Impact opened with highlights from last week’s show… The Impact opening video aired… Tom Hannifan and Matt Rehwoldt were on commentary. Hannifan noted that Bound For Glory will be three weeks away on Sunday… McKenzie Mitchell was the ring announcer…
1. M by Elegance (w/The Concierge, Heather by Elegance, Mr. Elegance) vs. Kiera Hogan (w/Allie) for the Knockouts TV Title. The Concierge heeled on the crowd before introducing M. The broadcast team noted that Knockouts TV Title matches have ten-minute time limits and will be held exclusively on Impact.
M jumped from the middle rope and performed a Blockbuster that led to an early two count. Hogan battled back and hit a shotgun dropkick, a hip attack, and then a running single-leg kick on M, who was down in a corner of the ring.
Hogan set up for her Face the Music finisher, but M stuffed it and hit a Codebreaker for a two count. M went for a top rope moonsault, but Hogan moved. Hogan performed a missile dropkick from the middle rope. Hogan went to the ropes, but M pulled her off. M picked up Hogan and performed her inverted piledriver finisher for the win…
M by Elegance defeated Kiera Hogan in roughly 5:30 to retain the Knockouts TV Title.
Powell’s POV: A solid first Knockouts TV Title defense. I wasn’t crazy initially about ten-minute time limits, but it makes sense since most Knockouts television matches end in less time. Rehwoldt also explained that they went with ten-minute time limits as a throwback to how television title matches went in the past.
Gia Miller interviewed Leon Slater on the backstage interview set. Slater said he would “beat the ass out of Nic Nemeth’s bug-eyed little brother”… [C]
Mila Moore wrapped up a phone call when John Skyler approached her. Skyler was about to ask her out, but she took another call…
Powell’s POV: You’ve got this Skyler. And if she agrees, you know you’ll have a lot of “you time” because she spends so much time on the phone.
2. Rich Swann (w/BDE) vs. LJ Cleary in a qualifier for the six-way match for the vacant X Division Championship. Both entrances were televised. The broadcast team spoke about Swann and Cleary knowing each other well from working together outside TNA.
Swann got Cleary seated on a chair on the floor. Swann ran around the ring and booted Cleary’s face. The fans chanted “one more time,” and then Swann obliged. The fans and Swann got greedy, as Swann tried for a third, but Cleary shot up from the chair, returned to the ring, and hit the running Swann with a suicide dive.
Back in the ring, Swann regained control and hit a top rope frog splash for a good near fall. A “this is awesome” chant broke out. Swann hit a Poison Rana. Clearly came back with the Irish Goodbye (a springboard Canadian Destroyer). Swann battled back and hit a Phoenix Splash for the win.
Rich Swann defeated LJ Cleary in roughly 8:05 to qualify for the six-way match for the vacant X Division Championship at Bound For Glory.
Afterward, Swann and Cleary shook hands, and then Swann raised Cleary’s arm…
Powell’s POV: A strong match. TNA regulars KC Navarro and Swann beating newcomers Joe Alzonzo and Cleary to qualify for the six-way was predictable, but I like seeing fresh faces on Impact. Alonzo signed with TNA, but there’s been no announcement regarding Cleary doing the same. Cleary is engaged to WWE wrestler Lyra Valkyria. Or at least he was. He may have reconsidered now that her character looks like she hasn’t washed her hair in weeks. Yes, I’m kidding.
Backstage, Elijah told Ricky Sosa not to let anyone tell him that he doesn’t belong. “Let’s send a message,” Elijah said as they prepared to head out for their tag team match… [C]
Frankie Kazarian delivered a promo from an undisclosed location about trying to end Moose’s TNA career. Kazarian said he would miss seeing Moose in TNA, but he kept pushing. Kazarian said Moose painted himself into a corner with his own blood. Kazarian said he needed to make sure Avery Styles stays on the right path, and he wishes that Moose would be around to see it. Kazarian thanked Moose for everything he’s done for TNA…
The System team made their entrance together, and then Elijah and Ricky Sosa made separate entrances…
3. Elijah and Ricky Sosa vs. Cedric Alexander and Eddie Edwards (w/Alisha Edwards). Elijah went up top for Old School on Alexander, but he had to fight off Eddie and sent him to the floor. Sosa performed a dive onto Eddie, and then Elijah followed through with the move on Alexander.
Later, Elijah hoisted up Alexander for a move, but Alisha climbed on the apron and distracted the referee while Eddie helped Alexander take offensive control. The heels isolated Elijah, and Alisha interfered while the referee was distracted. Eddie jumped from the middle rope and was hit by an Elijah knee strike, which led to the hot tag.
Sosa worked over both opponents and took out Eddie with a cutter. Sosa pulled Alexander from the ropes with a hurcanrana and then hit him with a twisting suplex that led to a near fall. Eddie ran in and ate a big boot from Sosa. Elijah put Eddie down with a neckbreaker. Elijah performed an airplane spin on Alexander. Sosa hit a springboard moonsault and had the pin, but Eddie returned to break it up.
Bear Bronson and Brian Myers came out. Elijah held Eddie’s arm while talking the ropes and then spotted Bronson and Myers and dove onto them. In the ring, Sosa stuffed Alexander’s Lumbar Check and then hit his Headshot finisher for the win.
Elijah and Ricky Sosa defeated Cedric Alexander and Eddie Edwards in 12:10.
Afterward, Eddie hit Sosa with a chair from behind while his allies ran Elijah into the ring steps. Eddie performed a package piledriver on Sosa. Eddie sat down on a chair in front of Sosa while his allies gathered around him. Eddie said he’s been wrestling longer than Sosa has been alive. Eddie challenged Sosa to face him in a match at Bound For Glory. Eddie said they would find out whether Sosa belongs in the TNA locker room…
Powell’s POV: A good tag team match with a crowd-pleasing finish, followed by the System members getting their heat back with the post-match attack.
“The Righteous” Vince and Dutch were featured in a promo video. They spoke about how they wanted to turn BDE into something greater, but now they would see how he fares against them…
The sponsored injury report segment aired. Xia Brookside has multiple contusions and was out of action for precautionary reasons. Leon Slater is recovering after being assaulted by a mystery attacker last week, but he was cleared. Frankie Kazarian is 100 percent going into the main event. Moose has a neck injury, but he was cleared… [C]
Powell’s POV: I don’t mind that various wrestlers have been attacked by a mystery wrestler(s), but it’s odd that the attacked wrestlers just sort of move on. My guess remains that the mystery attackers will be members of the Wyatt Sicks, but I hope to be pleasantly surprised by the former Alister Black being revealed as the mystery attacker.
Ryan Nemeth made his entrance and was accompanied by Nic Nemeth. Leon Slater made his entrance…
4. Leon Slater vs. Ryan Nemeth. Nic Nemeth sat in on commentary. Slater was the early aggressor, but Ryan took advantage of Slater turning his focus to Nic. Ryan took offensive control and ran Slater through the ropes and into the ring post, and then put him down with a DDT that led to a near fall.
Slater came back with a kick and then dropped Ryan with a second kick. Slater splashed Ryan in a corner of the ring before performing a Utopia (an airplane spin into a slam). Slater went up top and hit the Swanton 450 for the win.
Leon Slater defeated Ryan Nemeth in 4:45.
Afterward, Nic attacked Slater from behind and worked him over with punches before biting his forehead. Ryan shoved Slater, and then Nic hit him with a title belt…
Powell’s POV: A quick match that was used to push Nic Nemeth vs. Leon Slater for the TNA World Championship at Bound For Glory.
Backstage, John Skyler had a rose in his hand. Mila Moore was on the phone and didn’t see him. She told the person that she would never go out with someone who looked like Skyler. A dejected Skyler dropped the rose and exited without Moore seeing him… [C]
Moose delivered a backstage promo about putting his TNA career on the line against Frankie Kazarian in the main event. Moose said Kazarian would get his absolute best because his back was against the wall. Moose said Kazarian would find out why he’ll always be the Face of the Franchise…
The Head of Security walked out, and then Zoey Serrano made her entrance. Stark stopped to jaw at a fan. The Head of Security intervened and pointed her toward the ring. Rehwoldt said the Head of Security wasn’t there to protect Serrano; he was there to protect everyone from her. Serrano got in the face of a production crew member. The Head of Security pointed her to the ring. Harley Hudson made her entrance. Hannifan gave his best to Rebel while acknowledging her battle with ALS. Hannifan also plugged iamals.org/rebel.
5. Zoey Serrano vs. Harley Hudson. There was a “Zoey sucks” chant at one point. Hudson performed a German suplex and then followed up with a neckbreker onto her knee, which led to a near fall. Serrano picked up Hudson and set up for a move, but she countered into Code Red and got a two count. Serrano came back and hit the Z360, which has been renamed Hell and Back, and then pinned Hudson.
Zoey Serrano beat Harley Hudson in 5:45.
Afterward, TNA authority figure Daria Rae walked onto the stage and congratulated Serrano. Rae said she didn’t think Hudson learned her lesson and told Serrano to finish her. Serrano was going to oblige, but Indi Hartwell showed up, and then Serrano exited the ring and joined Rae on the stage. Hartwell told Rae they’re not going anywhere. Rae said that’s sweet, but the way she sees it is that they are on borrowed time….
Powell’s POV: A good television match. Serrano went over strong, but Hudson got enough offense in to make it seem like she put up a good fight. I’m enjoying Serrano’s early run in TNA.
Frankie Kazarian was shown walking backstage, and then Moose was shown walking in another backstage area while Hannifan hyped the main event as coming up next… [C]
The following matches were announced for next week’s live edition of Impact: Rich Swann and BDE vs. The Righteous, Elijah vs. Eddie Edwards, Elayna Black vs. Gabby Forza vs. Harley Hudson vs. Jada Stone in a four-way for a shot at the Knockouts TV Title, and Mustafa Ali vs. Jason Hotch vs. Trey Miguel in a three-way for the TNA International Championship…
Frankie Kazarian made his entrance and was accompanied by Avery Styles. Moose made his entrance… [C]
6. Moose vs. Frankie Kazarian (Moose must leave TNA if he loses). Avery Styles sat next to the broadcast table. Moose hit Go To Hell for an early near fall. A short time later, Moose ran up the ropes and dove at Kazarian, who hit him with a cutter on the way down for a near fall.
Later, Moose charged Kazarian on the floor, but Kazarian backdropped him through a table. A “TNA” chant broke out. Kazarian returned to the ring. Moose struggled before eventually returning to the ring to barely beat the referee’s count.
Moments later, Kazarian hit his Fade To Black finisher, but Moose kicked out at the last moment. Kazarian locked Moose in a submission hold. Moose rolled onto Kazarian and had him pinned, so Kazarian had to release the hold. Moose speared Kazarian for a good near fall.
Kazarian went for a springboard move and was speared in midair. Moose followed up with another spear and then pinned Kazarian.
Moose defeated Frankie Kazarian in 17:10 to extend his TNA career.
Afterward, Moose grabbed Kazarian’s crown and returned to the ring with it. Moose placed the crown on the mat and then smashed it with a chair. The executive producer credits aired while the fans chanted Moose’s name…
Backstage, Matt Hardy was laid out on the floor backstage. Two people walked behind him, but their faces were not shown…
Powell’s POV: A very good main event. It was hard to imagine Moose losing, but the big stipulation definitely enhanced the match. It will be interesting to see how they raise the stakes if this wasn’t the end of the feud.
Overall, this was a good episode to close out this batch of tapings. The final clip confirmed that multiple people are behind the recent attacks, so my money is on members of the Wyatt Sicks.
