Mike Kanellis (Mike Bennett) announced via social media that he requested to be released from his WWE contract on Monday. “I am only 34 years old and feel I have way too much left in the tank,” Kanellis wrote after thanking his colleagues. “Working one day a week is just not going to cut it for me. I came to WWE to work and that opportunity does not exist right now.

“I re-signed with the company back in June because I thought it was what was best for my family, and maybe from a financial standpoint it was. But I quickly realized that bringing my work frustrations and misery home with me is not good for my family and I no longer want my daughter to constantly see me come home defeated, sad, and angry. It’s not fair to her or my wife.” Read the full statement below.

Powell’s POV: There’s no word yet as to whether WWE will honor Mike’s request. Shawn Spears went public with his release request and it ended up being granted. Luke Harper followed suit, but he was not granted a release. Maria Kanellis has yet to comment on the matter as of this update.

  1. You can’t blame the guy, such a talented wrestler and stuck with this awful storyline, let the guy got to aew or even just to Japan so he can show what he is capable of.

    • Can’t blame him in the least. He’s a talented worker and talker. If anything they owe Bennett his release after they (stupidly) scripted Maria to emasculate him on National TV. They’ve done wrong by this guy since day 1.
