Former pro wrestler John Nord was sentenced to five years probation following his seventh arrest for driving under the influence of drugs. The story notes that prosecutor pushed for Nord to be sentenced for more than four years in prison, but the judge opted for a lighter sentence under the condition that Nord stays in restrictive housing and does not drive. “Life has handed you a lot of special things,” the judge told Nord, who has been diagnosed with ALS. “On the other hand, it’s taken away a lot of what makes you you.” Read more at StarTribune.com.

Powell’s POV: It’s a sad story in that Nord has been using painkillers due to damage to his body and brain. Nord’s defense attorney stated that Nord is in treatment and will spend the remainder of his days in an assisted living facility. Nord wrestled as Nord the Barbarian in the AWA and elsewhere, and had a run as The Berzerker and The Viking in WWE.
