Dean Ambrose (Jonathan Good) rejected a WWE contract and is set to become a free agent at the end of April. Wade Keller of PWTorch.com reports that Ambrose broke the news to WWE officials this weekend and had a meeting with Vince McMahon. Keller added that Ambrose is not seeking more money and is not interested in further negotiations.

Powell’s POV: So much for my suspicion that Ambrose could be a potential WrestleMania opponent for Triple H if Batista isn’t an option. This is a surprising move in part because Ambrose’s wife Renee Young works as a color commentator for the company. It would be a significant loss for WWE. Ambrose’s heel run has been rocky thus far, but WWE has made a lot of money with him as a babyface and as a member of The Shield faction. It’s worth noting that Keller’s report quotes a source who stated that Ambrose is not a fan of “hokey” material. Ambrose is also said to be down on WWE’s use of scripted promos. Of course, the obvious question is whether Ambrose lands with All Elite Wrestling once his deal expires. It would be a big get for the startup promotion, though it’s unclear what Ambrose’s next move will be.

  1. Good for him. A lot of us fans are sick of hokey material too. Time for the company to re-evaluate their whole product. Fox viewers aren’t going to be as invested if the product is the same as it is now when they start airing on fox.

  2. Hope Renee leaves with him as she is awful on commentary, so wooden and monotone with her annoying constant “Ohs!!!”

    • Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but I love Renee’s commentary. I think she does tremendous work.

Over on Smackdown, it’s Byron Saxton’s commentary that I can’t stand. Even though Smackdown’s often the better show, it’s tough to listen to him call it.

    • Renee is excellent as an interviewer. She’s not bad as an announcer either, but WWE seems determined to misuse nearly everyone.

    • man I agree she is so damn annoying with her constant “ohhhh” or her “oh my god” at everything

  3. That’d be a tough loss for the WWE. Ambrose is so underrated, and has never gotten the push he deserves. I applaud him for being about the product though, and not willing to sell out for the money. He’s always been one of my favorites, and still will be, wherever he goes.
