NXT’s Johnny Gargano spoke with Brian Fritz of Sporting News about his lengthy feud with Tommaso Ciampa. “It’s something that I think looking back it’s going to be probably the thing I’m most synonymous with and that’s amazing to me,” Gargano said. “I’ve been extraordinarily lucky and I don’t know why the story caught as much fire as it did. I don’t know why people resonated with it so much. I think, honestly, because people felt so invested in me and Tommaso as a team, people felt like they were with us from the ground up and they were.

“They saw two kids who were just working on the indies trying to get a contract in NXT. When we walked into Barclays Center, that’s what they saw and they were along for the ride. They saw us from nothing grow to NXT Tag Team Champions. They saw us grow into NXT superstars, from two indie kids to NXT superstars. Then in the blink of an eye, that was over. I think it’s really captured fans’ imaginations and I hope at the end of the day and everything is said and done, it can be my masterpiece. And if it’s 10 years from now, that’s the thing I’m most known for, I’m pretty proud of that.”

Gargano was also asked whether he feels added pressure to deliver on Takeover events. “Oh yeah,” he replied. “So, every TakeOver I actually wear a shirt that says ‘no pressure, no diamonds.’ I make sure to pack that every single TakeOver. I wear it every single TakeOver, the day of the show as kind of reminder to myself that no matter what I’m feeling — no matter if I’m excited, if I’m nervous, if I’m, you know all the pressure in the world that’s on me to perform — it’s a good thing because good stuff will come of it. Good stuff has always come from it and I do put an immense amount of pressure on myself because a standard has been set, not just by me but by a lot of people in that locker room that we go out there and we give our all. We pour our hearts out in that ring and we steal the show. So, there is pressure, an immense amount of pressure, but it’s all worth it.” Read the full interview at SportingNews.com.

Powell’s POV: The bar is very high for Takeover events and yet they always seem to deliver and one can only assume that will be the case with Saturday’s WarGames II event. Gargano also spoke about seeing his childhood idol Shawn Michaels back in the ring again and his hope of having a match with him, whether he’s surprised NXT fans have been quick to turn on him, and the WWE SuperCard game.
