Anthem makes AXS TV staff cuts, Leonard Asper comments

Anthem followed up the announcement of their purchase of a majority stake in AXS TV by laying off over 40 of the network’s staff members. “We were very clear with the staff,” Asper said. “We spoke to the staff yesterday. We did it all at once.” The story also notes that the actual number of AXS employees who were laid off could be as high as 80 if contract employees and freelancers are included. Powell’s POV: Andrew Simon and Adam Swift are among the notable names who are no longer with the company. Swift is an attorney who actually helped broker the deal that resulted in Anthem taking over the company. Both were key players in terms of bringing New Japan Pro Wrestling and GLOW to the network.
