Gene Okerlund has died at age 76, according to WWE.com. The cause of death was not revealed.

Powell’s POV: Okerlund had two kidney transplants in the past, but it’s unclear whether his death is kidney related as of this update. I grew up on Okerlund conducting interviews in the AWA before he joined the WWF and later WCW. He was tremendous as a pro wrestling interviewer and had terrific chemistry with Bobby Heenan, Hulk Hogan, and many others. My condolences to his family and friends.

  1. Absolutely as good as it gets when he was in his prime.
