The following match is advertised for the AEW WrestleDream pay-per-view on Saturday, October 17, in Orlando, Florida, at Addition Financial Arena.
-Will Osprey vs. seven wrestlers TBD in Clockwork Carnage match for the AEW World Championship
-Mercedes Mone vs. Thekla for the AEW Women’s Championship
-“The Young Bucks” Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson vs. Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight for the AEW Tag Team Titles
Powell’s POV: The Clockwork Carnage rules are listed as follows: “Two wrestlers will start with two wrestlers selected at random. Every three minutes, another randomly selected wrestler enters. Until all eight wrestlers have entered, any wrestler who is pinned or submits is eliminated. Once the final wrestler enters, all remaining wrestlers enter a 15-minute scoring period. During those 15 minutes, every pinfall or submission scores one fall. When the time expires, the wrestler with the most falls wins.”
I’m not a fan of AEW taking this approach for a title match. Other companies have gimmicky matches, but I hoped AEW would take a more old-school approach. That said, the match may still be very entertaining. Ospreay will defend the AEW World Championship against Kazuchika Okada on Tuesday’s AEW Grand Slam France edition of Dynamite. Samoa Joe vs. Jack Perry in the first qualifying match is also set for Tuesday.
AEW pay-per-views cost $49.99 (or $39.99 via HBO Max). The Tailgate Brawl pre-show will be simulcast on TNT and HBO Max at 6CT/7ET. The main card is scheduled to start at 7CT/8ET. Jake Barnett and I will team up for a same-night audio review for Dot Net Members (including our Patreon patrons).
