on by Styles on Mahal ended the match. Cena raised AJ’s arm afterward.
