[Hour One] The broadcast team of Excalibur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone spoke at ringside and ran through the show’s lineup…
Backstage, Renee Paquette spoke with Adam Copeland, Christian Cage, Darby Allin, and Steven Borden. “I’m sorry for the loss of your father…” Christian told Borden. Copeland asked what he was going. “For the loss of your father’s in-ring career,” Christian added. Darby told Christian that nothing between them was over. Christian said Darby is almost as notorious as he was when he held the TNT Title. Christian told Darby to worry about his championship, and he’d worry about his own, and they’d be just fine. Copeland asked if they were good for tonight…
Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler, Stokely Hathaway, Kyle Fletcher, Kevin Knight, and Don Callis stood on the interview set. Hathaway said Copeland and Cage didn’t need to worry about any team other than FTR because they are in the ladder match at All Out. Knight pointed out that the Young Bucks are also in the ladder match. Fletcher recalled that he and Knight beat the Bucks. Callis spoke about his team potentially being added to the ladder match. Hathaway said they could talk about that after their eight-man tag…
Ring announcer Justin Roberts delivered the introductions for the opening match. Adam Copeland came out first, and the fans sang his entrance theme after it stopped playing. Christian had a separate entrance, and then Darby Allin and Steven Borden came out together. FTR made their entrance with Hathaway. Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher made separate entrances, and Don Callis joined them…
1. Adam Copeland, Christian Cage, Darby Allin, and Steven Borden vs. Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler, Kyle Fletcher, and Kevin Knight (w/Don Callis) in an eight-man tag. Stokely Hathaway sat in on commentary. Schiavone called for Callis to replace Hathaway. Funny. Taz welcomed Hathaway. Schiavone asked Hathaway what he’d ever done to him. Hathaway said it’s only a two-hour show. One of the announcers said they tend to run long, and the others laughed.
All eight wrestlers were trading punches before a picture-in-picture break. [C]
Borden had a nice run that included him throwing two impressive dropkicks. Borden had Harwood down when he went up top, but Wheeler cut him off and crotched him on the top turnbuckle. Harwood and Wheeler hit the Power and Glory spot on Borden. Fletcher followed up with a top rope splash on Borden, and then Knight hit the UFO Splash. The heels had Borden beat, but the other babyfaces returned to the ring to break up the pin.
Harwood ended up alone in the ring with Borden and wanted to apply a Scorpion Death Lock, but Borden kicked him away. Christian hit Harwood with a chair from the floor while the referee was distracted. Allin and Borden set up for their double team finisher, but Fletcher stopped Darby on the ropes. Christian took out Fletcher and then hit the Killswitch on Wheeler on the floor. Allin and Borden hit their Coffin Death Drop finisher on Harwood, and then Borden pinned him.
Adam Copeland, Christian Cage, Darby Allin, and Steven Borden defeated Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler, Kyle Fletcher, and Kevin Knight in 15:30.
After the match, Callis stood behind Hathaway and questioned what happened, while Hathaway shook his head. In the ring, Christian helped Darby to his feet. Christian teased giving Darby the TNT Title belt, but then he held it up instead. Funny. Darby took the belt away from Christian.
Powell’s POV: A hot eight-man tag, and that’s coming from someone who finds most eight-man tags to be trivial, throwaway matches. This one was different given the dynamic between the four teams and even the two managers. There was some good action throughout, and it never hurts that Christian is a riot.
Jon Moxley, Pac, and Gabe Kidd stood backstage. Moxley said Will Ospreay targeted him. He said it’s a bold and unexpected move. Moxley said it’s incredible what Ospreay has overcome over the past year. Moxley said he’s hard on himself and others because it’s a hard job. He said that after their time together, he hopes that Ospreay has learned that any belt around anyone’s waist doesn’t make them the best.
Moxley said what Ospreay did at Wembley Stadium was amazing and will inspire kids for years to come. Moxley said he never wanted Ospreay to follow him. Moxley said he wanted Ospreay to lead. He said it’s heading where it always was headed between the two of them. Moxley said that when Ospreay looks across the ring and sees him at All Out, he should know that whatever happens is Ospreay’s responsibility.
Moxley said Pac and Kidd think they should just tune up Ospreay in the parking garage. Kidd talked about cutting him into little pieces and leaving his body red like Santa Claus. Pac said it’s the Death Riders against the world. Pac glared at Moxley while saying, “And we’re not going to let him off the hook”…
Powell’s POV: Moxley delivered a strong promo. Pac’s closing line was interesting. There were times when it seemed like there was tension between some of the Death Riders and nothing ever came of it, but this time may be different.
A video package spotlighted the Brawling Birds vs. Devine Dominion street fight for the AEW Women’s Tag Team Titles at All Out…
A graphic listed Chris Jericho vs. Nick Wayne as coming up next… [C] Chris Jericho made his entrance, and the fans sang along with “Judas.” Nick Wayne made his entrance. Renee Paquette spoke briefly at ringside about the match…
2. Chris Jericho vs. Nick Wayne. Taz recalled Jericho mocking the puka shell necklace that Wayne wears, along with Wayne’s explanation of what it means to him. Roughly five minutes into the match, Wayne ran Jericho into the ring steps. Wayne jumped off the steps and performed a Destroyer on the floor before a PIP break. [C]
Jericho dove off the top rope and hit a crossbody block on Wayne on the floor. Later, Jericho went for the Judas Effect, but Wayne avoided it and then hit his Wayne’s World finisher for a near fall. A “this is awesome” chant broke out while both men were down.
Both men traded chops once they got to their knees and while they stood up. Jericho pulled Wayne’s necklace off. Wayne’s jaw dropped, and then he picked it up off the mat and got mad. Wayne swung at Jericho, who ducked it. Wayne got behind Jericho, who rolled Wayne onto his back. It looked like Jericho was going to apply the Walls of Jericho, but he sat down on Wayne and got the three count instead.
Chris Jericho beat Nick Wayne in 13:55.
After the match, Wayne looked like he was going to cry about his broken necklace. Jericho motioned for his music to stop and then stood over Wayne, who was still upset about the necklace. Jericho offered him his hand, but Wayne declined. Jericho started to leave, but Wayne shot up and kicked the middle rope into Jericho’s groin. Wayne wrapped the necklace around his fist and then threw punches at Jericho. Wayne left the ring and returned with a chair that he slammed over Jericho’s back twice…
Powell’s POV: So Nick Wayne’s character is a quirky weirdo. I wish they established the necklace’s value to Wayne months ago rather than last week. It feels too convenient that it’s suddenly such a major part of the story. The bulk of the match was enjoyable, but the necklace finish didn’t do much for me.
Excalibur announced that AEW Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone is not medically cleared to compete at All Out, but she will be back in time for the WrestleDream pay-per-view on October 17. Excalibur said Mone will face either Thekla or Willow Nightingale…
Thekla and Willow Nightingale were featured in a video package. Willow still had her left hand heavily wrapped… Excalibur said it will be Thekla vs. Willow at All Out for the shot at the AEW Women’s Championship at WrestleDream… [C]
[Hour Two] Renee Paquette spoke with AEW World Champion Will Ospreay, AEW National Champion Andrade El Idolo, and Francesco Akira. Paquette asked about the status of the United Empire. Ospreay said things were looking real good for them and spoke about the main event. He said his little brother, Callum Newman, has been running the group and inviting people to join, including Andrade.
Ospreay spoke about finding out who the better man is between him and Andrade, who holds a contract for a title shot. Ospreay smiled and said he thinks he knows who the better man is because he holds the AEW World Championship. “How you know?” Andrade asked. Ospreay told Andrade to let him know, and they could go one-on-one.
Andrade said they were on the same team tonight. Akira spoke to both men in Italian and seemed to mention they were all in the United Empire. Ospreay told Akira to say something in English. “Let’s kick the shit out of the Death Riders,” Akira said. Ospreay apologized to Paquette and said he’d pay the fine…
3. Hangman Page, Bandido, and Brody King vs. Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, and Kyle O’Reilly for a shot at the AEW Trios Titles at All Out. Schiavone said Page is from Virginia and has never lost an AEW match held in his home state. They cut to an early PIP break. [C]
Excalibur touted that next week’s Dynamite will be followed by a one-hour Collision (the second hour of Collision will be the All Out pre-show).
